Last week, we got slammed by an insanely powerful storm in New Orleans. We had just pulled out of our campsite at 7 AM when the wind, lightning, and torrential rain appeared out of nowhere. We're safe now, but this was definitely a learning experience to ALWAYS check the radar when you're in a storm-prone area like Lousiana! Even though we had checked the weather the night before, it can change on a dime. And when you're living on the road in an RV or a van, the weather is critical.
This is literally a hurricane.
That's what's going on right now.
How did we not know this was...
We're supposed to drive in this. We literally have a trailer behind us.
I have not seen the wind blow this hard.
And there is so much lightning.
The car is getting blown right now.
And we're sitting underneath the gas station.
What time is it? It is 7.13.
We were gonna leave at like 6.30.
This just rolled in.
It's been thundering and lightning and raining since last night.
But not like this.
We were gonna leave at like 6.30 and we were being lazy.
I really wish we did.
This just started happening like 10 minutes ago.
It's gonna flood.
I feel like we should just leave.
As soon as we can.
Yeah, I want to get gas.
That way we can get some...
No, I know. We can get some miles out of here.
We just need to go really slowly.
I'm gonna look at the radar and see where this is heading.
Because I don't want to be driving with it, you know what I mean?
It's going west to east.
Okay, good.
We're heading west.
We'd be driving towards the end of it.
That's what's going on right now.
How did we not know this was...
It's passing through so it's gonna be gone by 8 o'clock.
Part of me just feels like we should wait it out.
I need to get gas right now.
Are you going inside the gas station?
Yeah, because there's an error code on there right now.
I'm not gonna sit out there and fiddle with it.
Right.
I'll come in.
No, you're fine.
Can we get coffee like not in the middle of a f***ing storm?
I know!
Sorry, I'm addicted.
Alright, BRB.
Oh my god, there's so much lightning.
It sounds like the end of the world outside.
It's insane.
Are you sure we should drive?
We'll be fine.
We're driving into it though.
We're gonna be in it regardless.
I don't know.
Why would we be driving? We should just sit.
If it gets dangerous,
which I don't think it really will...
Okay, I guess we're going.
Maybe that was the red.
I think so.
That was insane.
This is crazy.
Oh my god.
This is a little delayed, but we were just in the red.
Oh my god, wait.
So is that east where the red is right now?
This is east, this is west.
We're just in the red.
We're in the yellow now.
Yellow going to green going to blue.
We were literally in the heart of it.
630, 640, 650,
7, 710,
720 right now.
Which is just now passing over.
Umbrella in the street right there.
The bridges are all closed too.
Holy f...
That was so close.
Here in New Orleans,
they have
these police cameras
on all the poles.
There's crime...
That was right there.
There's a lot of crime here
and the microphones listen for gunshots.
When that happens,
you'll see the light on the pole
flash red and blue
to notify that it's recording.
There's all over the place,
all of them are going off at the same time
because all the lightning strikes are just going off.
So what the camera does,
it listens to exactly where it is
and it'll shift the camera over to where it's looking.
So these cameras are probably going
all over the place.
It wants me to go straight,
but if you look straight,
the bridge is closed.
I guess I'll go over this bridge here.
It'll reroute you.
Hi.
We're in the clear everyone.
We just stopped at a racetrack to get coffee.
It's been an hour and a half
probably since we left.
I'm very happy. We're all good.
It was literally such a crazy storm.
There's another storm going through Austin right now,
but I think we're okay for the rest of the day.
So I just got some snacks
from the trailer.
It's very nice. It saved us a lot of money.
I can get an apple and my energy balls
from the trailer instead of having to spend money.
So we're heading to Houston
to another Harvest Host right now
at a winery and we're going to hang out there
for a couple days. So I'm very excited.
Client call in
six minutes and we're in a good area
for cell service.
It was like four bars, four or five bars
right near a cell tower.
And we're only like ten minutes from where we're
camping tonight, but
by the time we get there and high five
to set up and get everything ready and connected to internet
I wouldn't have been on in time.
Yeah, I'm just on the side of the road
at a gas station doing
my client call for the next hour.
After this, we will head
to the winery where we're staying
tonight. We should be arriving
in nine minutes.
Hi, um, I
am staying here for, uh, through
Harvest Host. I was just wondering
where I should park.
Okay, thank you.
Okay, bye.
Okay, they're coming to get us.
Okay. Okay.
Following him.
The water's right there.
Got my boots on.
It is extremely muddy.
Alright, it's extremely slanted
because the ground is very wet
and we're kind
of sinking. Dylan's just so strong.
He can lift the trailer up.
We're only
fifteen bucks. From what I can tell
at like some of the Harvest Hosts
you have the option
to pay an extra fee for
full hookups, so we decided to do it
tonight because we have a lot of work to do
and our computers die really quick, so it'll be nice to be hooked up
to electric. And then we have
dump here, so
yep.
So, we're at Crossbone Winery
and it's in kind of the middle of nowhere but it's great
but we only have one bar at our site
and we still have a bunch of work to do
so we came in here and asked, or Dylan
did, and we're allowed to use their WiFi
and have a glass of wine and I'm so excited.
Yay! Wine and work.
Very nice.
We are attempting to go to the dock
but it is about to
pour. Yeah, we can see it on the water.
It looks super fogged. That's called rain.
Oh god.
This is your idea, I'm not for this right now.
Okay, I literally picked this Harvest Host because
one, winery, and two
there's a beautiful dock on the water
because rain follows us everywhere.
Well, the good thing is when we
go to Arizona
and California, this
won't really be a thing we have to worry about
at all. We have not had the best luck with weather
but it's okay.
Um, so we're making a break for it
because the radar says that the rain's
not coming for another couple hours but I
beg to differ because there is rain
like sleep rain
on my face and it's
very windy so we're
going to quickly clean up, dump,
and get out of here.
These are the friends we made last night.
This is us.
We haven't met them yet but we're all
squatted up.
Yep.
I have a rock in my foot.
To Houston!
We're going to do a little taste test
of the Intimus Beaver Nuggets.
