Jessica Simpson on Her Return to Performing and Acting! (Exclusive)

This is your first time on the Idol stage, correct? How amazing was it to be there performing your single and with Josh? This was my first time performing in 15 years, so I felt like a contestant up there. I felt like I had to become an American Idol and have a resurgence of my career. So I put a lot of pressure on myself, but I did it, and I'm really proud of myself. Josh was just a doll, and we had so much fun together, even in rehearsals. I mean, we'll always stay in touch. He's just awesome, and I'm just really proud of both of us. The new music is just pure heart and soul for me. It was really like just digging my toes in the mud and feeling the grounds of where I needed to be and where my path was, and I just took it, and I felt it, and I just felt embraced by all of it, and it's genre-less, really. Everybody calls it all kinds of genres, so it's different to everyone. Everybody has a different favorite song, which I love. It was never single-driven. It's not like it was in the past, because I'm an independent artist now, which takes the pressure off, and I can just do what I love. I can just do what I love, and people are hearing exactly who I am and what I'm about. I have to ask you about All's Fair. We're so excited to see you in that trailer! It's our own boutique. Women representing women. We're not the only ones to suffer abuse. Plenty of women inflict it, don't they? Filming All's Fair was incredible. I had a blast. I did eight hours of prosthetics, so it was very intense, but props to the prosthetics team. I love you guys so much. They said I had the most patience of anyone they've ever worked with, so that's a good compliment. But yeah, I really embody someone that I am not, so I was definitely acting. Kim, we just live down the street from each other. Our kids are best friends, so to be on set, it just felt kind of natural. It was fun to work together. We've never worked together, so she did all the lawyer talk, I did all the whining.
