Ludwig van Beethoven wrote his ten violin sonatas between 1797 and 1812. Sonatas 1 to 9 were written between 1797 and 1803, after which almost ten years passed before he composed Opus 96. The composer premiered all of his early piano works himself, which may explain why he referred to them as “Sonatas for Pianoforte and Violin.”

Following in the footsteps of W. A. Mozart, who elevated the violin's role from mere accompaniment, Beethoven treated both instrumental parts equally in his sonatas, despite them being commonly known as "violin sonatas".

The video was captured in Lötschental, Switzerland by Christian Schlegel and was edited by Wenjing Ma.
