Rare early English verge antique pocket watch with calendar at number 12 and REPOUSSE case , sterling silver pair case open face, key winding , key set swinging out movement with fusee and chain . In a fabulous condition.
This rare early verge features the original dial which is signed at the center . Steel beetle and poker hands mark the dial along with Champleve enameled black Roman hour chapters , a minute track and large 5 - minute numerals . A date window appears in yellow color at upper most area of the dial . The Champleve dial is signed ( E.VANDER) . ( The Champleve dial was made before the porcelain was invented and it was about silver filled with wax ) . The movement is magnificent with a broad footed large pierced balance cock . A diamond end stone tops the balance assembly and the movement is signed ( E.VANDER STEEGE ) .
The silver case inside is smooth finished. The outer case is distinctive with a classical mythological scene of a woman and a swan appearing in the center and four noble figures appearing in the corner areas. The REPOUSSE case also has very finely detailed leaf, flower and scroll motifs. Diameter: 58 mm, depth: 22 mm, which means this is a very old pocket watch because it is very deep and thick.
