Hi everybody, welcome back to our channel. My name is Naz and I'm Alba and in this video
we are going to share a full travel guide to Sorrento, Italy. We are going to go over when
to visit, how to get there, what are the things to do and how much it will cost you. And if you
stay until the end of the video, which I recommend you to, we will share with you some things to avoid
doing when you're planning your trip to Amalfi, Sorrento, this whole peninsula.
We've been to Italy countless of times and when we visited Sorrento, we made a series of videos
that you guys seemed to love. So it's only fair that we tell you everything that you need to know
to visit Sorrento. But why should you even consider visiting Sorrento? I said Sorrento
with a British accent. Sorrento. Well, first of all, it's a gorgeous town that will allow you to
experience Italy at its finest. And secondly, its strategic location. From Sorrento, you can
see Mount Vesuvius and it's so close to Napoli that you can almost see it too. At the same time,
it is only a short 45-minute drive to see the Amalfi town and coast. A lot of people choose
to stay in Sorrento when they visit Amalfi and this is what we recommend because the prices are
much cheaper, it's really easy to get to and it's very close to all the towns in Amalfi coast and
even Capri for you to visit. But we'll get into it throughout the video. So if you're planning to
visit Sorrento or the Amalfi coast, when should you go? You can visit Sorrento at any point of
the year. However, the most common tourist season is between April and September. So you can get
a guarantee that everything will be open from restaurants to transportation methods and so on.
If you go in, for example, November, October, December, even January, it's not a guarantee
that all the buses will be running, all the trains will be running, all the restaurants will be open.
Yeah and also you might get rain so it's better to go in the spring and summer for you to enjoy
the lovely weather, the beaches, the views. However, I would highly avoid the peak summer months,
especially July and August because Sorrento gets packed with tourists. You will have the locals who
visit Sorrento to stay in the town and the Amalfi coast and then you will have the tourists as well
so it gets really really busy. The perfect times to go would be April, May, June and maybe September.
Now, of course, many of you watching will be going in July and August. That's the time where you can
take holidays off. It'll be amazing, don't get me wrong. Just prepare to face the crowds. Just
wake up a little bit earlier to see the views unobstructed. I think even June can get quite
busy as well. So May and September you don't get the best weather but the weather is good enough
and there's not as many people as in summer. Now, how do you actually get there? Well, the most
recommended approach is to fly to Napoli or Naples. From this city you will be able to take a train
that takes you from Naples to Sorrento. It takes roughly 45 minutes to an hour and it costs as
little as five euros. There's also a more expensive train option which is faster if I'm not mistaken
and it's a little bit pricier but that is not the only option. There's also a ferry that you can
take from Naples to Sorrento port and we haven't taken it personally but I'm sure the views and the
journey is awesome. It only takes 45 minutes and it costs a little bit more. If I'm not mistaken
it's roughly 15 euros per trip per person. So how long should you plan your trip for and what are
the things to do? If you're planning to visit Sorrento you can go as little as a weekend or you
can go as long as a full week. The first thing that we recommend people to do if you are flying
into Naples is to spend at least one day in Naples. I would say at least a day. Yeah. It's very
important to remember that the original pizza came from Naples and you can find some amazing
restaurants with some fantastic pizza and pasta as well. So please indulge yourself, spend the day
there, explore the cathedrals. It's a very very charming city. It has so much culture to explore. If you
really want to explore Naples in detail I would suggest two days but if you're just in passing
want to see the city one day should be enough. We did a vlog of our time in Naples so we'll leave it
linked in the description. Make sure to check it out. You can then account for an extra day to
explore Sorrento. It is a beautiful little charming town with amazing views to the sea. You can see
Napoli in the background. You can see Mount Vesuvius. There's amazing these like crystal clear
blue waters and the fantastic thing about Sorrento is that you feel so immersed into the Italian
culture. These narrow streets, the limoncello stands, even the pasta a la Sorrentina. Something that you
cannot miss when you're there. I absolutely loved the town so account for one day. It's a small place
so you don't need more than just one day and if you're going in summer you'll be able to dip into
the sea, go in the water so it'll be an amazing experience. And of course in your itinerary
it cannot miss to visit the Amalfi coast. You have only 40 minute drive from Sorrento to the
Amalfi coast where you can visit Amalfi, Positano, Praiano and Ravello, the four famous Amalfi towns.
The most beautiful way of doing this is by taking a bus from Sorrento that takes you along the coast,
stops in Positano and keeps going all the way to Amalfi and maybe even more depends on the bus
but the amazing thing about this is that you will be driving alongside the coast so you will be
experiencing while on the bus the amazing Amalfi coast views. I don't know if it's the best way,
the most beautiful way to see it but it's definitely one of the most economical ways.
If I'm not mistaken it can cost like 15 euros to get a full day bus pass and that means
you can get the bus in Sorrento and then stop over in the towns and return so it's very useful
but you also have the option if you are there in the summer to go by ferry from Sorrento to
the Amalfi town and that is must be such a beautiful ride as well. Of course there's a
car renting option we'll get to that at the end because maybe there's some things that you should
know about that. We did a vlog when we visited Amalfi and Positano so make sure to check that
out but in the same day you can also squeeze in Praiano and Ravello if you want to see all four
towns in one day it's definitely doable. The only warning I would give is I get really carsick
and the roads are very wavy very small so I couldn't go on any further. Take some motion
sickness tablets you know or take the boat I don't know if you might get dizzy there as well
but yeah just be prepared. So what else should you do? We recommend you to take an extra day
to visit the glorious city of Pompeii. Well it's no longer a city but it is a site where you can see
what the city looked like two thousand years ago before it was immersed into ashes from the
explosion of the well I'm spoiling the story for you but the whole point is that we recommend you
to visit there as well. We made a beautiful vlog about it where we explained the history of Pompeii
roughly and we showed you what that looked like the link is in the description but count for a day
because from Sorrento you can take a train that only takes about 20-30 minutes to get you all the
way to Pompeii. Yeah it's in between Sorrento and Naples so you can do either way but you can enjoy
your stay in Sorrento go visit Pompeii for the day and then come back because yeah you should
account for the whole day at least it will be half a day because the site is so big so big
but yeah we'll leave also the video that we made about that in the description because there's so
much you need to know you might want to get a tour for that if you want to learn about the history
but I don't think you should visit this is a must do if you are in the area of Sorrento
and then the last thing one more day if you have the availability explore Capri you can take a ferry
from Sorrento all the way to this little island we haven't done it ourselves because we didn't
have time but if you do have that extra day it must be a beautiful trip a note of warning though
I've heard it's very expensive I think a coffee might cost you like 10 euros do account for like
100 euros to have lunch it's not going to be a cheap experience but yeah if you if you can afford
it and and you have the time why not so now we've given you all of the activities to recap you can
spend one day in Napoli one day in Sorrento one day in the Amalfi Coast one day in Pompeii and one
day in Capri now you can mix and match that as you want you can go as little as one weekend to
see Sorrento or Amalfi or you can do a full week to see all of these places that we mentioned and
I think it's important to account for travel times as well right the days that you travel
maybe you don't want to explore that much so maybe seven days to see the whole package but
of course as Alba said you can explore this beautiful area in less than three days yeah
how much will it cost to visit the Amalfi Coast well the first thing you'll need to take into
consideration is accommodation that's going to be your biggest expense no matter what
we went to Sorrento and we stayed there for 45 euros a night that's so so cheap for this area
but we were there in March so that was slightly before the big season started you should account
if you decide to stay in Positano in Amalfi in Ravello even the prices are much higher why
because you're on that side of the coast that's one and second there's not that many places where
you can stay so supply is low demand is very high especially in high season so if you are going to
be staying in Sorrento in high season I think 100 euros per night will get you a nice place
if you want to go somewhere else in the popular places account at least double so 200 euros per
night at least yeah at least but what about food so if you eat moderately you know for two people
I would say you can spend about 100 euros per day the food in Italy is not necessarily very expensive
if you're eating in normal places in Sorrento for example but if you then again go to the Amalfi
Coast and you go there for the day and you want to have lunch do account 100 euros for the meal
alone for two people because the prices are just next level think about it like this when you're
inside of the town whether it's Sorrento or Amalfi or even Positano when you're inside
you'll find multiple restaurants which have amazing food and it's somewhat affordable maybe
25 euros per person but if you go to any of the places that has views it's sitting right in front
of the cliff to see the the sea count double the price it's just going to be more expensive you're
paying a premium for the views you'll need to also account for the cost of transport we mentioned
you have to move you know from Naples to Sorrento get the bus to Amalfi Coast or the ferry
it's not very expensive at all if you are going with public transport so I would account just
about 100 euros for two people for the whole trip yeah that's pretty that's pretty much it
really depends are you renting a car are you riding the bus are you taking the ferry so I mean
we've given you some of the prices and you can make your own mix and match based on yeah on how
much you want to spend lastly you'll need to also account for some tourism fees you if you visit
Pompeii that will cost you 22 euros per person so that's almost 50 euros and then you want to add
another buffer of another 50 if you want to visit other sites if you want to do other activities so
I think 100 euros for two people should be enough absolutely as we're getting close to the end of
the video let us tell you a couple of things that you should know and maybe that you should avoid
doing on your visit to Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast the first thing and I think that's already
mentioned this is avoid renting a car especially if you're going in the summer months trust us you
do not want to get stuck in traffic there's all these videos on social media of the the road
that goes to Positano and Amalfi like completely collapsed you see you see these influencers like
taking photos in the road in in Amalfi but like you won't be able to do that it's the roads are
so narrow that they fit one car in each direction and there's barely any spots where you can stop
and take pictures aka you cannot stop basically and there's buses trying to pass that almost take
both of the rails yeah it's a whole adventure and you will have a tough time with parking as well
because the town just gets so busy in the summer and didn't we see that like the parking was like
15 or 25 euros for like an hour it was crazy not an hour for longer in the day but it's very
expensive you will spend more money in the parking alone yeah and the stress is not even imaginable
than in the whole transportation for the whole day yeah it's not worth it honestly like we are
saying there's so many transport there's you have the ferry you have the bus there's so many options
so i don't think it's worth the stress second thing and it's something that we mentioned before
if you go to Capri if you do choose to go to Capri avoid eating there lovely for the views maybe a
cocktail maybe a coffee yeah it'll be expensive as expected but if you eat there it's going to
cost you your liver it's going to cost you a lot of money yeah i think equally if you do want to
obviously staying there overnight the number of hotels is very small and they are very expensive
so just visit for the day or visit for the morning i don't think you need to you know
spend the whole day there um and then leave like yeah take some photos and leave and point number
three the last point that we will leave you with always make sure to have some cash with you it is
that most places will accept card payments nowadays however there are these little small
cafes or or small restaurants in a corner of a side street and you don't want to miss out on
the opportunity to experience real culture because you don't have cash yeah i think when we bought
our bus tickets in Sorrento they asked us for cash um because it was bought in like a local
like store a small store and we bought the tickets and they were like yeah cash only
so always good to have cash on you i mean some of the things that we mentioned are not even that
expensive so it's it's it's yeah just have cash on you always that is going to be it for this
video we've made so many other videos about Sorrento the Amalfi Coast and Italy in general
