Embark on a day trip from Athens to Delphi, exploring ancient ruins and learning all about its historical significance.
Delphi is one of Greece's most famous archaeological sites.
These remarkably preserved ruins are scattered on the slope of Mount Parnassus,
which is just a three-hour drive from Athens.
Head inside the UNESCO World Heritage Site for your walking tour
and learn all about the ancient Greek civilization in Delphi from your guide.
It's one of the most interesting sites because it is considered as
the area where it used to be the center of the known world in the antiquity.
It's one of the oldest temples that we have in the area of Greece.
Wow, I cannot believe what good shape these buildings are in.
For being 2,500 years old, that's amazing.
The city became a sanctuary to the god Apollo and home to the famous Oracle of Delphi,
a trusted oracle from which the spirit of Apollo
gave advice on everything from domestic matters to war.
Inside the temple of Apollo, it was considered the place where god Apollo was worshipped.
And inside the temple, it was, of course, the tripods, the Delphic tripods,
where Pythia was sitting at the oracles and giving the Delphic oracle
the prophecies of the people arriving here at the sanctuary.
This is a very important part of Greek mythology
because they believe this is where heaven and earth met.
It's kind of spectacular.
We have the foundation of the building that we call the treasuries.
The Athenians, after they won at the Battle of Marathon
and they stopped the invasion of the Persians,
they placed this temple-like building at the sanctuary in order to honor god Apollo.
All right, we checked out the ruins.
Now, let's go into the museum to see some artifacts.
The whole tour was very quick.
Everyone always goes to Athens and does, you know, all of the things there,
but there's so much more further out.
I love looking at the rocks and just getting up there into the views.
Delphi is the perfect place to really immerse yourself in Greek mythology.
Not only is the site beautiful, but you can really let your imagination transport you.
