Guided practice of movements in the traditional Yang family 103 long form. Video with cues for movements from section 1, facing 2 directions so students can see the arm movements. These videos are not meant to replace in person or online classes; they are meant to serve as a guide for student's home practice.
Welcome back. I'm glad you decided to join us for practice today.
So today we're going to focus on a series of brush knee and twist step or brush knee and strike.
It's the same movement, it just sometimes has two different names.
And in between these brush knees, we're going to play hand strums the loop.
So I'm going to practice in the normal direction.
So we're all moving the same way if you are following along on your computer
and then I'll turn and face the other direction.
So moving back so we have enough space to go across our room.
We're going to step out, make sure we have a natural bow stance,
brush knee, left leg forward, right palm striking, left hand ends up kind of in our knee area.
Shift your weight forward, reaching out, pull back and we change to empty stance on the heel,
pressing down, brush knee, two circles, step wide for a bow stance, open up and strike.
Shift back, rotate the left arm up, palm up, two circles, arms at the back when we step,
open and then strike.
The other side, brush knee, turn and rotate, two circles, open up and strike.
Everything arrives together.
Reach forward, step closer in, lift the heel so we can change to empty stance on the heel.
One more brush knee.
We turn, open and strike.
Okay, so as you can see we have four brush knees on one side and one on the other side.
So not to confuse you but to make it clear with the arm movements,
I'm going to turn the other direction and practice one more time.
So we're in, brush knee, left leg forward, right palm striking,
hands on the loop, shift forward, step in, come back, one up, one down, two circles,
step, open, direct strike from the shoulder.
Other side, shift back, turn, two circles, step, open and strike.
One more before we do a different movement.
Open and strike, hands on the loop, reach forward, pull back and play in the loop.
Last brush knee, rotate, open and strike.
Okay, hopefully you're able to see all the arm movements and again,
these practices are not meant to take the place of a class,
but what they are here for is for you to practice on your own at home.
So I hope that's helping you achieve this.
So today we'll close our practice there and we'll work through the end of the form for the next one.
Thank you everyone.
