SpaceX reveals Inside Raptor 4 Upgrades, Shocked NASA Scientists!!!
When mentioning the Raptor Engine, we immediately think of a story of innovation and engineering mastery.
This sounds like upgrading from a pickup truck to a freight train.
If Raptor 1 and 2 were like a tough pickup truck—strong, but just the start; Raptor 3 is a heavy-duty semi-truck, Raptor 4 will be a full freight train pulling tons of weight.
With 35 Raptor 4 engines working together, the Starship booster will produce more power than any rocket in history.
So, what makes Raptor 4 so powerful?
What is the method behind the madness?
What’s driving the development of Raptor 4?
Find out everything in today's Techmap episode!

Raptor 1 was truly a testbed, marking the first steps in using Methalox fuel. So, why methalox? Most rockets use kerosene, a bit like diesel. It works, but it’s dirty. Raptor uses methane, like switching to a clean-burning fuel that can be made from the air and ground on Mars. It’s like using a camping stove that refuels from nature itself instead of hauling gas cans. Raptor 1 was also crucial for understanding the full-flow staged combustion cycle, which optimizes fuel and oxidizer combustion by using two separate preburners to drive the fuel and oxidizer turbines.

The introduction of this cycle significantly increased the engine's efficiency and thrust-to-weight ratio compared to traditional rocket engines. The initial development phase also facilitated SpaceX's handling of challenges related to combustion stability and material durability under high-pressure and high-temperature conditions. These issues necessitated multiple design iterations and extensive testing.
