Once upon a time, in a cosy burrow nestled beneath the roots of an old oak tree, lived
a little country mouse. His days were quiet and calm, filled with fresh air, wildflowers
and simple meals of berries and grains. One sunny morning he received a surprise visitor.
His cousin the town mouse, all dressed up in a tiny velvet coat and shiny shoes.
Cousin, said the town mouse brushing dust from his sleeves, how quaint it is here. But
tell me, how can you live with so little? The country mouse smiled. It's peaceful. I
have all I need. But please stay and share my dinner.
They sat under a leafy branch, nibbling on seeds and sipping cool water from a leaf.
But the town mouse wrinkled his nose. This food is too plain. Come with me to the city.
I'll show you how grand life can be. So the next day, the two mice scurried along
paths and fields, all the way to the bustling town. The town mouse led his cousin into a
grand house, filled with glowing lights and towering shelves. There in the dining room
was a feast. Cakes, cheese, crackers and crumbs of every kind. The country mouse's eyes sparkled.
Oh my, this is amazing. They tiptoed onto the table and nibbled at the treats. But suddenly,
thump. A door slammed. Clatter. Dishes rattled. Then came heavy footsteps and a loud,
mow. Quick, hide, whispered the town mouse as they darted beneath the table. A curious
cat prowled the room, sniffing and swiping its tail. The country mouse trembled. Is it
always like this here? The town mouse sighed. Sometimes.
That night, when the house was quiet again, the country mouse whispered. Thank you for
the adventure, cousin. But I think I'll go back home. I'd rather have simple food and
a quiet heart than rich meals and worry. The town mouse nodded, understanding. Come visit
again. Just bring your calm with you. And so the country mouse returned to his gentle life
under the oak tree, where the wind rustled softly and the stars twinkled through the
leaves. And that night, he fell asleep with a full belly, a peaceful mind and dreams of
wildflowers. The end.
