The most eagerly anticipated films of the year, Avengers Assemble, reaches our screens on Thursday.
Yep, goes nationwide there and I caught up with one of its stars, the gorgeous Scarlett Johansson.
We're not a team, we're a time bomb.
You're back as the Black Widow. Yes. And you're very bendy and very fierce in this.
Yes, I am. I've been very bendy and fierce. I'll take it.
You'll take it? Sure, sounds good.
It looked like it was probably a lot of hard work to get to be that way,
because what we see you doing, you actually do, am I right?
Yes, I was very fortunate to be able to work with Heidi Moneymaker, that's her real name.
She's my stunt double in Iron Man 2 and she's an incredible, incredible athlete.
And the idea is that she and I become one and we can start and finish each other's moves and
everything in between and it's a lot of training and dedication and it hurts and it hurts and it
hurts and then finally it doesn't hurt and you're getting it right and it's a great moment.
You know, you feel like you accomplished something big.
Now, that suit is the sort of suit that holds terror for any normal woman.
You're obviously Scarlett Johansson, so you probably don't have the same body
the rest of us, but was there a bit of you that thought, oh my god, that's tight?
First of all, every woman has body worries. I mean, I'm not exempt from that.
But you know, part of the byproduct of spending that much time in the gym is that you can fit
into a catsuit. And we had Mark Ruffalo on the show and he said,
ask Scarlett what she wore underneath the suit.
He only asked me that because he knows it's my most loathed question.
I'm wearing an entire outfit under there.
Yes.
Ball dress.
A skirt. I'm wearing a whole pantsuit and heels.
You've been in all of our lives since you were 12, really, since you were a young girl.
And there's a great quote which says that your home life was,
had little money but loads of films.
Was it growing up that made you think at such a young age, I want to be a film star?
I never wanted to be a film star. I wanted to be on Broadway when I was growing up.
So that's where my dreams were, you know, based.
And then as I got older and I started auditioning for film and TV and
all different kinds of stuff and theatre, I ended up kind of finding a career in film.
And I just made one film and then I make another and make another.
I just got very fortunate.
I guess one of the things about you being so young on screen is that being in a life
that we've always been very interested in you for a big chunk of your life, really.
And with that comes press interest.
And I know you're very private.
So I wonder how you've been able to manage that inside your head,
particularly having had such a tough time personally recently.
I think first and foremost, when you have a difficult time, it's actually,
you have to deal with it, with the personal side of it before you deal with the,
you know, kind of whatever media sort of scrutiny will be placed on you.
And you manage it.
I don't think you ever get used to it, but it's an adjustment.
And do you feel happy?
I feel very fortunate.
And I have a lot of wonderful people around me and a lot of love in my life.
And so, you know, I think I've always maintained a relatively positive attitude.
You know, and I attribute that probably to my family, really,
because they always have inspired great happiness in me.
You released two albums.
Are we going to see you sing some more?
I would love to.
Yes, I would love to.
Releasing an album is like a little baby,
and you just have to nourish it and you need time for it.
I was thinking, because if you want it to be on Broadway,
I thought, oh, maybe there's a musical, something coming next,
something could be worked together.
Oh, gosh, I don't know.
I watch Broadway musicals, and those are my real life superheroes, actually,
are musical, you know, theater actors.
They're like triple threats and unbelievable.
And I think I could never do that eight times a week for,
you know, whatever four-month run.
I just could never have that kind of stamina.
I don't have that kind of strength.
