As the negotiator, I don't like to negotiate in public, but I will say we're talking about a matter of weeks and not months to have some initial deals announced.
However, Finance Minister Bessent made it clear that before any real negotiations can be initiated, China must take the first step to step down.
Beijing has for the time being 125% in tariffs on American goods as collateral for the 145% tariffs on Chinese goods from the US.
Trade between the US and China has in practice fallen into a kind of embargo as a result of this.
Despite this, Bessent is convinced that China wants to reach an agreement.
President Trump recently stressed his position that if an agreement is to be reached with China, it must be a just agreement.
