Crane Cools Its Wings Beginner Tutorial
This lessons follows the Parting the Wild Horse's Mane. This is the second movement in the Yang 24 Form after the Opening Posture. Crane Cools It's Wings is a short movement but will help teach you proper weight transferring skills and holding a single leg balanced position. This will strengthen your balancing muscles. This lesson is part of The Tai Chi Code series on The Yang Style 24 Form.
The Tai Chi Code teaches how to use your waist and hips in a systematic fashion to perform Tai Chi movements in a predictable, reproducible, and mindful fashion. The Tai Chi Code was created by Dr. Todd Martin
Hi, and welcome back to the Tai Chi Code.
If you're new to the channel, I'm Dr. Todd Martin.
This is lesson number one of Crane Pulls Its Wings, where we're going to show the transition
between Parting the Wild Horse's Mane in the Yang Style 24 form and Crane Pulls Its Wings.
If you haven't already watched the Parting the Wild Horse's Mane videos, those will be
linked above.
We begin with the half step up with a slight rotation of the palm on the left hand.
We shift the weight back to the right leg, and then only after we've shifted back do
we then now shift fully into Empty Stance, where the foot of the left leg comes up off
the ground completely.
My left palm should be down, and my right palm should be down.
And then I move into the final movement with a splitting action, and that's the end of
Crane Pulls Its Wings, Parting the Wild Horse's Mane.
So, a couple points that we'll note.
The first movement is the half step up, and we want to move from our core.
That is where the energy is going to come from for the half step up, if we've done Parting
the Wild Horse's Mane correctly.
We want to keep vertical posture, don't lean forward to try and half step up.
We use rotation of the waist to bring the right foot up off the ground, peeling it off
the ground, and that ends with this position here.
Now we're going to shift our root back to the right leg, keeping the whole body facing
forward, so we're not turning back as we shift back.
We're keeping the body forward as we shift back the root, and then we cross the arms
here as we shift into Empty Stance.
And then now we're going to use, again, rotation of the waist to create the final movement.
