Herrenhaus | Schloss Bernstorf in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
The Bernstorf manor house (castle), built in the Neo-Renaissance style, is unique in both its appearance and use. Behind the manor house lies a small park containing an atonement stone dating from 1359.
Bernstorf is located near Grevesmühlen. The village was first mentioned in 1237 in a document by Bishop Ludolf of Ratzeburg as Bernardestorp. The name of the village dates back to the knightly Bernstorff family, who came to Mecklenburg in the early 12th century and owned the estate since 1302. Privy Councilor Georg Daniel drew up the plans for the manor house, which was built between 1879 and 1882.
In 2010, Dr. Wolfgang Röhr was able to acquire the dilapidated manor house. The manor house was renovated from 2012 to 2014, and a family-run organic hospice opened there in April.
