The 151st running of the Kentucky Derby
takes place tomorrow and local racing
fans are celebrating early. 22 News
reporter Kelly Thomas is live in studio
to tell us about the derby party that
Chapi's River Mills Center already held
for its members. Nick and Sierra, this
is River Mill's first year in running a
Kentucky Derby party for its members.
Members came out dressed in their best
Kentucky Derby attire, ready for a day
of fun. Each member got to enjoy a
variety of snacks and games like a horse
race, a ring toss, and Jenga. They also
got to watch highlights from previous
races and try to win a best Kentucky
Derby hat contest. The program
coordinator told us this was a chance
for members to come out and socialize
and visit their friends at the center.
We spoke to some members who are excited
to be part of this event today.
We are enjoying ourselves. It's nice to
not be sitting at home. It's nice to be
somewhere doing something different and
meeting new people and having a good
time. Members say they'd like to see
this event continue for years to come.
And you'll be able to watch the Kentucky
Derby tomorrow right here on 22 News.
Post time is 6:57 p.m. Working for you.
