We look back 26 years to April 25, 1999, when tens of thousands of people gathered in Beijing to peacefully value the right to freedom of religion.
It was the perpetrator of Falun Gong.
The spiritual meditation method has roots in traditional Chinese culture and is based on the principles of truth, compassion and tolerance.
So why did this group in Beijing value it more than 20 years ago?
At that time, the Chinese Communist Party had begun to tighten control over the group.
Fears that large organized movements could threaten the party's monopoly on power.
Only two months after the rebellion, the Chinese regime launched a nationwide campaign to perpetuate Falun Gong.
A campaign that continues to this day.
This year, hundreds of Falun Gong practitioners held activities in New York City to mark the anniversary of the peaceful rebellion.
Martha Flores Vazquez is the district leader of the Flushing New York city council.
Jackie Phillips is a well-known speaker, entrepreneur and TV personality. She said.
It's just shocking. And it's still shocking that this still goes on today.
The United States and Texas will continue to stand as a safe haven in the face of such atrocities as forced organ harvesting and religious persecution.
According to Chinese media, Falun Gong was much appreciated in China before 1999.
Among other things, for its positive effects on both physical and mental health.
Official figures show that almost 100 million people practiced Falun Gong in China in 1998.
Despite the Chinese regime's attempts to eradicate it, millions of people practice Falun Gong around the world today.
Every year, Falun Gong practitioners organize demonstrations in the United States, Israel, Canada, Japan, France, Sweden, Taiwan and many other countries.
To highlight the sacred method of protection and honor the memory of those who lost their lives because they refused to give up their faith.
And to urge the Chinese Communist Party to stop the brutal persecution in China.
