Once upon a time, a baby boy was born in Egypt. His name was Moses. Pharaoh the king had made a
bad rule. He said all boy babies must be thrown in the Nile River. Yikes! Moses' mommy loved him so
much. She wanted to keep him safe. So, she put him in a basket. She hid the basket in the tall
grass of the river. Moses' big sister Miriam watched over him. Can you imagine being brave
like Miriam? Then, Pharaoh's daughter came to the river. She found the basket and peeked inside.
There was little baby Moses. He was crying. Pharaoh's daughter felt sorry for him. She
decided to keep him safe and raise him as her own son. Moses grew up in Pharaoh's palace. It was a
big beautiful place. He had everything he could ever want. But Moses never forgot his real people,
the Israelites. They were not treated very nicely in Egypt. One day, Moses saw an Egyptian soldier
being mean to an Israelite. Moses got very upset. He ran away from Egypt into the desert. He didn't
want to live in Pharaoh's palace anymore. Moses was all alone in the desert. It was hot and dry.
He became a shepherd and took care of sheep. God was watching over Moses even when he felt scared
and lonely. One day, Moses saw a bush that was on fire. But the bush wasn't burning up. How strange!
Moses went closer to look. Then, he heard a voice. It was God speaking from the burning bush.
God told Moses to go back to Egypt. He wanted Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt.
God would be with Moses and help him. Moses was scared, but he said yes to God.
Section 4, Let My People Go. Moses went back to Egypt and talked to Pharaoh.
Let my people go, he told Pharaoh. Pharaoh was stubborn. He didn't want to let the Israelites
leave. So, God sent 10 plagues to Egypt. The plagues were scary. After each plague, Pharaoh
would say he would let the Israelites go. But then, he would change his mind. Finally, after the 10th
plague, Pharaoh let the Israelites go. They were free. Section 5, Moses on the Mountaintop. Moses
led the Israelites out of Egypt. God parted the Red Sea so they could cross on dry land. Can you
imagine that? They walked for many days in the desert. God took care of them. One day, God called
Moses up to the top of a mountain. He gave Moses 10 very important rules to live by. These rules
are called the Ten Commandments. The Ten Commandments teach us how to be good and kind.
Section 6, Following Moses' Example. Moses was a hero to the Israelites. He listened to God and
helped his people. He was brave, even when he felt scared. Moses shows us that God can do amazing
things through anyone, even a shepherd. What can we learn from Moses? We can be brave like Moses.
We can listen to God, just like he did. And we can always be kind and helpful to others,
just like Moses helped his people.
