It is a spectacular day at Fenway
and a superb matchup for the
matinee Sox ace Garrett Croce to
face Seattle's talented right
hander Brian Wu.
The series even at one one with
the homestand coming to an end
today.
Well the big lefty is hard to
please but he's going to be very
pleased if he duplicates the
start he had against Seattle
last season.
A career high 13 strikeouts
Fillmore has twice let off a
game on this road trip with a
home run out towards the monster
in left field and this bangs
halfway up to 10.
Fillmore was thinking about it
then retreats back to first base
first batter in game three of
the series.
And we see the monster in play
for the first time.
Here's Julio Rodriguez.
It's going to be a block and
that will send more down a
second.
He didn't have enough of a hole
for his foot to push off the
rubber so it slid over the top
and the payoff pitch.
He struck him out.
Well he came back from three and
to get him his first strikeout
today.
Yeah that was really nice
comeback.
You're down 3 0 and you come at
him there's that cutter we're
talking about right.
That's good execution bottom of
the zone one away.
And here's Cal Raleigh Roche
looking for his second punch out
he'll get it on the swing and
the miss.
That was a change up off the
plate.
Back to back strikeouts.
That's when you know you just
you're not catching up with the
fastball you're committing too
soon.
This thing is way off the dish
and he still goes after it.
Here comes pitch number nine to
a Rosarito and he walked him and
is a new career best twenty one
game on base three for a
Rosarito.
So they'll be two on with two
out.
You don't love the pitch count
but having said that that is a
veteran mentality for a
relatively young starter in
crochet.
He does not want to give into a
Rosarito.
He'd rather face Garber here.
Fly ball high out to center
field Campbell is nearing the
wall and it bangs off the green
Moore is in to score a Rosarito.
He rounds third base.
He scores standing Mitch Garber
leaves a dent and has put the
Mariners in front two to nothing
right away in the first inning.
I'll tell you what we talked
about up and down this line up
contributing especially loss on
to that Mitch Garber gets a
fastball here.
The Mariners have been
aggressive.
Anything inside the strike zone
it's been swing away to put
these two runs in context.
Crochet had given up just two
runs over his last four starts
combined and a rough start for
the lefty and he'll rattle that
one to short gripped by story.
But Crochet gives up two quick
ones to nothing.
Seattle nice way to start this
game before you even take the
mound here.
Fenway but for Brian Newman he
has been the most consistent
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher
going no less than six innings
at least every start.
Jaron Duran leads it off.
Justin Oh he gets the call.
Duran strikes out looking Wu a
sharp start three pitches his
first punch out three pitches
all fastballs at the top of the
zone.
Here's Devers two oh two with a
couple homers and 14 driven in
another three two and he got
him.
Brian Wu a couple of strikeouts
to begin his afternoon.
And that fastball is alive today
at Fenway two down.
Here's Alex Bregman.
He's locked in right now.
He's leading the American League
in doubles and now he smacks a
home run.
Well he is one of the guys in
this line that can handle this
pitch that can handle the four
seamer up.
He's short to it.
He gets on top of it.
And you're right.
The last five games boy it's
been a lot of damage.
He's swinging it well here now
will your Abreu swung on and
miss him twisting around at a
fastball upstairs.
Down he goes and Wu strikes out
the side.
But Bregman it's a home run.
The hits keep on coming for
Williamson leadoff single
outside ball for the Mariners in
business runners at first and
second with nobody out right
away.
He's not real sharp.
And here comes one of their
four hottest hitters and J.P.
Crawford into right field Abreu
charges and he can't make a
clean catch.
Everybody had to wait to see if
Abreu would be able to reel that
in.
So just up one station each
Williamson a third Rivas in his
second a nine pitch A.B. from J.P.
Crawford.
Now have the bases loaded with
nobody out against a very
frustrated Garrett Croce up to
center field.
Campbell giving room feeling for
the wall in front of it makes
the catch.
Williamson tags and comes home.
It's a sacrifice fly by Dylan
Moore and a three one Mariners
lead.
He struck out Rodriguez first
time in the first inning.
At the end of the bat a ground
ball bouncing softly right side.
This brings home another run.
Julio is out the Rivas scores.
So a crooked number for the
Mariners each of the first two
innings a four one lead.
Certainly not the start.
Croce was looking to have today
man a second ground ball third
base way and very high hop there
for Bregman and the fire on to
get him.
They get a couple of more it's
four to one Seattle Carlos
Narvaez leads it off swing and a
miss up and out of the zone five
strikeouts from Brian Wu.
What a way again another fast
ball to the top of the strikes
and you're going to get sick of
us talking about that pitch top
of the order.
Here's Duran.
As the Red Sox try and get back
in this thing a two base hit for
Jarrett and now an 11 game
hitting streak Duran at second
two outs.
So now a big spot for Bregman.
He drives another one.
Back to get to that the bottom
of the wall run is in a long
single to make it for two.
Bregman has been the offense
today.
The swing is really short.
He gets the pitch down that we're
talking about this one you got
to attack with Wu.
That's why he's a good two
strike hitter.
You know he doesn't try to do
too much.
He is on a heater Bregman is and
the Red Sox are within a couple
of runs.
Roche with a very quick inning
last inning as he got a one two
three.
Ben Williamson will lead things
off.
He's singled and scored his first
time.
Cut on and missed on the sweeper
he'll strike out one way in the
fourth.
This is dropping fair into right
field.
Leo Rivas continues to get a
board.
Here's J.P. and in there.
Cutter at ninety two and he
strikes out Crawford K number
five for the lefty.
Cutter he kind of wanted out
but ends up being in and
freezing him thinking that's
that heater in that he showed
him a few times.
That's going to be ball for his
third walk today.
So just when you thought he was
getting into a rhythm he's in
trouble again.
The Mariners can cash in here
runners at first and second.
Here's Julio.
Trevor Story leads it off of the
Red Sox in the bottom of the
fourth inning who has five
strikeouts looking for number
six and that kind of ran back
over the plate and he gets a
strike three called on Story.
You know after seeing four
Seamers right now you're
thinking this ball starts it's
going to be off the plate but it
just it comes back.
It's perfect location from
Wolf.
There's two here in the fourth
that brings up Campbell swung on
and missed a waving cut.
Wu has seventh strikeout.
He puts Boston down one two
three here in the fourth inning
top of the fifth here at Fenway
Park Garrett Croce back out
there.
And that means on a Galbraith is
back to work on a Galbraith.
You might have seen on social
media she is crocheting a
sweater but she only works on
the sweater when Garrett Croce
is pitching swing and a miss he
got him with a fastball.
She blows rally away and there's
one down back to back walks for
Croce after the strikeout.
You tell him from Jump Street
today he just did not have that
razor sharpness swing and a miss
fastball riding at ninety seven
to strike out Solano eight keys
in the book first and third for
Seattle.
Will he go out on another K
three to.
Yes he will.
Ninety eight miles an hour to
punch him out to three more
strikeouts in that inning and
two walks in that inning
Banning nine.
So Bregman on base for the third
time Bregman moves on to second
base there's two away story with
a chance to pick him up.
How many chances today for the
Red Sox who has really limited
them but they are threatening
here.
Swung on a little lollipop right
to first base Solano right there
to put it away.
He makes the catch and that's
the out Ryan Wu has retired ten
of the last eleven.
He hangs another zero in the
sixth inning and he has been
brilliant in Boston today.
But now the Mariners will have
the bases loaded with two outs
and this game feels very much on
the line right here.
Here's JP the hottest of them
all.
He has two hits in the game.
The pitch is a check swing.
Did he go.
Yes he did.
Wow.
That was a slider in the dirt.
He struck him out and somehow
some way Liam Hendricks pitches
around three walks in the inning
and is on top four to two Gabe
Speier on for the Mariners here
in the eighth inning.
He has been brilliant this year
for the M's and our buyers will
lead it off.
Fly down to right.
Snobby.
And Red Sox with one in the
right down the line.
The pesky Paul Holmberg that was
sweet.
He got some big hits for this
club and that's a big one to get
him one run closer.
His second major league home run
Kassas draws a walk.
He is the tying run.
They will certainly run for him
and it will continue for
Christian Campbell.
No scoring a fair today.
Mariner is trying to hang on
with the Red Sox down to their
final out.
And they got it in fashion
Andres Munoz with a swing and a
miss for the ages all the way
out to left field and the
Mariners win their first series
at Fenway Park since 2014.
