It was hard to know who was more crazy
Me
Hello
Where are you?
Here they come again
Worming their way into
You promised to help us
I tell myself
They cannot touch me
They are long dead
Hello everyone, hope you're doing well and welcome to this video
And today we're going to talk about the Lumix S5 II X
Now I'm really surprised by this camera
I've had an S5 before and it was a great camera
Now I did change out to Sony because there was some things I wanted from a camera which the S5 didn't have
So it's nice to get my hands on a S5 II X
You know, even after all this time it's been released, there's a million reviews out there
But I really wanted to test it for myself
And this video is going to be a bit different because it isn't going to be like
Oh, going over all the specs and start talking about the lack of OLPF filter
And some people say it's got HDMI lag and that kind of stuff
I didn't experience any of that
So I'm going to look at the camera for what it is and how I felt about it
Because I don't consider myself a professional
I consider myself a camera connoisseur
So I want to call myself a camera connoisseur
Because I believe that if I pick up a camera and shoot with it for an hour
I know if the camera is good or not, good for me or not, I should say
It doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be good for you
But I just think, you know, I know whether this camera will work in weddings, in films and that kind of stuff
And the Lumix S5 II X, man
Damn, the camera blew me away
And I'm glad I can speak positive about it
Because last time I spoke about Panasonic as a company
Not the camera, but the company
The Lumix gang, they came out in force for me, mate
So yeah, so let's talk about this now
So as I said, it's going to be a very brief review
We're not going to go over all the specs and stuff like that
You know it does 6K, Open Gate, internal ProRes to SSD and all that kind of stuff
I just want to talk about my experience shooting with it and using it
So we're going to break this down into four categories
And that is the build, usability, image quality and autofocus
So the build
The build is typical of what you'd expect from Panasonic
It's absolutely fantastic
It is made of good quality plastics, some metal or magnesium in there
And overall it just feels sturdy and solid
I would say it's more suited to photographers
Obviously because it's a hybrid
But, you know, it's got some fantastic video features in there
And it looks super professional
The way that they've blacked it all out now is just absolutely amazing
You know everything looks great blacked out
Whether it's Darth Vader or Knight Rider
Blacked out is always the best way to go
The usability was very good
It reminds me of the older Lumix cameras
They're kind of the same really
Just, you know, most things are the same
When you first get it, you try to muck around with it
And, you know, it seems like the options are all over the place
And after about 20 minutes of using it
Yeah, it's very easy to get on with
No problems there at all
The image quality is where I was truly, truly blown away, man
This camera gives you so much options in terms of what you're recording
If you want to record internal MOV
Which looks absolutely great, no problems with it at all
Dynamic range, everything looks fantastic
To ProRes, to an SSD
Fantastic, can't complain
And it runs super great on even my M1 and M2 computers
There's no problems at all
And then we go to our favorite
Which is RAW
The RAW 6K is absolutely stunning
And that's what we recorded the whole of the intro sequencing
And yeah, I just loved grading it
It was rich, it was detailed
You could push it around, really, you know, mangle those colors
But it didn't do any banding or anything weird like that
Absolutely fantastic
And when I compare that to, say, my FX3
I only have the choice of internal codecs
And then we can go to ProRes RAW
Which I don't use ProRes RAW
ProRes RAW is useless to me
Because I don't use, you know, Final Cut
And I don't want to be converting anything
So having all of those options in the LUMIX S5
Is absolutely fantastic
Then the final thing is autofocus
Now, this was where it was a bit hit and miss
Because on the first day we tried the autofocus
It couldn't really see me
I put my face in the shade and then came out into the light
And it couldn't really see me
It kept on losing me, like, which was really odd
Then when I put the cameras on the tripod
It's kind of like I had to jog the camera
To get the autofocus to wake up
Which was, yeah, that wasn't ideal
On the second day, it actually worked a lot better, though
I don't know why
I'm not sure it was still in the same frames per second
Everything else
But I don't know why it worked a lot better
If I compare that to the Sony FX3
And they both had the same lens
The Sigma Contemporary F2.8 28-70
They both had exactly the same lens
But the Sony didn't miss a beat
Now, that's not to say Sony doesn't have its problems
Because it does
They all do, really
But Sony, out of the box
Is just absolutely fantastic
Whichever mode you're in
It will pick up your face
So, yeah, I would like to play around with that a bit more
Just to see how reliable it is, you know
And maybe test it with a few more lenses
So the question is
Would I buy it?
And the answer to that is yes
When we took the Lumix S5
And the Video Assist
And the Sigma lens
That's all we had to record those Mad Max scenes
And I think they came out fantastic
And looking at the images
I knew that I could use those for
Whatever kind of project I wanted to
Whether it's a film, corporate, wedding
It doesn't even matter
Absolutely amazing
You know, we made so many mistakes, man
And, like, I even dropped his Video Assist on the floor
And it had, like, a little mark on it
And it just makes me think that
You know, we come with all this stuff
And, you know, give it all that big boy talk
That big boy professional talk
But we all still make mistakes here
But, you know, I just think about
When you've got a bit of gear that you love
That doesn't cost too much money
But then can still punch well above its weight
I think there's something special in that
And you can't knock it
There's no way you can knock it
Because if someone had an FX6 or a Lumix S5
And there's a massive difference in terms of price in those
I think you could equally get, you know, as good footage
Like, if you knew what you're doing with the camera
You'll smash it with that
So, yeah, that's my kind of thoughts on it
And would I buy one?
Absolutely, absolutely
And I'm actually thinking of buying one
Because it would work well with my B4 lens
The Super 35 crop in 4K
Down to 4K would be fantastic
My FX3 doesn't do that
Because it doesn't have a 6K sensor
It's only a 4K sensor
If it crops into Super 35 mode
It can only do 1080
So having the Lumix with the fantastic IBIS
And the Super 35 crop in 4K
I could shoot, like, literally anything I wanted to on that
Anything
So, yeah, fantastic camera
And you might actually see me with one in the future
So, guys, I know that wasn't in depth on specs and stuff like that
But I hope you enjoyed the video
And stay tuned for the next one
Later
