I couldn't even look down at my speech that I had printed out
because there were cameras on me from literally every angle.
So I had to slip the speech like into my bag and just put my bag on the floor
and I had to wing it.
I have patio furniture and a breeze.
I paid for that breeze.
It has been five long months and after all the suspense,
I am finally back home and I'm so excited.
There's still a lot of work to be done but all of the big stuff is essentially finished.
I'm so excited to be home and to have True's playroom, her bedroom.
It's so corny but there's literally no place like home.
Um, so I'm gonna go to DC soon.
I'm gonna speak at the White House.
Oh my god, for what?
For like prison reform stuff.
They are gonna start like a second chance hiring program
where they're gonna help the people that are coming home get jobs.
Oh my god.
And so I'm announcing a partnership with Lyft who are giving away gift cards
so they can get rides to and from work, job interviews,
to and from any place that they really would need to go to.
You're doing such a great thing and I mean,
you're changing literally so many people's lives.
I work with Cut50.
They write so much amazing policy like the First Step Act.
I mean their job is to literally cut incarceration 50%.
So getting people back on their feet is really important for me
and I'm so proud to be a part of this initiative
to make people's re-entry back into society easier.
Oh, what are you doing?
Wow, cutie.
Give Kiki a hug.
Where's my hug?
Where's my huggy?
Thank you.
Aw, yay!
I wasn't paying attention this morning and I look over
and Shai had a Sharpie drawing all over the wall in Kanye's house.
Oh my god, he's out of town?
Thank god.
Oh, he wouldn't care.
He would be like, I love it, it's art, keep it.
Oh my god.
You know, but I'm like...
You want to go to Auntie Kiki's house and you can do that?
Don't do it here.
We are in Washington, D.C. for the Second Chance Hiring Initiative Conference.
I am speaking at the White House in a few hours but I just landed
so I'm exhausted but I'm excited.
There are many obstacles that people coming home from prison face.
One of the most common problems I hear is the lack of transportation.
People coming home often don't have access to transportation
to get to job interviews or pick up their children from school.
Yay, we're here!
Guys.
Hi.
Hi, I'm Jessica.
Hi, I'm Ashley.
Hi, nice to meet you.
So nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you.
You're gonna have to see my pillows.
I want to see it.
Erin Haney and Jessica Jackson are my attorneys who work with Cut50.
How cute is that?
These are amazing!
Oh my god, this is so awesome.
Can we stay in the bar here?
They've been such a big part of this initiative and they are helping me through
law school and studying for the bar so I would be lost without them.
So how do these days go?
The president will speak.
And then you'll speak.
And I think it's good if you can stress the fact that, you know,
you've been talking to people as they've been coming home.
You know, you've had a lot of people telling you about the struggles they're going through,
whether it's housing.
You know, you paid for rent for Matthew Charles or if it's transportation.
Yeah, okay, I'll make that known.
But I just don't want it to be missed that you've been like steadily working on this
and playing such a major role.
We should probably leave soon.
There might be traffic.
I know, I know.
Cut 50 and I have worked so hard to make this happen.
That's the anxiety part because I just want to make sure my speech is good.
I think I'm just so nervous and I just wish I had more time to really feel prepared.
All right guys, I am heading to the White House to speak at the
Second Chance Hiring and Reentry event.
I'm so excited to announce some exciting things.
So I'm in the car with my two favorite ladies, Aaron and Jessica.
We are getting sh** done today.
I shouldn't say sh**, huh?
Oh my god, I love that.
That was so cute.
I am freaking the f*** out.
You'll be fine, you'll be great.
This is the biggest crowd ever.
I'm getting pulled into this room that you see
all the presidents speak at when they're doing a press conference.
Ladies and gentlemen, the President of the United States.
I want to welcome everyone to the White House.
That's terrific, thank you.
This afternoon we all have an exciting announcement to ensure
former inmates can overcome some of the greatest barriers to employment,
including limited access to transportation.
To make this announcement, I'd like to invite up a very special guest
and a powerful advocate for not only justice reform, but just a good person.
And I hear she's starting to study law.
Soon she'll be one of the most successful lawyers.
I hate to tell all my lawyers back there.
Kim Kardashian, yes.
I couldn't even look down at my speech that I had printed out
because there were cameras on me from literally every angle.
So I had to slip the speech into my bag and just put my bag on the floor.
And I had to wing it.
It really is such an honor to be here after going to visit so many different prisons
and really sitting down with lifers.
My heart just completely opened up and I wanted to do more.
So I'm so happy to announce today that we have a rideshare partnership.
Formerly incarcerated people will be gifted cards
so that they can get rides to and from job interviews, to and from jobs, family members.
And that is so important, so needed.
So I'm just thankful to everyone here that's in support
and so proud of this partnership with the rideshare organization.
I definitely got the message across.
At the end of the day, I know exactly what I wanted to say.
A huge wake-up call.
No matter what, I always think that I'm talking in front of the entire world.
I'll definitely be prepared more next time.
Oh my gosh.
Matthew Charles.
I never met him.
We just had an email exchange.
So it was so exciting to be able to see him face-to-face and give him a hug.
Seeing what an amazing person he is just is such a good reminder
to keep on doing the work that I'm doing.
We are official.
How was my speech?
For real, for real.
Because I didn't even read anything.
We're so awesome.
Back to studying.
Oh my goodness.
I have some goodies for you.
For what?
I haven't seen you.
How is it to be back from the White House?
It's good.
You should come with me one time.
Girl, I've been.
When a different president was in office.
Okay, well.
Oh my gosh.
So I have presidential.
Hershey kisses.
