Dramatic Entrance
What's up everyone, it's Tim from Motion VFX
And we have a dramatic... I already said that
None of these work
And we have a thrilling pack that I think you guys will love
M-Drama is jam-packed with effects that'll give chilling and suspenseful yet tasteful vibes
Let's take an emotional turn
Into Resolve
And take a look
So if you've downloaded M-Drama and installed it from M-Installer
Go up to your Effects tab inside of Resolve
And then under your toolbox you can just search for M-Drama
And it'll show all that we have to offer with this pack here
We're gonna start with our transitions
We have a number of really cool ones that we're going to explore
We have a number of good titles and overlays
And we have a lot of effects that we're going to explore here
So we're gonna start with our transitions
And just to show what some of these are capable of
We're going to start with our burn transition here
I'm just gonna drag this on top here
And we're just gonna zoom in to better see it here
And we'll just play it through just to see what it looks like initially
And it looks pretty good but there might be a few changes I wanna make to it here
So right away in our inspector we see we have a number of controls over the burn itself
We can change the type of glow that we're having here on the effect
But right away you can see it's a really dynamic and really good looking transition
But it's possible we might want something a little bit simpler
So let's go ahead and add our blur dissolve in here
And right away when we play this back
We can see that we get a nice clean blur transition from one scene to the other
And we can also go and either increase or decrease the blur amount that we want
And sometimes we can want a little bit more of a dynamic transition
So I'm just going to go ahead and remove this
I'm actually going to place this light leaks one
In between this first area and the second one
And if we preview that
We can see that it gives us a very clear indicator that we're moving to a different spot
And it's just a nice transition to have
We can also adjust the seed of the vertical or the horizontal part of the noise
That's being used as a diffraction for this light leak
We can also toggle on some glow if we wanted to add some to this
Just add a little bit more style to it and a little bit more flash
Or maybe we want a little bit more of a gritty transition
We can bring in this dark flash transition here
We see we have a similar result
Except it's a little bit darker and a little bit more mysterious
And by default it will have this black background
However if we wanted to remove the background or at least reduce it
We can just go into the alpha of the second color
And bring that and scroll out here just a little bit
So that's just the start of some really cool transitions that we have access to
Let's go ahead and move on to our titles
And let's just say we wanted to censor his eyes or something like that
We can bring this censoring title up in here
Let me just shrink that down
And if we toggle fusion overlay
We see we have access to the actual mask controls here
And we can move it in place where we need to be
And once again shrink it down
So let's say we wanted to just cover the eyes here
And then we can turn it back to transform
Turn that off
And if we wanted to we could go into fusion and track this later as well
But this is a really nice basic censoring overlay
And scrolling out here
Let's go ahead and move back over to a shot like this again
And one effect that I really like in this is the diagram
And we can use this as an overlay
But this diagram is nice that it can just be overlaid
And make things look a little bit more complicated
Or feel like there's just a lot of stuff going on
So it feels chaotic
Which can be a very nice aesthetic choice
I'm going to go ahead and toggle this out
So it doesn't animate out
It just animates on and then stays on
And we can do things like make it scroll a little bit slower if we wanted to
So it doesn't go quite as fast
And kind of matches this zoom out in this particular shot
And we have the ability to modify some of the distortion a little bit if we wanted to
Now in our typography section there's a lot of really cool credits
Lower thirds and opening title cards
That give a lot of really good customization and aesthetics to them
I'm going to start out with this lower third here
Shrink that down
And I'll just move it a little bit towards the center here
And this one's a nice simple lower third that animates on
And has some flashing letters
We can go into our subtitle and title controls
And change our secondary color here
Choose something like this blue for instance
And maybe that's a little bit dark
So let's go ahead and bring the brightness up a little bit here
Desaturate it some
And we'll just copy that color code over here so they match
But now when we preview it
All the letters are animated accordingly
And when we play it back all together
We get a really nice title opening
I'm going to skim over here
And I'm just going to demonstrate the next couple titles on this frame here
So I'm going to start with the title one
I'm going to throw that there
And this title's really nice
Because we actually have the ability to change
Different aspects of the glass itself
And how it affects the text behind it
So if we go under our glass controls here
We actually have access to a number of different textures
That we can skim through
And see which one we like best
We also have this glass range slider
Which basically increases or decreases the intensity of the glass cracks
And then we have some texture controls on the text itself
So maybe we'll want to make this a little bit darker
A little bit more dynamic here
So we can bring our gamma and lift down a touch
Just to increase that contrast a little bit more
But this title's a lot of fun
Because it simulates glass reflecting and refracting the text below it very well
And then the other one I want to showcase is the title 13
And this one's unique because it has a really nice burn intro
With blur, sparks and particles
And we have the ability in this title
To go into our title controls and change the texture
We can bring up the contrast and down the gamma
To really emphasize the grittiness of the texture
We can even go into the burn controls
And change any aspects of the burn itself
So for example if we wanted these sparks to really be emphasized
We can increase our particle size here
And if we just wanted to have it clear from the beginning
We can disable this defocus here
And that'll ensure that it stays focused in through the whole time
Which may or may not be the look you're going for
But it's optional to disable it
But when we play that back
We have a really nice burn in transition for this title
And then we also have a slow zoom with it
And I'll go ahead and delete that for now
Now moving on to our effects here
We'll start with our backgrounds
Now backgrounds are interesting because
We can either use them as overlays
Or as just a background behind certain titles or clips
Or whatever it may be
I'm gonna go ahead over to the beginning here
And to start with this burning sheet effect
I'm gonna place it on an adjustment clip
Now most of these effects are going to be best suited for adjustment clips
And I'll place the burning sheet on the adjustment clip
And if we go up to our effects controls
We can see we have a lot of control over the fire
The edging and the glow
And we can see what that looks like
If we just start to skim through this here
See we have a nice little fiery effect opening up here
And in this effect we have control over things like
Where this fire will open from
So we can move this upwards
If we want to center it on
Let's say where the door opens
We can just bring this up right here
And we can also change our start and end radius
If we want to change the size of how it starts and ends
And just like the other burning effects
We have access to different aspects of the glow
If we wanted to change the color of the glow
Make it a little bit more vivid yellow
Or if we just wanted to make it white
And kind of desaturate it a little bit
Or maybe we want more of a pinkish magenta fire
Or just a blue fire
Fire is so fun
But you also have control over the particles as well
Just keep in mind that the more particles you have
The more processor intensive it's going to be
So if you want to bring that number down
And help it load faster
That would be optimal as well
And it'll still look great
So the particle control is really nice
We also have control over the background itself
If we want to really change that texture in the background
And make it pop in different ways
We are able to do that
And change the tint a little bit as well
To kind of match the background
If we wanted to do that
And all these backgrounds and effects are dynamic
So if I change the length of the adjustment clip like so
It'll change the length of the effect
And scrolling out here
Let's go with the next example
I'm just going to duplicate this adjustment clip
And remove the effect
I'm going to place it back over this clip
We had over here
And we're just going to look at this scratches background
So I'm going to drag this on top of this adjustment clip once again
And this is an instance where we could use this scratch as an overlay
So I'm going to disable this footage adjustments here
And this allows just for the effect itself to become an overlay
I'm going to go ahead and remove the grain and blur for now
As well as the zoom
So that if we play this back
It's just a scratchy texture here
And maybe that's a little bit too strong
Of a texture that we have over top
We can bring down this texture gain
And maybe the scratches gain as well
Or we can reduce the contrast of the scratches
And then bring the gain back up
And once again that'll soften it up a little bit
And that looks a little bit nicer
And a little bit cleaner
And less egregious and jarring
And if we wanted to bring that blur back
Just to add a little bit more softness to it
We can also just toggle that back on
Maybe bring the strength down just a touch
And I think that looks quite nice
And again what's nice about using adjustment clips for this
Is maybe we don't want it on this scene
Maybe we want it on a different one
So let's just move it over to this side here
And without even having to do anything
We keep that same texture on this footage
And the last background example I'll show here
Will be the wall background
And so if I just drag this onto a fusion comp
Let's say
And let's just move this adjustment clip out of the way
I'm gonna go back into our titles here
And just grab another simple title
Let's grab 12 for this example
And now we have this really interesting
Almost like a parallax effect
With the text zooming out faster
And if we go into our inspector for the wall comp
We can adjust things like the zoom speed
And how fast we want it to be moving
Or if we want it to be moving outwards or inwards
We can reduce contrast a little bit more
Reduce the gain
And then we can go into our echoes controls
And instead of adjusting the actual effects here
We can just go to settings
And bring our composite mode down to overlay
And we can just ensure the zoom speed matches both of them
So let's set them both to 0.2
And now looks like this creepy message
Inside of a wall texture
Really really cool to combine some of these effects
And going back to our effects tab
Let's look at some of our effects that we have
I'm just gonna skim over to this clip right here
Because this showcases quite a few of them really nicely
And I'll also bring in this adjustment clip
Once again we'll remove this effect
Because we don't need that texture anymore
And for this clip we want it to feel a little bit more foggy
Like their minds are foggy
They've been looking for a long time
And a good way to do that is with this reflex effect
I'm gonna go ahead and drag this on top of here
And we can see that it basically takes a lot of the brighter parts
And kind of smooths them out or reflects them
And we can accentuate that by increasing our masks
And maybe I'll just bring it down
So that the tops of the trees aren't as much highlighted
We're just basically looking at the ground here
And we'll toggle our in and outs off
And if I play this back
It really adds a lot of stark contrast to the scene
So I really like this reflex effect a lot in certain cases
Now going back to this clip
I wanna show off a couple more effects here
And for this instance I'm gonna use the ghosting effect
And this can make this a little bit more
Either dreamlike or creepy or mysterious
But it's just a really nice duplication or replication effect
And to accentuate this even more
This pairs really well with the frame drop effect
Which basically duplicates a certain amount of frames
And when you play this back
You see we get this like really choppy looking effect here
But if we flip flop these
We can get a different type of effect
Where the frames are dropping
But the ghosting is happening on every frame
So instead of duplicating the ghosted frames
We're duplicating the original footage
And then ghosting on top of that
And that means the ghosting is happening each time
And it can just make the footage look a little off
While adding a little bit of unnerviness to it
And for this next one
I'm going to bring in the adjustment clip once again
Let's go ahead and remove that effect
And I'm just gonna hover it over all three of these clips here
And I'm going to bring in off screen lights
Let's go ahead and turn off the ins and outs again
And this one just gives a little bit of extra feeling
That there's something else in the scene
Or maybe if we bring this over here
And maybe like we have this red and blue
Or orange-ish and blue look on this footage as well
To kind of make it look like this is a
A little bit more of a crime scene
But what's really nice about this
Is we can adjust the speed
At which it transitions from one color to another
So this can be really good
If we want to simulate types of flashes
Or if we want it to look kind of eerie or mysterious
With different glows happening from white sources
And we can move around where we want that glowing light to be
And how big it is
And we can toggle if we want it to have green
And if we want it to reduce its intensity
We can just go to the video settings here
And reduce the opacity
Now there are a couple clips in here
That we have stacked on top of each other
And that's because there's actually a few effects
That we have in here
That require two clips in a fusion comp
So let's see what that looks like
Let's go over here and
Let's highlight both of these
And make it a fusion comp
And then let's go ahead and drag our cracked glass on
And from that preview you can see
It uses both clips and splits them into two different sides
And if we look under our effects controls
We can control where we're revealing both clips
And where that crack is positioned
But this one can be really fun to split sources in two
And in our other instance
I'm going to make this a fusion comp as well
We're going to showcase the permeation effect
And this one just kind of blurs two together
We can rotate this effect here
On the other side to either 360
Or I can just put in zero if I wanted to
Because that's the same thing
But by default this one will just fade the other clip on
And then you can see them both
Kind of cross-dissolved over each other
Really simple but this has a lot of effective uses
So that's a quick overview
Of just a few of the amazing effects
That we have in this pack
The last thing we're going to look at here
Are our camera movements
I'm going to zoom out here
And I'm just going to go in on this clip here
I'm just going to remove this adjustment clip for now
Now the movements you can typically just place on the clip itself
And we're going to start with this blackout jump cut zoom
And with this zoom we basically dictate
Where exactly we want it to be zoomed in to
I don't exactly want the mirroring to show
So I'll just go to the top of the clip
Which would be a Y of 1
And I just make sure there's no Y scale quake
So it doesn't go above that point
Or I could just reduce it that much
So if I do have any Y scale
It doesn't go above that point as well
Yay math
But we've already got some camera shaking here
So I'm just going to remove the Y scale for now
Now by default when you first apply this effect
It'll start with a black screen
And then gradually fade out
Depending on how many steps you have
So let's say you set it to only 2 steps
That means you're only going to have 2 blackout effects here
Before it ends
Or if we increase this to 7
Then that means we would have 7 blackout moments
Before it ends
And in this case it's probably going to be a lot
So I'm just going to bring it back to 2
And if we wanted to start with the outside zooming inward
We just check this zoom invert box
And now we can see instead of zooming out
We zoom in
And if we didn't want it to fade to black
Every time it zooms in
We can just uncheck this blackout box
And then it just cuts in
And zooms where we want it to
I'm going to go ahead and remove this one for now
We also just have this regular zoom effect
And we don't want it to necessarily zoom in there
Let's go ahead and bring this up near the top once again
And bring it over to the left maybe
And we see it just zooms in on the footage like so
But we can also use an adjustment clip for this
So I'm just going to bring in another one over here
Because maybe we don't want it to zoom in
Right at the beginning of the clip
So let's just go ahead and remove the zoom from here
And I'll drag it onto the adjustment clip
Go back and make sure we're zooming in
On the same spot we were before
And now it zooms in at the middle of the clip
This is a really easy way to create a dynamic zoom
In the middle of your shot
Now if we go back to this clip over here again
I'm going to go ahead and remove these effects for now
I'm going to bring in a blank adjustment clip right here
And we're going to use the multiple zooms effect
And the multiple zooms one is nice
Because we can see we have a zoom here
We have a zoom up here
And we have a zoom over here
So we can adjust where each of those are going
So let's say the first one is when he comes in
So let's just bring this up and over here to reveal him
And then the second one
Kind of already goes where we want it to go
Which is up in that corner where he pulls the thing down
And then this one doesn't quite go where we want it to go
So let's move this back over here
Maybe down just a touch
We don't have much room there
So right there is fine
So it goes in, up, and down
And then zooms right back out again as he walks out
And if we preview that
We got some nice little action there
And those just make it really easy
To have some animated motion in there
Without having to do any keyframing
And speaking of keyframes
These are just a few of the ways
That you can keep your audience at the edge of your seat
Okay, it had nothing to do with keyframes
But you get the point
No, no, the joke didn't work
Just go to the next frame
