A huge "Thank You!" to Coventry City FC, Coach Frank Lampard, and the Coventry City fans for giving our American player a home he can grow, play, and succeed in alongside all of the other talented and successful players on the roster. Especially during the team's most successful point run in almost half a century - what a feather in the Coach's cap!
Well, Harjit, before the game I asked you whether it might take you a bit of time to get a full match sharpness.
Apparently, it hasn't. You must have felt good out there.
Yeah, I mean, it was a great performance by the whole team, so it made my job easier.
Yeah, I felt good today. Again, it feels great being back in front of my own fans, so happy again.
You scored relatively early in the first half, so that must have made you feel good.
Yeah, it eases the nerves a little bit. I mean, it's been a long time since I've scored,
just because of the injury and everything in between. So, yeah, it felt good to get one back.
It was a good finish. Struck it well?
Yeah, struck it clean enough and just kind of glid over the pitch and went in.
And then you got the penalty. You were tripped up.
There was never any doubt that you were going to take it, was there?
No. Yeah, I'm always confident when it comes to penalties, so I know what I can do.
I just judge myself when I do it.
So, you're on a hat-trick for a while and you were obviously keen to get that.
Yeah, I've been on two for a couple of times now for the club.
I'm just happy now to finally get the third one.
But the finish for the third one, when you chipped the key,
that showed how confident you must have been feeling.
Yeah, I mean, yeah, again, I felt great today.
After being out for so long, I feel fresh and I feel quick and light on my feet.
You mentioned the team performance. I mean, Victor took Ravardi with two assists.
That was a good effort from him.
Yeah, he played amazing today. He played a kind of different role for him, number 10.
I think he performed superbly today.
And the whole team performance, what was best about it in your view?
I think just our aggression in general.
I think in the first half, you could see they didn't really want to play against us.
It was hard for them to keep the ball.
They'd get it back from us and then I think immediately or within two or three passes,
we'd have it again and we'd create another attack.
And when you come out of the blocks so well and then keep that up for the full 90 minutes?
Yeah, obviously it's a bit difficult with the fitness, but we were able to do it.
I think the way we've been training and everything around it just makes it easier for us.
Yeah, brilliant play.
I haven't seen Hadji all I know is what he's done here before.
So I was excited to get him back and to play in this level of game today
and show what he did was really, really impressive.
He's been out for a while, so there were a couple of sub appearances,
a difficult game at Derby for everyone.
But today, outstanding individual performance from him.
So does that excite you now you've seen what he can do?
Yeah, for sure.
Because I know he's a big player for us, but to see it in the flesh,
to be that clinical at the top end of the pitch, to have success,
you want those players at the top end of the pitch to have the confidence
and to be able to play the way he played.
Everything about his game, even his work ethic, competing for headers,
but then when the ball's at his feet and he's got space, or not space,
he moves it so well.
So, yeah, it's very, very nice to see.
When you make team selection decisions and they come off, that must be a nice feeling
because the players you brought in all had great games, didn't they?
Yeah, that is good because we've got a squad here.
You compete and some players, if you don't play, they ask why.
Sometimes you see something in a game.
I thought Jamie Allen was outstanding.
He hasn't started for a while.
He probably deserves to start, but competition is there.
It never says anything negative.
He trains at an incredible level.
He's an example to players that aren't playing regularly
because some players are like,
well, if I don't play regularly, I can't get rhythm.
Jamie shows that if you train and your training behaviours are amazing,
what you can do.
He came in that first half, Jamie put in.
He was outstanding.
So, Jadon Silva left back, I thought, very, very good as well.
I've got good options in that area of him and Bidders.
So, really pleased, really pleased with the players that played.
Everybody throughout the team today.
Clean sheet, is that important to you?
Yeah, for sure, because we've had those games.
We've gone 2-0 up at Stoke, 2-2 and win 3-2.
Fine margins in games that make you nervous at the end of the game.
Defensively, we were at it from front to back.
So, very, very pleased with the clean sheet for everyone involved.
So, international break now.
What's your plan with the players that are still here?
Some rest and take over.
Use the rest but be ready for Sheffield tonight.
So, we'll pick the days that they can have off.
Then we'll work some players that are injured
because we're missing players.
So, we want them to get fit
and hopefully they will be in terms of Sheafie, Rudy and Brandon
for the other side of the break and go again.
But this must give the team confidence ahead of games
against Sheffield United and Burnley.
Yeah, I hope so.
Confidence, yeah, and I understand what it takes
because we've prepped a lot for this.
The players delivered.
They delivered with work ethic.
They delivered with their focus and their talent.
We'll have to do that again because Sheffield United and Burnley are there for a reason.
They've been there all season for a reason.
We've been competing in their form for the second half of the season.
But these games are big.
They're all big now.
So, we have to continue with what we did today.
Just finally a word for the crowd.
Again, over 30,000.
Yeah, amazing.
They're feeling great, aren't they?
They're enjoying what the players are doing.
The effort, the quality.
When you come together, how strong it can be.
It's a great feeling.
It's really, really enjoyable, particularly when you have a 3-0
and you can relax in that last part of the game.
But to see the fans throughout the game,
they're seeing individual players' names a lot.
They support the team throughout.
It's a really tough place to come when it's like that.
When we're at it and the fans are behind us, it's so helpful.
We're the first in that partnership.
We have to deliver on the pitch.
At the minute today we did.
And the fans are brilliant.
They have been since I've been here and long before me.
But from my experience, I've really enjoyed and appreciate what they do.
Was that one of the best team performances you've been involved in here at Coventry, do you think?
Yeah, 100%.
I think from start to finish it was just amazing.
And the crowd today, what about them?
30,000 here.
What was it like playing in front of them?
Yeah, they make it easier for us.
I mean, when you're a bit tired and a bit down, they lift the plates again
and they raise the motivation.
Then all of a sudden you have the energy to go again.
And inevitably people say,
why can't you do this at Derby as a team?
I suppose it doesn't quite work that way, does it?
Yeah, I mean, every game is different.
And this game is different to the game against Derby.
And unfortunately we weren't able to put on the performance
that we put on today against Derby.
So after that performance we wanted to get back to our morals
and step it up again a bit.
And from a personal point of view,
has it cleared some anxiety from you perhaps
about coming back after so long out?
Yeah, I wouldn't say I was anxious,
but I was just kind of itching to play again after so long.
And I'm just happy to be playing.
And the team goes into an international break.
Now it's obviously good to get that win going into that break.
Yeah, I mean, it sets us up nicely for the last little part of the season.
So we're looking forward to it.
And you've beaten the top four team.
Your next two games are against top four teams.
You'll obviously gain a great deal of confidence from that.
Yeah, for sure.
Yeah, Sunderland aren't a bad team by any measure.
So it was a good performance today.
It takes a lot to beat these kind of teams.
So we want to just rest, recover,
and then get back to it again next time.
Do you think you made a point perhaps
to your international manager with this performance?
I mean, yeah, hopefully.
I just try and put on my best performances,
catch their eye,
and hopefully be a part of the next group next time.
Will you enjoy having a little bit of a break now
for the next couple of weeks?
It's hard to say, yeah.
I mean, I've been out for so long,
I don't really think I need a break.
But yeah, can't change it now.
And you're on 10 goals now, up to double figures.
Have you got a target now for the end of the season?
No, not anymore.
I mean, after missing more than half the season,
it's kind of hard to gauge where it's going to land in the season.
So, you know, I just hope to be back again.
The target at the start of the season is always a 20-year-old, is it?
Yeah, something like that.
But then, you know, with an injury like the one I had,
it's kind of difficult to gauge how you'll come back
and when and where it'll kick off again.
