My name is Nyota and this is my tiny house and we're in Cocoa, Florida.
I've been living in my tiny home now for four months. My home was built by Moveable Roots
here in Florida. The dimensions are 24 by 10. I'm here at Peace Wind Community. I pay $7.50 a month
for a lot rent. That includes garbage and groundskeeping and I pay my own utilities.
Here at Peace Wind we have a place to hang out at called Cab Cove
which overlooks a lake and we have a lot of friendly, positive, upbeat neighbors.
So the outside of the house appealed to me because I wanted something green
and I love the fact that my door is like that yellow. So let's take a look inside my tiny home.
Hi, welcome to my tiny home. It's about 240 square feet. It was designed specifically for my needs.
I like the fact that I would have my own bedroom so I have enough space for me and I have plenty
of space for somebody else if they were to come over. So here is my living room. So it's my TV
and in the future my TV is going to be mounted. My living room is here, just basic couch.
This is my little like workout area. I got my weights. I exercise maybe like twice a week,
three times a week and you probably need to do more. I just fold up my mat here and use my weights.
This is enough space for me to do everything I need to do and I do like home workouts.
I enjoy being on the couch. I like staying in front of the window, kind of people watching
sometimes and getting some sun and once in a while I'll walk around but for the most part
I'm pretty much homebody so I like to be on my couch and relaxing, chilling. Right, I want to
mount my TV and then from there I'm going to get chairs here. So we have like a little dining area
so I will be eating on my table very soon. The only thing I want to change about my living room
is getting more decor. So it's kind of like plain in here but I'm very carefully plotting like what
to do next. Next to my living room is my kitchen. I spend a lot of time here. I love to cook in my
cookbooks and my open shelving. So I have my stainless steel pots here. So this was a
customization and I wanted it for two reasons. I wanted to be able to quickly get what I needed to
get and I also wanted to be able to see clearly what I have instead of everything being locked
away. So this is perfect for me. I don't have a lot of stuff here again like with the living room.
I'm going to do more decor up on these shelves because it looks kind of bare
and I'm going to also get more dishware. I have a beautiful, this has been like my fantasy sink.
I know this sounds odd but kind of make it like a French or Italian kitchen but I love this.
This is like one of my favorite things here. Moving down here I have a dishwasher. I haven't
used it yet but I'm going to because I'm getting tired of washing dishes. I have a lot of storage.
So here, here and then I have my induction cooktop and a microwave. I also have a convection oven
so this is also great and more storage. The space functions really well for me because I have
counter space so I can go either here or here to prep stuff but this is a full-size refrigerator
which is good. My non-negotiables were like, well I have two. One was the dishwasher and one was the
oven and the oven like I mentioned is like because I like to cook and I wanted an oven that was big
enough to hold like a chicken or something bigger than the conduction microwave would be. That was
kind of important to me. This is my pantry and this is like coffee and snacks. So in my old
apartment we had a combo. I think it was an LG combo. Worked really well. I wanted to have the
same thing here. I will advise so it takes a long time to do your laundry but it's a good space
saver so I have more space. So I have I guess the space that I didn't use. I got this and I got more
kitchen. I like to cook. I like to read. I like history. I kind of like nerdy stuff. I like marble
stuff. I'm a very curious person so I like to learn about new stuff. If I see something I'm
interested in it. Try to learn as much as I can about it. I'm from Brooklyn, New York and I moved
down here February 1st and just kind of adjusting and moving in. New York is not affordable. It's
just not affordable and I wanted to downsize and I wanted to move. What appealed to me about
tiny house living that it's just like a little house. So it's not an apartment. It's smaller
in footprint and smaller price-wise also. One of the things that appealed to me about tiny homes
also is that you can move it anywhere you want. That's like a big thing I guess for a lot of
people. I'm not planning on moving it anytime soon but it's an option. Coming from New York, coming
here more free financially yes by far. There's a lot of wiggle room for things. Bills are cheaper
here. I don't know if I should be you know letting that secret out but bills are cheaper here.
Lots cheaper like for water and electric. Lots cheaper. Lots cheaper. And over here to my left
is my bathroom and I'm a big bathroom person which is kind of weird but I'm really into bathrooms.
This is a pretty basic bathroom but it's big. Like my shower is big. I have basic subway tiles
and this bathroom is like the outside. This is like shiplap. I have a regular toilet in here. I
guess a lot of people do other toilets but I have to have a regular toilet. It's just I can't imagine
that seems like a lot of work like if you got a compostable toilet but yeah this is great. And
what I like about this bathroom, I love my shower curtain. So I love the shower curtain. I'm gonna
do more in here and I'm gonna play off these colors in the bathroom. I'm gonna do more decor
so I'm gonna try to hang like pictures up here and pictures here. Get more bath hooks for my
towels. I have a tiny sink which to be very honest with you I wish was a little bigger
but it's cool and I got more storage in here too. So there's a lot of storage in my bathroom.
These shelves are customizable so I can move this up and down. So I think maybe I'll play with that
a little bit because I need to get more towels. Stepping out of my bathroom I'm stepping into my
bedroom. So I have a huge generous closet here. So I keep I guess odds and ends in the closet. I have
clothes here and this is kind of cool because they actually built for me. Under here
is more storage with a lot of my stuff that I still have to go through. So this is good
because it just kind of is out of the way and don't really have to worry about it but this is
super cool. So this was a custom thing that they asked me about and I said yeah that's cool.
On the wall here I have my Pops collection. I only do Marvel. So this came as a kit from Etsy
and I have about over 100 of them. So they're kind of rotating. There's some in the kitchen
and there's some out here too. I also have built-in nightstands. So I have some books here
at the bottom and I don't have anything over here yet but like with the rest of my tiny I'm gonna do
more digging into decor and things that I like and trying to put everything together.
My bedroom space works very well for me. It's very relaxing actually and this bedroom has a door.
In fact all the doors in here they're pocket doors. I have two mini splits. One is in the
front room the living room and then one is here in the bedroom. Especially in the hot weather
they're very handy. From here I'm going to show you my loft area upstairs. This is the loft area.
I'm keeping some stuff in my closet here for overflow but this is totally not done loft again
but this is definitely going to be a second bedroom. I wanted the option for family to come
and stay when they get the opportunity. So this loft wasn't standard for this build but I added
it specifically for me. As I mentioned like some decor to kind of jazz it up a little bit.
It's a blank slate so that's like kind of the best part of it.
Moveable Roots appealed to me because they're from Florida. They also were able to customize
this home. I saw their YouTube page and I was just like oh wow I like a lot of their stuff and
it's affordable for me. It fit my budget. They were like really on it from day one. I found Peace Wind
basically on an internet search so I just kind of matched two and two together because Moveable
Roots is in Melbourne and this is in Cocoa so it's not too far. This is one of a few tiny house
communities in Florida so this is kind of a central place. It's not too far from Orlando.
It's two hours away from Miami. I feel very relaxed. It's not like I was in New York. You're
kind of like this constant you have to worry about stuff. I feel like I have less to worry about.
My neighbors are a lot better. A lot better. They're less noisy and it seems like people are
more open. If you're in New York they'll walk past you and they'll pretend like they don't see you
but here it's like people are very like hey how you doing or whatever you say hello and
everybody's like really really been welcoming and friendly. I'm working on getting my driver's
license and I have to take my driving test next week so I'm very excited about that.
Not driving my whole life and learning I like kick myself because I'm like I should have done this
like when I was like a teenager but I don't think you're ever too old to learn anything.
I think when you don't want to be curious you're not going to learn anything.
This is going to sound real corny but I like I'm a big movie person too so like there's always a
line that I remember from Mission Impossible so he goes difficult not impossible so I always think
about that. Coming from New York it's difficult because you're kind of leaving everything you
know to come someplace you don't know and so that's a difficult part about it. One of the
things I miss is being able to walk around a lot. You can't do that here so that's like I think the
only thing that I miss but it's good to get pushed out of your comfort zone. I'm willing
to come down here and make new memories and do new things and everything like that.
