#springintotravel Vietnamese Water Puppetry, or Múa rối nước, originated over a thousand years ago in Northern Vietnam. It was created by rice farmers who turned their flooded fields into stages to tell stories. Using wooden puppets on water, they brought to life tales of folklore, village life, and history.

What makes water puppetry unique is its blend of art, music, and skilled craftsmanship. The puppets are intricately carved and vividly painted. During performances, puppeteers stand waist-deep in water behind a bamboo screen, using long rods to control the puppets. This creates the illusion that the puppets are dancing and acting on the surface of the water.

Each show is accompanied by live music performed by a traditional Vietnamese orchestra. Instruments such as drums, cymbals, bamboo flutes, and the monochord add rhythm and emotion, enhancing the storytelling and immersing the audience in the experience.
