hello and welcome to my channel i am
Crafty Patty and I'm so glad you're here
to watch another fun video if you're
anything like me you always forget where
your glasses
are and I've been using this old
cloth glass hanger for I don't know how
long and I just needed something to just
brighten myself up and put a little
bling in my life so I have been
making eyeglass
holders and I've made it with the chain
i've also made it with the wire and I
hope you'll follow along to see how to
make these
gorgeous eyeglass hangers this one here
is all with wire and just seed beads
and I made another one that's more of a
beachy theme and on this one I've added
some little sea stars i've added some
little teal
uh kind of like
rocks and pearly kind of ones and I'm
just loving it so come along and watch
and make some of these fun little I will
say a little statement instead of the
long earrings you get the long ling from
your glasses hey why not eh come on and
have some fun with
me i will be showing you two different
ways to make your eyeglass chain holders
we're going to work with actual jewelry
chain and we're going to work with
actual wire which we added beads to i'm
going to go over the length that we need
for each one of these further on in the
video because depending on how we design
it will depend on how much jewelry chain
that you will require this particular
chain in the middle I'm guessing I'm not
100% sure but I'm guessing this is about
a 2 millimeter this is close to two mill
two millimeter as well and I'm guessing
this is closer to a 3
mm and they come in different varieties
of depending on what type of chain you
like this particular chain it will open
up with pliers so you can take out
little sections to make little small
sections or you can have larger
sections the one thing you'll be needing
for whether you make the uh wire or the
chain is of course your eyeglass ends
they come in usually clear or black or
with the gold band or the silver band
you can also get jewelry making kits
that have all your findings that you
will need and I will go over each of
these to let you know what they are and
the first jewelry finding here that
comes in the kit here is called a culot
and it's got a little tiny ball form
with two holes on the end here and this
is where you place your crimped end
inside so there's no roughness when
you're wearing your necklace and then
once you've placed it inside these close
up together and here's an example of
that this one particular one used the
ball chain and they've probably got the
crimper inside here they squished it
together and then you've got your little
holes here to put your jump ring and
then your eyeglass
holder and this here is the little crimp
bead cover once you've got your crimping
done you can place this over the crimp
area and then you just squish it
together and it's like a little bead
that's covering the sharper edge of the
crimping so it's nice and
smooth and next we have our jump rings
they come in different sizes i like to
have the little tiny ones for more
dainty necklace or you can have a larger
one they come in different sizes so I
have a little bag of um jump rings here
and it looks like they measure them in
millimeters so these little ones are
five and so when I put them on my little
chart here I would say the little one
that comes in this kit would be a four
there's our fives and then we go up to
maybe a six and maybe possibly a seven
just to give you an idea on sizing
[Music]
hey next we have the little crimping
bead this one here as you can see you
can see how tiny that is and it's got
the hole in the middle for the wire to
pass through and it's soft enough that
that will crimp down and hold your beads
in
place and next we have the little wire
protectors and this is you can see the
little channel on the top that's where
the wire gets placed and it goes through
the holes on the bottom there and that
just protects the wire and keeps it nice
and smooth sometimes they're called
horseshoes and then the last one here we
have your lobster
clasp as you can see here so if you ever
have these that break or whatever then
that's an easy way to just take it off
and replace it with a new one
it's an excellent idea to pick up one of
these little felt mats that contain all
your beads and because it's got the felt
back it tends to have it so the beads
aren't rolling all over your table and
losing them and it's got little tiny
sections in here that you can organize
your beads if you so desire the other
thing that I've got on here is the eye
pins they come in 1 in 1 and 1/2 and 2
in um these ones we don't have the blunt
end on the bottom because I'm not doing
an earring this one I'm going to show
you how to use those and I'll give you
an example is I've got the split ring
here i've got the eye pin threaded on my
beads and then bent the end over so it
looks identical to the other side here
so I can put another split ring on and
then you can continue on with your
design
for your pliers it's really handy to
have two smaller Joey pliers these ones
have got the spring load on the inside
so it will come open and shut
easily we've got our wire
cutters we have our round nose pliers
because you'll want those for bending
your wire into a nice round
circle and we have our crimping tool
and on your crimping tool you can see
where it looks like a little lip shape
or a heart shape the top of it that's
your first part of your crimp and then
after you've crimped there you come to
here and you crimp again to fold it in
half so you'll want your crimping tool
as
well and a pair of tweezers like this is
very handy for grabbing out your jewelry
bindings
and then your hardest part will be
deciding what kind of beads you want to
use because there's a zillion out there
and a different combination for whatever
color you want i'm a teal girl i love
the ocean so I tend to always go for my
teals and just as an example on this
particular one
here this has approximately
260 pearl colored beads and it has 44 of
the little teal
ones and the length of this actually
measures approximately 25 in i'll put
the centimeters up on the screen not
counting the eyeglass holder
you can also add little charms if you
like it's just endless so many fun
things you can do with
this here's the first design I'm going
to show you i've got about 8 and 1/2 in
of just necklace chain here and then on
each
end I'm going to do this design like so
so I'm going to be
having the eye pin in here to add my
beads a jump ring and then I'm going to
add a little small section of chain link
and then repeat that design and I'm
going to show you how to do that
[Music]
now this particular chain is very small
so I'm going to show you on this
one that you'll see that all these are
just linked together and you can count
out the amount of links that you want
and then you can open them
up how there's the the break in the the
link so then you can just push it with
your
fingers or you can get another pair of
pliers if that's easier for you but I'm
trying to show you so I've got enough
space in here that you can see what I'm
doing so there I've opened it
up you see so now I can just take that
out and now I've got my little piece
that I want to join my design with to
close up that link so just bring it back
again and close up the
link that's closed up again
now okay so we're going to finish the
other end here to match what we've got
on the side
here grab your second pair of pliers and
what I want you to
do is I want you just to push back on my
right this right plier here i'm pushing
straight
back don't pull open like this just back
and forth this way and now we can slip
that into the last link of our
chain and we're also going to add an eye
pin so slip that on as well
and now taking your other plier we're
going to just bring that right
back so they join up together again like
so sometimes you can hear a little
click and then you definitely know that
you've got them
together and now for my design I've
decided to do one clear bead
i'm going to add on one of these peely
kind of stone looking
beads another clear
one and another one of
these and one more
clear and that's my design that copies
what I've already done on the other end
now hold
it down on the on the eye of your eye
pin down on the end
here so you can work with the top of
your eye pin up here now taking
your round
pliers you're going to bend it towards
you right at the
tip so hold your round pliers right at
the end bending it forward like
so now take your needle sorry take your
round pliers out come back in so you can
grab on like so trying to turn it so you
can see what I'm doing it's so
tiny okay and then bend it in
so to get that so you've got room enough
to get that all the way in we're going
to bring in your round pliers and you're
going to bend it
back so it makes a little
hook then you can come back in and
continue continue to roll that in so it
meets your other wire you can come in
with your pliers and just get that so it
comes all the way in okay you can just
come in with the round pliers and just
bend it back a bit so it's more straight
up and down for your
pin and sometimes by holding it it's
bending a little bit you can just push
it back to where it needs to be
we're going to repeat that again by
taking another split ring and I quite
often just use my fingers to pull it
back slide that
in to
our one we just
made and I'm going to add one of my
little tiny pieces of
chain like so
and then push that back so they're
joined together
again so there's our first one and now
we've got the little link and now we're
going to repeat this
process on the other end of this little
chain part
[Music]
and here I'm adding my last little chain
link and I'm going to add lobster clasp
and now all you got to do is add the
eyeglass holding so I'm going to use a
little tiny 3 mm jump ring and I've
added a little um starfish and I'm going
to add that on just for a little bit
more
bling so I'm just going to bring it into
my other jump ring here and that just
helps it to dangle a little better
rather than putting it directly into
that one jump
ring adding it to that jump ring and
then we'll just close it up
again there we
go now I've got a cute
little starfish
to go to my little beach
theme and the other advantage of only
putting the embellishments on the sides
is that it takes away from the weight
and then you just have this chain that
goes around the back of your neck here
our first one that we made together we
made from chain and using eye pins this
time I'm going to show you how you can
combine chain and wire
let's talk a little bit about
wire jewelry and craft wire comes in
many different forms weights
diameters and strands and how strong it
is it's a little bit
confusing so let's go over how to read
an actual wire
label first of all I'm going to go into
how it says 21 strands well that's how
many strands it's taking to make up this
wire now let's say you had one that said
seven strands well it's not going to be
very strong and that's more for
something that you do for using for like
crafts then you might go up to another
one that might be maybe 19 strands this
one's 21 strands there's some that are
even 49 strands which would be really
really
strong but you also want to think what
are you going to put on this you have to
have at the right diameter so let's get
back into this one now now in diameter
this one is a 014 in so that one is a
pretty good standard for managing to um
thread on seed beads so they've got a
smaller
hole and it goes up to 21 but this one
is one I'm using today is 0.14
the next thing you're going to see is
it's going to say either soft flex or it
could say
um dead soft or it could say half hard
wire all these different things um so I
think for our purpose of what we're
making I would stay with the soft as you
can see it's very soft pliable which is
very easy for beading another thing to
look for is this one as you can see is
actually stainless steel so this is
going to be a cheaper wire than if you
actually got one that said sterling
silver and of course the sterling silver
is going to be a lot more expensive and
the next thing is you can look for the
test strength this one tests for 10 lbs
which is plenty good for what we're
using it for and as you can see over
here it's good for soft materials like
seed beads and freshwater pearls
so for this necklace I'm going to start
with about a 15 inch piece of chain this
one is a little bit heavier than the
last one I worked with with
you and this is the design we're going
to do our second one and the way I'm
going to attach this to the chain and
how I'm going to attach it to the other
end will allow me to show you how to use
these four jewelry
findings i'm going to start by grabbing
the end of my wire i still have it
attached to my spool for now and we're
going to take a kulot and we're going to
place the wire through the hole in the
back side of it
and you can see where the little wings
are pointing up that's the way you want
to put it on and you can just let that
slide down for
now next we're going to add
on a little crimping
bead so we'll pass the wire through that
crimping
bead so let's slide the little crimping
bead closer to the top it doesn't have
to be all the way to the top because
that's a little bit too finicky we can
cut the rest off later and now you're
going to come in with your crimping
tool and you're going to place it in
that first notch
area and squeeze it
shut and you can see
how it has made a little kind of like a
heart shape now you want that to
turn so it's
facing the other way to the next
slot right there then you're going to
squeeze it shut so it folds over on top
of itself
next just bring it down right to the
end and use the end of your crimping
pliers to squeeze it
shut there's your little crimp i know
it's so tiny i hope you could see all
that now you can do a little test if you
want you can pull on this and see if
it's definitely staying put and it's
definitely staying
put and now we're just going to cut off
the end of that wire because we don't
need
it and now let's bring up our colot that
we put on
first here it is
here and that's going to come inside of
the
colot so that wire is
hidden so we're just going to close that
up and now we
have a strong and a
smooth
fastener so what we need now is a jump
ring to attach the chain to the colot
and here I've opened up a jump ring and
I'm going to add the last length of my
chain to that jump
ring and we'll also
add the end of the colot that we just
finished and we're going to add that
on and then we can close up our jump
ring
and now we've got the wire attached to
our chain and we can thread on our
beads i'm now going to cut my wire off
my spool and I'm going to cut it at
approximately 8 in
i was going to make an all silver one
cuz I thought that would be really
pretty and then I just thought it looked
a little bit too Christmy which would be
great for Christmas but right now it's
not Christmas time so I've decided to
put that little bit of blue in there
again cuz I like my
blues and that's what I'm going for here
so I'll just copy this
pattern onto this end here
and I just started with
uh two of these little
tiny beads
here and just using your wire you can
just slightly bend your wire just a
little just a little bit just enough to
get a little bit of a curve in it just a
little bit i use with my fingernails
just so they bend a little bit and then
it makes it easier for picking up the
beads just two of those and then I'm
going to come in
with one of these beads and the other
thing that I'm going to mention right
now is that when you're choosing your
beads for instance this one because it's
a smaller hole than my bigger bead you
want to make sure
that your
wire can come back through those beads
to finish it off and yes this wire will
fit through that bead and it will also
fit through the round bead because I've
already tested that the bigger bead and
now I'm going to continue
to put these beads on cuz I don't think
you really need to watch all this cuz I
think that would be boring for you and
just actually a mention on
beads if you can it's probably much
better to get glass beads than it is
plastic beads because plastic beads will
fade in color in
time and that would not be
good and I've decided to choose this
flat bead for in between the pattern and
like I said I will just continue to
thread those
on and then I'll speed this up a bit
and we'll get to the end part where I
show you how we do the last findings to
finish it
[Music]
off i've added the beads in the same
sequence as the other side and now the
next step is to grab your crimping bead
and add that
on to your
wire and here I've got my wire
guard and I'm going to come up through
the left
and then I'm going to feed
it back down through the
right okay so now we've got the wire
guard on and we're just going to cinch
this up a little bit
more so it's a bit closer to my crimp
bead but not so close that we can't get
that threaded in and now I want to pass
that wire back through the crimping bead
and just so you can get this that wand
started that's will help you because now
what we want to do is we also want to
pass it through a few of these beads as
well so once you've got that one in
there it's a little
easier to get some more
now so I'm going to now thread it
through these three
here see if I can get all three of them
here we go there's all three of those
and let's come through this black
one and that's why saying you want to
make sure that you can get your wire
going
through your beads for a second
pass and it would be nice if I can get
through this last blue one
there we
go now we have to make sure there's no
gaps in our beads but you want it to
have a nice draping
so just come up to the top here
again and just give it a little bit of a
tug here and here i'm holding on
here tugging it
down so I've closed in the
gap so I've still got a bit more up here
on the f on the uh wire guard so just
keep pulling it
down and once you're happy with
the the drape of uh the wire in your
necklace you're going to come in with
your crimping tools onto that first one
here's your crimping bead right there
right below the wire guard and we're
going to crimp that again
and you want it so the indent is on the
right putting it into that second part
of the crimper and folding it over upon
itself once you've got it folded
over come onto the end of your crimpers
and do that extra
little push together
like
so and now we're going to add our little
crimp bead
cover and to make it a bit easier you
can close in on
the wire guard and that will help you to
get your crimped bead inside a bit
easier
and then when you've got your
crimped bead inside the crimp bead cover
just take your pliers and close it up
that just looks like another little
ball so then we can finish this
up and just bring in these a little tiny
bit
more come down here to the end here and
cut off that excess wire
close to your
bead think I got to get some new wire
cutters and the last thing to do is to
add your one more jump
ring through your wire
guard add on your eyeglass
holder and close up your jump ring
and
voila you've now completed another
one and there we have another way to
make another beautiful
eyeglass
holder by
using chain and wire combination
and for more of a simple one that has
beads all the way around I cut 40 in of
the bead wire which is about 101.1
cm i like to use a smaller seed bead in
the middle and then a larger one for the
accent so it's not as heavy and I
finished the ends off exactly the same
way that we finished these ends off
thanks so much for watching and staying
with me and I would love to see what you
create and the colors you choose cuz
there's just so many beads out there and
so many different designs that you can
make so by all means send me a picture
of your
creations and have fun with it here's
some more bling in your life
