Coming up, I will discuss how these five things
are critical to building your career.
Let's get started.
If you're new here, my name is Matthew Royce.
I am a knowledge enthusiast,
professional development classes,
extra work projects, certifications.
To grow your career,
you must be on the cutting edge of your industry.
You must ensure you are growing in a way
that builds toward a meaningful and fulfilling career.
You'll benefit from promotions,
higher salaries, and overall satisfaction
when you invest in your professional growth.
There are no quick wins or fixes to build your career.
You must gain new experiences
and learn new skills over time.
Investing in your professional growth
shows you are ambitious, self-aware, and humble.
Here's why you should focus on the five Cs
to build your career.
Number one, consistency.
When you look at people who are successful,
you will find that they aren't the people
who are motivated,
but have consistency in their motivation, said
a Narseh Wagner, a former French soccer manager.
Slow and steady wins the race, the saying goes.
Put in hard work every day,
make good choices, and show up no matter what.
Consistency prevails in the end.
Consistency is about keeping going
even when times are tough,
when you don't feel like it,
or you have suffered a setback.
Very few people are consistent all the time,
even though it's a simple concept.
Consistency is a marathon, not a sprint.
Consistency is not easy.
Be the person who walks the walk and talks the talk.
Build and maintain trust by being consistent over time.
Take small steps and build the momentum
to put your talents to use every day.
You'll stand apart if you're consistent.
It will help you build your personal brand.
It will help you stay aligned
with spending time on what matters to you.
Consistency is simple in theory,
but not easy to do day in and day out.
Number two, clarity.
Clarity of mind means clarity of passion too.
This is why a great and clear mind
loves and sees distinctionally what it loves,
said Blaise Pascal, a French mathematician,
physicist, inventor, and philosopher and writer.
Clarity is about focus.
There are endless distractions
that can take you away from reaching your goals.
You may get too many priorities,
a lack of sleep or exercise,
or lose the ability to focus.
If you're spinning your wheels in your career or life,
you lack clarity.
This will decrease your chances of success.
Clarity helps others trust you
because they know what makes you different.
They know how you can help them,
and they know your value.
Clarity helps you stay away from things
that will hold you back,
such as believing in the myth of overnight success.
You can't make progress in your career
if you only kinda want something.
Number three, community.
Become part of your community
and your industry and profession.
This will help you challenge yourself and others,
connect with other like-minded professionals
who wanna learn and become 1% better every day.
When you network with people who want to grow,
you can help each other stay accountable.
Meet up with others in your industry
so you can compare notes
and expand your ideas beyond your company.
Collaborate with others and learn new skills and ideas
about how you can become a better professional
and do your job better.
Number four, control.
A man has to learn that he cannot command things,
but that he can command himself,
that he cannot coerce the wills of others,
but that he can come mold and master his own will.
And things serve him who serves truth.
People who seek guidance of him
who is the master of himself,
said James Allen, a British philosophical writer.
Be more self-disciplined in your approach to your career.
Self-discipline is like a muscle
because the more you use it, the stronger it will become.
Stay focused and put your talents to the best use
by focusing on your strengths to be more effective at work.
Understand your value and how you can help others.
Become the go-to person in your industry and profession.
Share your knowledge and wisdom.
Become a sought after expert in the areas you know well.
Number five, calling.
You can't fulfill your calling in your comfort zone,
said Steven Furtick,
an American pastor, author, and songwriter.
The best way to grow is to understand
and align with your life's purpose.
It would help if you discovered
what you were meant to do in this world.
What brings value to yourself and others?
Put your energy into something bigger than yourself.
Find meaning in the daily grind.
Tap into your purpose
by taking on challenging projects of work
and learning new skills.
Okay, let's bring it all together.
