[Music] good morning everyone Welcome back to my lotment diaries My name's Emma These are the a lotment diaries It is so windy today I apologize So before I head into my a lotment plot I have a tap update for you So this tap here is a communal a lotment tap and it actually broke It split in the winter Apparently somebody tried to turn the water back on and a lot of the taps like burst because of the frost and the freezing freezing over Whatever Whatever I'm not a tap expert but I did replace it and the water's been turned back on And I want to show you what's happened to the water Just bear in mind that I'm not a plumber and I've never changed a tap before And um I put it on Tik Tok and a lot of people advised me how to change the tap and I sort of copied their advice I've got all the PTFE tape tape around it and stuff to stop it from leaking and it isn't leaking It is working But I tried the water this morning and this is how it's coming out Guys are you ready no Trust me you're not ready for this Oh my god Why is it coming out like that it's like a jet stream It's like an actual jet of water I don't understand why why it would be doing that Unless this is the world's most powerful tap Um we're going to blast all the crops away I mean I don't I have no idea why it's coming out so incredibly fast Nearly had a heart attack this morning I mean oh that's ridiculous isn't it that's ridiculous I don't know why it's doing that Well I mean it's fixed It's fixed It's not leaking anymore and the water's coming out of it So my job here is done I just didn't I just did not expect it to be coming out like a jetream I mean not sure what everyone's going to think of that but there we go The tap is fixed And there's the tap update Don't ask me to come and help you with your taps or any plumbing at all I don't know what I'm doing That's not looking very good is it i feel like that's going to blow away today It's supposed to be quite a windy day so I do need to sort of repair that I think I might actually just take it off today cuz it is so [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] windy Oh it's windy Is this going to take off please don't take off Please please stay down Anyway how you all doing guys my name's Emma These are my a lotment diaries If you're not already subscribed to my YouTube channel I'd love for you to hit the subscribe button I actually recently reached 42,000 subscribers which is absolutely mindblowing I remember when I had like 2,000 and I was getting like 30 40 views per video It's just crazy But I'm so glad that so many of you want to follow along on my a lotment journey because a lotment gardening is my passion It's um something I discovered about 5 years ago Just literally have not stopped doing like honestly it's just become my entire life u my career and my life So I love it and I think that you will too if you just try just whack something in the ground guys and try and grow it I mean honestly it will change your life Having said all that I'm not an expert And um I planted out all of my tomatoes and cucumbers in April What was I thinking uh I made an Instagram post in a Tik Tok um just about me sort of planting out tomatoes I was like "Here I am planting out my tomatoes and my cucumbers inundated with comments from people saying "What on earth are you doing Emma uh it's April Why put your tomatoes and cucumbers out now?" And I was like "Yeah why am I doing that i don't know I don't know why I put it all out I don't know I don't know the answer I think because we've just had so much sun and blue sky I think I've just sort of assumed it will be okay I mean maybe it will be okay It's very warm in the greenhouse in the day And even when it's not been warm out it's still been warm in the greenhouse So I sort of feel like they're going to be okay They all survived the night and they all look really healthy and fantastic I also putotted on 20 sweet corns yesterday before I left So we've got all the sweet corn out in here as well And this this has done really well This hasn't died overnight So that's really excellent You can see my cucumbers there look very very happy and healthy And then we've got four tomatoes out To be fair these are shop brought tomatoes And I when I brought them I brought them from a garden center They were sort of outside So I think my assumption was that they sort of grew up outside So why not why wouldn't they work in a greenhouse now um they were all doing really well They all look really happy So so I'm not saying you're wrong or anything but um I sort of just feel like they're going to be okay Uh I know the temperature's going down a little bit but I don't think it's going down substantially And I do have fleece so I could always fleece stuff over if we're going to get frost but I think the hard frost is gone now in South London That's where I am South London UK I think the hard frost is over What what's the temperature today if it's showing up on camera but it's 19.6° C in here today and it's very humid 75% Doesn't like that does he i don't like this little face I don't like him I'm going to put a little sticker over him He makes me very anxious He needs to calm down a little bit you know just relax He just needs to relax Um right It's very windy outside So what I'm going to start by doing is sorting out my archway for my pumpkins I'm going to sew my pumpkins this month and I want to get the archway ready for them and weed under it and all that malarkey So that's what we're going to start with this morning Let's go [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Oh my gosh Once again paper wire to the rescue So much easier and less fiddly than twine Just literally holds everything together Slightly too short to go around these But you know what because it's wire kind of works So I'm just loving how easy it is People asking where to buy this I got it from Shell on Earth Um so when you buy the shells from Shell on Earth they do these as well It's like a little store now They got loads of bits So Shell on Earth is where I bought it from Oh it's not going to go there That's okay though That's okay The thing about poly tunnels is that they keep blowing away and they keep getting ripped and stuff and I just had enough of it I also think they look a little bit naff I mean compared to my beautiful greenhouse it just looked awful So not that it's all about looks guys I understand But you know what I mean What I've done is I've covered it in garden mesh So I've just put garden mesh around it and then put some poles across to keep the mesh up a little bit So that's what you saw me doing here replacing this stick Just want to secure it in a bit more where it's blown away a bit over the over the year [Music] Right these end bits here don't quite hit the ground So what I'm going to do so I'm going to use sticks again because sticks are just the ultimate fixer of everything as well as duct tape and also um staples That's all I ever said matter right there we go Is these sticks is there anything they can't do make dinner Put another one in I feel like snapping this one Should I snap it i think I should snap it These canes never snap right do they oh you see what I mean they never snap right Why doesn't it snap like a stick oh I shouldn't have snapped that Look at that Why don't they snap right Right Got a little mini stick in there Actually a mini stick That does actually work Well done There Yeah It just keeps it down You see what I mean the pumpkins can grow up there Move you nearer so you can see the stick in full action Right It's what the stick deserves His moment of glory Right in you You go shoot down There we go It just keeps it keeps it down Anyway it's all been fixed up now So it's looking really good and I'm ready for pumpkins to go out whenever whenever I'm ready I guess whenever I'm ready Seeing as I've decided not to follow any of the uh the growing advice this year and just pack stuff in whenever I feel like it I guess that's what we're doing this year So pumpkins could be anytime It could be next week We don't know Yeah it's pretty sturdy It's good Cool [Music] How cool is [Music] that god Who designed this who designed that okay that doesn't work [Music] Falls It's looking really dry It's looking really dry I mean to be fair I'm not surprised it's looking dry We haven't had any any rain at all for about 2 weeks now And if we have it's been like a little you know spitting little dribble Of course that is that Einstein yeah he's loud isn't he um yeah we've just had a dribble so I'm going to water [Music] it All right this is going to be amazing You ready 3 2 1 go My god [Music] Go here [Music] Right Everybody had a drink Excellent Excellent Good Good news guys That tap the less said about that tap the better at this point I think I think we should just all deny knowledge of the tap because I don't know why it's coming out like that I thought that would be amazing I was like I'm going to fill my my watering can up in like 2 seconds Disaster So I don't really know what's going on with the tap I don't feel like it's me I just feel like it's the water Maybe they need to turn the water down a bit or something I don't know I don't know Right So windy outside today So what I did a lot of you said I needed to buy this a greenhouse window opener Never used one of these before Um it opens and closes the windows when you're not here to do it So it's automatic And basically what it does what it does is it's um it's it works when it gets hot So it's like the heat from the sun And when it reaches a certain temperature it opens And when it drops a certain temperature it closes the window I thought that's excellent Excellent Excellent Excellent So this is what I brought Got it from Amazon We're going to have a little look at it and see Oh it's very snazzy box Oh god it looks complicated Oh there are many many parts There are many many parts Too many parts one might say Too many parts Oh there's only one Okay that's fine It looks like some kind of torture device doesn't it it really does It looks very scary Um I'm not sure this is the day to be doing it actually cuz it is so windy But what I am happy to report is that it's got excellent instructions Oh that's upside down Excellent instructions on the back Like really fantastic So I will link this below Um because I think I'll be able to follow those but I'm not going to do it today I've decided because if I set this up and then it opens the window and it's really windy slightly concerned the greenhouse will blow away [Music] My um potato nests are doing really well They're actually the potatoes in there are actually growing Um these are second earies I don't know if I said that when I made them I think I might have said earies They're second earies Maris Pier Um and they're sort of in this slightly shaded area with the greenhouse here So I think they'll be okay Though they should really be planted out sort of mid to late April but I'm a rebel this year Like I said I'm not following any rules They're coming up really nicely They look so cute in here You see them poking through I mean they chitted really well to be fair And it is quite a sheltered area So they're obviously loving it in here I think what I'll do I'll wait for them to get a bit bigger and then I'll put more straw or hay whatever this stuff is and um top it up with soil a bit See if it can build them up But they're doing well I think they're actually doing better than my early potatoes which should be up now These are my earies These are my rockets And um I planted these in March And I can't see any sign of [Music] them I would have expected to have seen some kind of sign of potato life I'm going to dig one up You're never supposed to do this but I am a little bit concerned that I've killed them all by putting them out too early So I think we need to check Oh crap Is that it hello Sorry to disturb you Um we just wanted to check if you're alive Oh you are alive And you haven't rotted Oh excellent Oh he's alive He's alive There he is We didn't have to dig very far to find him So excellent I've obviously just buried them a little bit deeper than I normally would but he's very much alive There's his little leaf And also that that is very solid So excellent Well done I've just made it reach the sun Hopefully that doesn't do anything He's going to be so confused now cuz he's just like "Oh my gosh I've done it I've reached the sun." And then all of a sudden the sun just goes away like that That's really going to confuse him now But hopefully he'll just have to you know get his ideas together and and get back up there to the surface I believe in you mate Right Come on All of you All of you just grow Right I think I think I'm going to have to call it a day there because it is just getting so so windy I need to close the windows here and secure the greenhouse down a bit And um I'm going to head on home and come back again tomorrow I think because it's still supposed to be quite nice tomorrow Not much you can do when it's windy Windy is the worst weather for an aotment plot in my opinion Um I've been here in the rain I've been here in the snow I've been here in the frost when it's been scorching hot and really hot And wind is just the worst weather because you really cannot get very much done And also it's actually quite a dangerous place to be an a lotment plot in the wind So do look after yourselves things aren't always secured down properly and um they can just fly about and impale you and stuff So it can be quite dangerous The amount of trees I've seen fall down like actually seen fall down in front of my eyes here it's not even funny So it's not a good time to be at the a lotment I'm going to head on home I hope you've enjoyed my little Friday edition of the um of the a lotment plot If you enjoyed my videos as always do subscribe leave me a like I will be back again on Monday with a nice new sunny blue sky vlog Anyway I will see you on Monday guys Thank you so much for watching See you Monday Bye
