Hi lovely friends. I hope you're doing really well. Which of these trends and ways of styling do you use or which are you interested in trying out? Looking forward to hearing from you. Lots of love. Deirdre. XX
Would you like some easy, chic style ideas that really work for you,
help you to look more modern, and I can guarantee you'll get compliments as well?
It's all coming up in this video.
Hello, I'm your friend, Deirdre, and a big welcome back to my channel,
THE channel for ladies over 50, and I hope you're all doing really, really well.
In today's video, I'm sharing five modern ways of styling that are really realistic
for our daily life and our everyday looks, which I really hope you'll enjoy.
They're not really trends. They're more like ways of styling, really,
and they include things that you can easily incorporate into your wardrobe,
and you've probably already got them anyway.
So let's dive straight into my first chic way of styling your clothes, which is color drenching.
So as I'm sure you know, color drenching or monochromatic dressing is all about
wearing the same color or tone from head to toe, and it's a trend.
Well, not really a trend. It's more a way of dressing, really, but it's really in right now,
and I included it in this selection because I feel it's so easy and it's so flattering for us.
It basically makes us look taller and slimmer,
you know, creating a single column of color all the way down our bodies.
It elongates our proportions and gives the illusion of greater height and slimness,
and you don't need to really worry about the colors not exactly matching either,
you know, just roughly the same color.
As you can see in look one, this look is very relaxed and easy, but it can be dressed up too,
and as you can see, color drenching doesn't have to be with trousers or jeans.
It works with pretty much all outfits, and it also doesn't have to be really vivid,
bright colors either, because you can see this, I'm wearing neutrals,
and I'm wearing this gorgeous denim skirt in a light nude beige color.
So useful, just the right weight, you know, to take you from spring into summer.
Love it.
I've teamed it with this lovely open knit sweater,
just to show you that with this color drenching technique,
you don't need to wear tight things either to have more of an elongated look,
because this sweater is a really easy style, dead comfy and relaxed.
It's definitely not that fitted, but the whole effect is pretty elevated
because of the color going all the way down.
It's such an easy way to dress too, for maximum effect.
Now you could do this just with a blue cotton or linen shirt over jeans, of course,
or something really simple like that.
Or you could go really bold and wear a bright co-ord,
which is actually very on trend at the moment, for a fabulous and dynamic look.
Or if you didn't want really bright colors, as I say, you can do it with any neutral as well.
So onto my second chic wear dressing that really works for us, I think, and that is draping.
Now I really think there are loads of advantages to draping in terms of clothing.
It looks elegant and graceful for a start,
and it's really forgiving for areas of the body that might need a little disguising.
It also allows room to actually eat a meal if you use it strategically.
And I think that's what we have to think about with draping.
How can we use it strategically to enhance what we have?
So have a look at my look too, where I'm illustrating it for you.
As you can see in this gorgeous top that I'm wearing, I'm wearing it here as well.
Absolutely love it. It's all cotton. Love it.
It really elevates a look so much.
This is basically, as I said, it's 100% cotton from & Other Stories.
But with this draping, I think it looks almost designer, doesn't it?
Love your views on that.
And draping is perfect for floating around elegantly, but not really showing your figure too.
And in a dress, for example, that's draped, that would just skim the body really well.
And it's a die for option if you're attending a wedding
or you're the mother of the bride this year.
Think about that. Great option.
Now the top I'm wearing also comes in blue as well. It's really, really pretty.
But here I paired it with some wide leg jeans and I think this balances the whole look.
I know wide leg jeans are a bit controversial and some of you have said you don't like them,
but actually it does tend to balance things because the top is fairly fitted,
but the jeans are wider and that is perfect for dressing up as well.
It can look casual or more dressy.
So let's move on to my third chic kind of trend for us, which is maxi skirts.
Now maxi skirts are really on trend right now and will be throughout the year.
I love them for summer.
Just think about a white linen skirt, so beautiful at that time of the year.
But you know, between you and me, I've hesitated a bit with maxi length skirts
or dresses because I don't even actually need to buy a maxi length because as a five foot four,
most midi length things are almost maxi for me anyway.
I'm sure a lot of you can relate and I'd love you to share that with me in the video
comments underneath.
Anyway, I used to think that maxi lengths would swamp me, but if you choose really carefully,
they can be elongating because they draw the eye downwards on the body.
Now I wore this dress, as you can see here, it's a beautiful olive green dress in a recent video
on style tricks that will easily perfect your outfits.
I will link that below.
It's a good video.
And as you can see, it's pretty maxi on me, but it's meant to be midi.
But I actually felt very comfortable in it, even though it had a fair bit of volume.
This trend can be combined with the color drench too for maximum chicness.
As you can see here, it's very simple, but it's so elegant.
It's essentially just a vest top and a long skirt.
But I think that's also why my green dress worked being maxi because it had the elongating effect
of the same color all the way down the body.
So it didn't sort of widen me at all.
Okay, my next point won't surprise you if you've watched my channel for any length of time,
and it is stripes, of course.
I think stripes is something which is totally perfect for our age group.
Well, any age really, of course.
But I think that that chic, sophisticated touch to any outfit that stripes bring,
our age can really carry this off with aplomb,
you know, from a casual look right up to the dressiest of looks.
Of course, you can also wear them in your sportwear if you really want to be on trend.
A stripy sportswear is really in.
But from Breton tops, you know, to striped t-shirts, to striped shirts or skirts, you know,
I just love stripes.
And I think that they add a really chic touch to any kind of an outfit.
Because I think that having something in a stripe is the backbone of a really chic wardrobe,
especially a shirt.
And you may already have one, of course.
But if you don't, you can really pick them up cheaply in cotton or linen.
Just popping on a striped shirt with a pair of linen trousers, I think,
is so easy and so incredibly chic and glamorous, you know,
for the spring and summer in particular with very little effort.
So here's my stripy look three.
When we think of striped shirts, we often think about blue and white, of course.
But they do come in loads of other beautiful options too, of course.
Now, this gorgeous green one was a snip at less than £30 and it's 100% cotton.
Lots of people have recently got into green and I think it's perfect for this time of the year.
Green stripe is just a little bit different, you know,
from a classic blue and white one.
Although I do adore that, obviously.
So I've gone for a pair of ivory jeans.
Very soft, relaxed, but so elevated.
They almost look like trousers, but they are in fact light denim material.
These are from Goelia.
Beautifully cut.
And that's all you need, really.
Just a shirt and jeans.
Perhaps add some earrings, grab a bag and voila!
You're ready for pretty much anything.
So my last point is also featuring shirts,
but all to do with the styling, what you do with them.
So style up your shirts differently.
I did say I like stripes, didn't I?
This little pink number is just so, so pretty.
It's called Candy Pink.
It's a really vibrant shade of pink.
And for a really relaxed look, I've just teamed it with a basic pair of blue wash jeans.
And this creates a great runaround outfit,
but it's uplifted from the usual everyday sort of look.
Still very, very practical though.
Now, I wanted to show you the styling of this shirt, any shirt really, just to illustrate it.
But I think it's a very flattering way of wearing it.
If you want to look a little bit fresher and more modern,
maybe you could try this with your shirts.
It's really simple.
And what I've done here is to wear a white cami top underneath the shirt.
And then I buttoned up the shirt only at the bottom where it tucks into the jeans.
And you can do this loosely around the back and sides too,
if you like more like a French tuck, if you're not a keen tucker.
But the effect of this is to create a downwards V shape all the way down the front,
which is cooler, to be honest, especially as we move into summer.
And it looks really modern as well.
And you can use this method with any shirt, with any jeans, any trousers, any skirt.
And as you can see here, it also works really, really well.
If you want to wear horizontal stripes across your front,
but you're a little bit worried that it might be a bit widening,
a really good way of doing it is to put a plain color cardigan over the top
and do this same process, just button it up at the waist.
And it gives you that lovely narrowing and elongating V shape.
So I really hope you've enjoyed this video and it's given you a little bit of inspiration
on how to chic-ify your everyday looks.
