Something Weird happened with Starship Flight 9, Can't Launch This Month...
It seemed like we were on the verge of witnessing the Starship Flight 9 launch, but the harsh reality is that SpaceX has revealed several issues that could delay the mission until the end of April or longer.
Why?
When exactly will Starship Flight 9 launch?
Let’s find out on today’s episode of Alpha Tech.

SpaceX kicked off April with a major milestone that had Starship fans buzzing. On April 3, Booster 14 roared to life in a successful static fire test—the first time SpaceX has ever reused a Starship booster. It was a powerful, flawless test that sparked hopes Flight 9 was just around the corner. For a moment, it felt like the countdown had truly begun.
But here we are, days later, and things have gone... quiet.

Since that fiery test, there’s been little visible movement at Starbase. No new tests, no loud engine rumbles, not even the usual flurry of activity we’ve come to expect during a launch buildup. The most noticeable development? Booster 14 was lifted off the orbital launch mount and transported back to Mega Bay 1 for further inspection.
Well, as with everything Starship, there’s more going on beneath the surface.
Booster 14 still has a long checklist ahead. Once it’s back in the hangar, it needs a thorough inspection—especially of its 33 Raptor engines. SpaceX learned the hard way in earlier flights that cutting corners here can cause serious issues. This inspection phase alone could take several days or longer, depending on what engineers find.

After that, critical hardware still needs to be installed. We’re talking about the hot staging ring and flight termination system (FTS)—neither of which are quick plug-and-play jobs. The hot staging system in particular is under the microscope right now. Engineers suspect that the clamp ring used during staging may have contributed to recurring second-stage problems in Flights 7 and 8. If redesigns are needed, that could stretch timelines even further.
