Motivated by Love and Understanding

A man says that finding motivation to do income-generating work has been a challenge for him lately. He wants to know why he has lost his ambition for earning a living and the drive to achieve things and pursue results.

Rupert says: ‘Your previous motivations were all engaged in the service of the separate self. When you became aware of this understanding, the ego started diminishing, along with the motivation to engage in those activities. But after a while, a new motivation will arise in you that no longer comes from the egoic self but from your love and understanding.

‘And just be careful if there’s any attitude in you that drive, ambition, motivation or desire is contrary to what we speak of here. It is quite common in the spiritual community that this is considered to be egoic – but that is a misunderstanding. Only the desire, motivation or ambition that comes from the sense of lack is contrary to what we speak of here.’
