Forgotten Train Set Found in an Abandoned Time Capsule House
Located in the Muskoka region of Ontario Canada, this long abandoned house sits boarded up along a remote highway. Unassuming from the outside, this forgotten bungalow is overgrown and boarded up, nothing more than an eyesore to neighbours and drivers passing by.

One day, in 2020 an explorer from North Bay Ontario named Chad Gray and a friend stumbled upon this home, curious, he pulled over and headed inside with no idea what he was about to walk into. Inside, the home is a perfectly preserved time capsule, with nothing but the effects of time altering the conditions.
As I entered the home, I was hit with that familiar blast of abandoned house air, the musty damp smell that never leaves you, that tells you that you’re in for a surprise. With an asian themed tiki bar, a fully intact living room, kitchen, bedrooms and more, this is the kind of house that only comes along every so often.
The biggest surprise sits in a small room in the basement, where the German man who lived here spent years building a custom toy train set, in an Austrian Alps setting. While this train set would have been spectacular at one point, it now sits like a post-apocalyptic scene, a miniature version of an abandoned village.
The owner of this home was a German American named Günter, who moved to Ontario Canada with his young wife. The man was a high school teacher, teaching grades 11 and 12 at a local high school.
As a personal project, he was building a separate, self-sufficient home next door. He had his students build a scale model of the home, which is still there today.
One day, Günter suffered a heart attack while working on the unfinished house and died shortly after.
His wife didn't want anything to do with the project or to find someone to finish his view of the unfinished house. His wife packed her belongings and went back to her country, leaving this home abandoned and full of Günters belongings and his passion project next door forever incomplete.
