Driver charged in deadly crash that killed woman in Chicopee

the connection with a deadly crash in Chapi was in court this morning and tonight we are hearing from his attorney in this ongoing investigation 22 News reporter Claire Overton attended today's arraignment and tells us what happened A Chap District Court judge entered a plea of not guilty on behalf of Levant Williams Jr one of the two men charged in relation to the deadly crash back on February 9th That crash resulted in the death of 34y old Vanessa Perez Police say she was struck and killed by two separate vehicles as she was walking on Abbey Memorial Drive That night a call was placed to 911 by an individual that identified theirself as Levant Prosecution says the caller hung up the call when they told the dispatcher police arrived but didn't stay to speak with police Williams is charged with leaving the scene of personal injury and death However his lawyer says there are many issues with the case He tried to do what was right that night He stopped his car We had to tell the Commonwealth that he uh called 911 Uh which they did verify Uh he was flagging down people We think that's why the witness was able to even be there to try to help this person that was laying in the road uh which he thought was deceased And there's significant evidentiary issues that we'll deal with during the case The judge set Williams bail at $2500 which his attorney said he was able to post The other driver charged in connection with this case is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday working for you Claire Overton 22 News
