Well, for Atlanta coming off their first win of the year, it was a beauty last night, a 10-0 whitewashing of the Marlins.
And they will try to do more of the same tonight behind A.J. Smith-Shauber as the young man will make his second start of the year.
And then for A.J. Smith-Shauber trying to lock down a spot in the rotation. No Ronaldo Lopez.
There's going to be an opportunity here. This is one for him where he can take another step to kind of lock in that spot down.
A little breeze as well. It's blowing out to right field, so keep your heads up in the chop house.
Could have a couple going that way this evening.
All right, folks, we're ready to go from Atlanta. First pitch of the ballgame, line drive, left field sinking fast.
That's going to get down for a base hit for Edwards. He's going to motor towards second.
He's got a double on the first pitch that he sees here tonight.
Right on cue, right, Kyle? Be aggressive in the zone.
And I thought last night they were a little bit timid with the fastball from Schwellenbach.
Well, he tried to get me over fastball right down the middle of the plate.
De La Cruz playing a little bit deeper. He thought he might have had this one.
Just hits off his knee. Once that goes towards the infield, this is an easy double.
So the Marlins, four singles yesterday, they did not have a single extra base hit.
And the first pitch of the game tonight, Edwards does get an extra base hit with a double.
And now Stowers comes up aggressive. This time, De La Cruz drifting back.
And he will get it on the edge of the track.
Edwards going to try for third. We got a play!
De La Cruz makes amends, and there are two away.
Big throw out of left field against Xavier Edwards,
who is trying to tag up on the fly ball to left from Stowers.
What a tremendous throw.
You see how he's got to get back to the bag right away.
He doesn't get back until he catches the ball. That's too late.
I don't know that anybody was more fired up than A.J. Smith-Schauber was.
Here is Otto Lopez. He was 0-4 in game one, as that slider misses inside.
And that's a two-out walk for A.J. Smith-Schauber.
Now Matt Mervis, lefty hitting first baseman.
Craig's pick to click today. Steve's guarantee.
And Craig's pick, who was clapping there.
Mervis still looking for his first extra base hit in a Marlins uniform.
First pitch, Mervis crushes out to right.
McKelnick is back. He's looking up, and it's into the chop house and gone.
Matt Mervis with the tone setter in the first.
A two-run homer, and the Marlins up 2-0 right away.
And then those two-out walks always come back to haunt.
Here's a pitch that's supposed to be away, a fastball out over.
He absolutely crushed this ball, just getting over that right field wall.
Up towards the chop house.
Now Eric Wagman, 3-2.
That is low. Ball four.
Here is Griffin Conine, the sixth man to bat for the Marlins here in the top of the first.
0-2 pitch, and he got him.
Good splitter gets Conine, but the Marlins do jump out in front with a Mervis two-run homer.
Marlins two, Braves coming up to the plate for the first time in the bottom of the first inning.
Michael Harris climbing in, fresh off a big night last night.
And he swings and hits one hard out towards right center field.
That's going to lay down and bounce to the wall.
Harris off to the races, heading for second, and he'll hold right there.
Deja vu to last night.
Got the first inning started with a double to right center last night.
Does the same thing tonight, and he's in scoring position for Ozzie Albies.
Well, that was a rude way, Nelly, to greet Mr. Cal Quantrill,
who's out there on the mound for the Marlins tonight.
The 30-year-old right-hander making his second start of the season for Miami,
pitching with a lead, but he's got some early trouble.
That's a line drive into right field, but it was tattooed right at Kyle Stowers.
And Harris, the second, will go back to second base.
And this guy had a homer last night, first of the season for Marcelo Zuna.
Two-two.
In the air.
Shallow right center field.
Stowers has got it, and there's two away.
Everybody got into the act last night.
Matt Olsen as well, a homer and three driven in.
It just, last night, felt cathartic in a lot of ways for this Braves group.
Better be careful.
3-1.
And he swings and lifts it in the air to center field.
Derek Hill can really move.
He's got it on the track.
And Cal Quantrill leads off with the double, and then he gets out of it.
2-0 after one.
Two down for Liam Hicks.
There's a fly ball in the air to right field.
Kelnick is going back.
He's turned around on the warning track at the wall,
and that's off the bricks for Hicks.
He just missed a homer, and he slides in safely.
Feet first with a double at second.
He just missed a homer.
Back to the top of the order.
Edwards, who doubled last inning.
That is in there.
Splitter catches the outside corner.
Edwards down looking.
Kelnick at first base for Michael Harris.
Michael has been torching the baseball this series.
On the ground at first,
Mervis tries to get the lead runner, Kelnick, and he just does.
And this is where you might like to see Michael Harris.
Two outs now.
Maybe try to steal a bag.
Didn't score in position for Ozzie.
16 of 17 against the Fishers here.
Opponents stealing.
And there he goes.
Pitch is high.
Throw down to second.
Banks!
They got him.
Liam Hicks with a one-bouncer.
Very good grab by Xavier Edwards.
And the Marlins are flashing the leather and the arms here so far.
Here's Derek Hill.
He's nothing for one at the plate.
He lined out to De La Cruz in the second.
Here's a line drive into left field.
A base hit for Hill.
Big turnaround first.
He got to contest with his speed.
This is a good opportunity right here for Hill to get a good jump,
get a good lead.
Might allow Paulie to get a good pitch to him.
And there he goes.
It's a good pitch to throw on.
And he is safe at second with a headfirst dive.
Derek Hill with his second stolen base of the season.
And the Marlins have a man in scoring position.
Ozzie Albee's backhands.
Two away.
And now you've got Hill at third base.
So now a chance for Liam Hicks who's had quite a day.
His first extra base hit nearly homered in the second.
He threw out Harris in the third.
Now he has a chance for his first big league RBI.
As Hicks lines one into left field.
That's a base hit for Liam Hicks.
It's 3-0 Miami.
Fastball up.
Nice job of going the other way.
You're not trying to pull it.
You let it travel a little bit.
Watch how he lets this ball travel.
You just punch it into left field.
And it's an easy RBI base hit.
Just keep waiting for the Braves to get something going offensively here.
See if Drake Baldwin can give them a spark.
Baldwin to left field.
Conine drifting back.
And then he redirects and drops it.
And Baldwin gets to second base on the misplay.
He went racing over to the line and just flat overran it.
He's in a ballpark that he's not used to playing in.
And we talked about that breeze picking up a couple of innings ago
blowing left to right.
And he went to the line, and it's like it shifted on him.
Runner in scoring position for Nick Allen who fanned his first time.
1-2.
Allen wands and misses that curveball in the dirt.
Cal Quantrill with an inning-ending strikeout.
The breaker bottomed out on Allen.
Here's Matt Mervis.
He's two for three.
There's a high drive to right field.
Way back there and gone.
Headed towards the chop house for Matt Mervis.
It's a multi-homer game for the Marlins' first baseman.
And he just unloaded on that Suarez changeup.
There's the crew.
All rise for the second time, Nellie.
104 off the bat, 421 feet to right center field.
Mervis in Miami.
Start to dig it.
Braves need a rally in the bottom of the ninth.
Olsen, Riley, Daly, Cruz coming to the plate.
And a new pitcher coming on to try to close it out for the Marlins
is Anthony Bender.
Bender, 3-1 pitch.
Walked it.
Well, there's a spark.
It's a rather interesting start here in the ninth.
Here's Riley.
On the way.
And that one is tagged out to right field.
Stowers working to his right.
He makes the catch.
Here's Brian Daly-Cruz.
That's a big first out for Bender.
0-2 the pitch.
Swing.
And a miss.
Got him with a sweep or two away.
This is the organization of the Marlins that the Braves have had more success
against than any other that they've played.
It seems like every time the Braves and Marlins get together,
it's an Atlanta domination.
But tonight it's Marlins 4-0.
And again, the 1-2.
Fly ball in the air.
Right center field.
That should do it.
Derrick Hill is there, and the ball game is over.
The Marlins blank the Braves in game two of this three-game weekend series
tonight, and they down them by a final score of 4-0.
