Red Sox trying to sneak in to
today against the St. Louis
Cardinals weather is permitting
we're about to get underway
later on tonight seven o'clock
on ESPN Game 2.
Here comes Sean Newcomb out of
the home first base dugout.
What a moment this must be for
him he was expecting to pitch
tonight on national TV on
Sunday Night Baseball against
the St. Louis Cardinals on kind
of a cool gray day.
Why not.
No sleeves.
New fire takes a walk for the
sixth time adding to his 514 on
base percentage.
Two bounding ball there's
Hamilton the story got one on
the first double play.
So already four of those will
Sean Newcomb has been on the
mound swing and a miss struck
him out.
Yes good for Harris down Hacken
and Newcomb faces only three
men.
Andre Pallante was terrific
against the twins Parker.
Let's see if he can go two for
two an excellent starts to start
the season.
Well Andre Pallante I mean
really just doing a nice job
against both righties and
lefties as we talked about a
minute ago keeps his defense on
his toes.
That's it to third.
Nice pick by Aronado and he'll
throw a strike for out number
one Duran retired Pallante has
his first round ball up Devers
batting one sixty seven strike
out troubles early but he's
heated up.
This one's smoke torch short and
Mason win quickly for the second
out three and two for Bregman in
the dirt.
Bregman takes a walk and Casas
will come to bat with two outs
here in that and a swing and a
miss.
So Pallante works overtime to
ground outs one strikeout Nolan
Aronado.
His plan of attack is today.
Nice play by Hamilton to steal
one.
We rave about his range at
second base.
He shows it off right there.
Number one he's so quick really
good first step and a base hit
to left first hit of the game
for the Cardinals.
Luke and Baker on an old to
count got a cookie and didn't
miss it.
And Jordan Walker is taking his
time coming to the plate drives
that one to right.
That's going to get down for a
base hit.
Baker lumbers to second he'll
stop there and the Cardinals
have a one out rally here in the
top of the second Baker and
Walker back to back singles
swung on and missed a fastball
that's not by him and down he
goes for strike three two down
second strikeout for Sean today
inside ball for the bases are
loaded for Mason Wynn to.
Struck him out into a slider at
eighty two and the Cardinals
leave him loaded but a four
pitch walk and the bases are
loaded for David Hamilton.
Now the Red Sox are set up for a
big are they ever Ricky and in a
ballpark like this the game can
get away in one inning like it
did on Friday.
He got a big strikeout for
Pallante and now the catcher is
up with the harder slider right
under the zone.
Perfect pitch ground ball to
third.
Aronado's coming home and the
stretch out by Herrera.
They get the force.
He held the plate two outs.
So story is forced bases loaded
but now they're two out.
Oh Jaron Duran the batter he
bounced out to third his first
time up bouncing ball right to
short and Pallante gets out of
it.
He is fired up and like Houdini
he got out of it.
Way to go Andre Pallante and now
a one out walk to Herrera here
in the third inning.
Well this is where my old buddy
Ramone Avila.
So the Phillies used to say
someone's got to pay and maybe
Wilson Contreras will be the
pay payee that is just inside
and called a strike and delayed
reaction from Maliki Moore.
He punches him out and they're
two away.
Here we go early in this game.
This is kind of a key spot for
Aronado who lined out to the
second baseman hammer toward
third and down the line that's
headed for the corner Herrera
around second on his way to
third.
The throw will come into second.
It's a long single for Aronado
and the Cardinals have him at
the corners with two outs
popped up sky high and foul
ground.
Here comes Kassas near the boxes
backs up and he's got it.
Newcomb again tiptoeing on that
line but he makes a big pitch.
Cardinals make a defensive
change here.
Pedro Páez has entered the game
behind the plate as the inning
wrapped up.
We went to break Yvonne Herrera
had to be helped off the field.
Yeah I don't want to speculate
as to what it was but obviously
not good as you're seeing them
gingerly with that left leg.
I really hope that nothing too
serious for Herrera.
But this puts you in a tough
spot here with the doubleheader
especially Victor Scott will
bat now with one out that slide
toward left that is going to hit
high off the monster.
Walker's got a hustle to second
and he's going to barely beat the
play.
That's a base hit for Victor the
other way.
First and second one out for
Mason Wynn is on the ground
right side.
That's through from base here
comes Walker around third.
Ref Snyder's throw is on target
but late ball pops away.
Newcomb has to back it up and
Wynn ends up at second.
It's a one nothing Cardinals
lead from Mason Wynn who gets
his second hit with runners in
scoring position on the young
season.
Good piece of hitting sneaks it
through the right side.
This is a backdoor cutter.
Very good base running for
Mason Wynn to take second.
But that is walk number three
for Palante and it brings in
Christian Campbell.
Runner goes and got a pick.
Ref Snyder will he get in his
throw away in the left field.
He'll hold it second.
They had a chance to cut him
down.
The Red Sox caught a break and
they have the tying run at
second.
So a stolen base for Ref Snyder
his second and David Hamilton
will bat one to turn the whole
of the base.
Ref Snyder rounding Walker
firing home the run is in and
we're tied one one Hamilton
snapping that over twelve in
style and stolen base proved to
be very big and it's a one one
game.
That's easy enough for Ref
Snyder to score Palante's
breaking balls have all been in
the dirt.
That one hangs in the zone.
David Hamilton does his job
Baker single then was left on
some of the Cardinals left the
bases loaded in the second down
he goes swinging 92 mile an hour
fastball number two and here
comes Cora.
That's a nice job by Sean.
A lot of base runners out there
but he never gave in.
You'd expect the hometown kid
get a nice hand as he comes off
the mound here.
It's another day for Rafi
Devers to continue a bit of a
hot streak.
We know how the season started
in the first five.
You know he didn't exactly come
out of camp ready to go here
swinging the bat but the last
three or four games he's looked
a lot better.
That was a bullet back to second
base to J.C. and all the way
back to first Mason win two outs
for Pedro Pace driven toward
right.
That's down the line that's
going to be good that'll bounce
up against the fence and that
will ricochet into the seats
that will tie the game.
That's a bad break for the
Cardinals.
The go ahead run is Victor Scott
at second win at first two outs
and here is Pedro Pace coming up
swing and a try.
That's hammered toward left
Durant back that's high off the
monster two runs are going to
score.
Pace on his way to second he's
done it again.
The Cardinals lead it four to
two.
How about Pedro Pace.
Here comes Ryan Helmsley who in
some ways is the best relief
pitcher in all of baseball.
The Red Sox have the tying runs
on base.
Helmsley can't throw a strike.
So now one out and here's Romi
Helmsley fly ball left field.
That one hitting story is in a
Bregman down to third and a
second Romi Gonzalez a one run
game.
Hunter takes ball for inside and
they are loaded for Durant.
He did swing the best two outs.
They're down to their last out
with Devers coming up.
Another miss would tie the game
three and two to Devers a lead
at every base and will be off
with a pitch.
Here it is.
Devers takes ball for we are
tied in the night.
What a great plate appearance.
Told you he was due to give up a
run.
Just put it in existence.
Will your Bray who coming up in
a big spot just so calm he
walked against Helmsley in the
night.
The chance to be the hero here.
Fly ball left field score the
Red Sox walk it off.
They're in ten.
What a cut today.
