This baby eastern gray kangaroo weighed less than a small coin when he was born.
From birth, he will increase in weight a staggering 60,000 times to reach the size of his dad.
This requires a lot of protein. Luckily for him, he lives in a rather special place.
Anglesea Golf Club, near Melbourne. Since the course was built 60 years ago,
the kangaroo population has exploded. At the last count, there were 359 kangaroos,
nearly 20 for each hole. There are so many partly because they're protected here,
and partly because of an added ingredient. Ground staff regularly add nitrogen fertilizer
to the green. Grass roots quickly take up the nitrogen and convert it to protein.
This makes healthier grass, perfect for golf and kangaroos. It's the equivalent of eating
supercharged grass. So the kangaroos breed faster and more survive.
That's the power of nitrogen in a grassland. These kangaroos have hit the jackpot.
