Probably Jesse Winker will not be in the lineup as the DH.
But other than that, this is as we're able to get back to full health.
Yes, this feels like the the varsity team and Francisco and but the Mets don't play an
exhibition game after this. I thought it was a little unique to not have a game the next two
days. Yeah, the Yankees move on Thursday. Ben Rice leads off the Dartmouth product at 152 at
his rookie year last year. He's got an 880 OPS and they are counting on Rice to be a most day's
starter at DH with the funny thing about Rice's season last year. He had seven home runs,
three of them in one games or in July, I should say, against the Red Sox.
Static ahead 0-2, tries to blow a fastball by him, gets on deck. The Yankees of course are
hamstrung by injuries to starting pitchers more than a D.J. LeMayhew down as well.
And that makes them a substantially left-hand hitting team. Left-hand hitting teams,
you want those at Yankee Stadium. Yes, and I think that they've been searching for left-handed
pitching, which is partly why they would need a right-handed pitching or hitting.
And they certainly have right-handed bats, Goldschmidt.
2-2 coming to Rice, and he fouls that one. He had been dealing with some back issues in his
final days before he was traded from Tampa Bay. He already over six for the Mets, but he was
great in the postseason. Fly ball out to right, and Soto drifting to it.
I mentioned to Milwaukee in the deal that brought them Devin Williams, they signed Max
Freed, Cody Bellinger, and Paul Goldschmidt as free agents. With the absence of Garrett Cole and
Luis Hill, I mean that's the killer, right? Losing Cole for the season. Garrett Cole's
production last year when he was hurt to begin the season. Hill has a lat injury. So,
you know, they got the two lefties at the top of the rotation, Freed and Rodon,
and that looks good. Marcus Stroman, who was worried, he's a third starter.
Taken low by Dominguez, 2-1. You know, it's interesting the beginning of spring training,
it wasn't a place for Mark from Tyler McGill on our side. It's funny how things work out.
That just missed out. That was two years ago, played just eight games before he
underwent Tommy John surgery. Came through six at bats, he draws a walk here, but he also has
had a really good spring, and they're counting on Dominguez to be an everyday player in left field.
Question marks, then it certainly looked like seven, eight weeks ago.
It's not just Chisholm, who was so much. Checks his swing on the splitter, and he held it in time.
Call one. Chisholm like 25, so he really picked it up.
Ended up hitting 24 home runs and stealing 40 bases lead. Of course, the Marlins moved him
out to center field, but the Yankees didn't have a need in that area of a good splitter
by static, and it's one on one. Challenges the call. Calls confirmed.
They could have called a swing as well as the fact that it was in the strike zone.
Loses the challenge, so the last day will be working with the challenge system until next year.
He formed a third base, but they sounded like they were excited to get him to second base this year.
A little more reps there. I think that, and you know,
it's such an up and down career with the Yankees. I think both parties were probably,
he was, he wasn't quite as sharp last season as he may have been in the past.
Static behind three and one. For Ryan, it's just his fifth appearance of the spring.
He is yet to give up a hit in spring training playup, and he walks Chisholm, and now they're
two men on. Now J.C. Ascara. Ascara's quite a story. 29 years old. Drafted by Baltimore in 17.
Wound up in independent ball in 22. American Association.
That's awesome. Go play an independent ball. Keep playing. Opening day roster,
get to the big leagues. He was a Cat Gastonia Honey Hunter. Played against Gastonia,
and there, but I'm pretty sure we played Gastonia.
Runners start to go, throw behind at first, and Alonzo had not moved up to a third,
so he was going to be hung out to dry had Alonzo closed some ground.
Everson Pereira, and this is strike three and one. It's Tom Hanahan calling the balls and
strikes today. It's a big name in Yankee history, Joe McCarthy. Not that Joe McCarthy, but
that's driven to center field, but series right there, and he makes the grab. Dominguez will hold
at second base, and it looks like we're going to get a pitching change, and Carlos Mendoza's
not going to go any farther for a front line guy who could not. Pereira, who had Tommy John
surgery last June. He's a guy, they've never been quite sure exactly what he is.
Thought he had some power. Begin the year in the minor leagues.
Washington State product, 2-2.
Gia, Moon Gia. This spring, but he has swung the bat much better the last couple of days.
A single and a double yesterday, so he looks like he's won. Selfishly as a position player,
leaving camp, swinging the bat well is the way I like to do it. Back in the gap, and over comes
Moon Gia to make the catch. So it's now Moon Gia showing off some wheels. Get a fast bat. Francisco
gets a fastball here and really drives it in the gap. A wonderful play by Moon Gia. Juanito Soto
stands in there. Fascinating, right? For Soto's first appearance in this game.
Soto had a chance to get together with Moon, and the curveball in for a strike from Stroman,
and it's nothing at two. I think it's down. And he was correct, it was low.
Training game, we're firing him away. Yankees lost one on the top of the first, Soto wins one.
On the right side. It's fascinating, you've got set with cutters and sinkers.
He wants you to swing at marginal pitches and bad balls.
But Juan and Marcus are having a good time dancing with each other out there.
This is a fun matchup. Soto grounds one to the right side. Rice has trouble with it,
but makes the play in time for the second half. Soto able to leave that at bat with a smile on his face.
Marcus throws his two seamer, his cutter, an overhand curve.
Just a bit of everything. Good change up in that split finger. He had five different pitches
last year that he threw at least 10% of the batsmen. Alonzo takes fastball to the side,
that's one and one. Marcus, and then had a really good year for the Mets in 2021.
Slider off the plate, and then moved on to the Cubs for two years before landing with the Yankees.
And now with the injuries to the Yankees, his durability is going to be huge for them.
He threw 155 innings last year, a trade that was his highest since 2018.
Stroman's going to have to get deep into games. Breaking ball outside,
good take there by Alonzo.
To take that 3-2 curve, you said, and even the fastball before it was a close pitch.
Talking, and they just got some depth today. They signed Ryan Yarborough, had
been let go by Tampa Bay. Alonzo will go first to third.
And the Mets have their first base hit of the game. Nemo, who had three hay.
Brandon gets a fastball out over the plate, barrels this, but Pete wisely
sees that the ball gets some of the steam taken off of it, goes first to third.
The Vientos bats with runners at the corners and two down.
It's that cutter on the outside corner, nothing and one.
So anyway, the Yankees, that's going to put a lot of pressure on a bullpen
that has two great pieces at the end with the acquisition of Devin Williams.
To that point, working those fifth, sixth, seventh innings,
when your starter doesn't get deep in the games, that's where the question marks are.
Trying to find a way to bridge the gap between the starter and the back into your bullpen.
The cruiser can throw the ball through a wall, but gives up a lot of home runs. So
those middle innings are going to be iffy.
The fans to see him out there twice in three days coming off of the labrum surgery,
his hip looks like he's two, three inning.
Well, it may take a while to feel better.
Did he miss? He missed that.
Head guards go, but you know, you can't cover your whole leg.
Although it seems sometimes with the armor in the arm,
here's the swing on a cutter in.
Oh, we got the back.
No wonder you didn't get it.
Oh, be messed with.
It is a good pitch.
He's difficult on lefties and as well on righties.
When he can run that thing, it just keeps bearing in on you.
Cabrera convinces Aaron Boone and the trainer that he's OK.
With D.J. LeMay here, Osvaldo and Osvald will share the third base duties,
at least for the time being.
Stearns, from a Mets perspective,
Yankees will be keeping their eye on the waiver wires.
No way Cabrera for the first out.
Yes, Gary alluded to another cutter.
First out of the inning with a strikeout.
We had A.J. on the air after his outing on Saturday.
This is a huge outing for him.
And it's a half swing on the cutter to Pablo Reyes.
And he got into one game as a pinch runner and scored a run.
Hey, Graham, since he didn't get it back, but he did score a run.
I feel like I give him a little bit ahead of Moonlight Graham
since you can fly ball out the right.
Pretty well hit.
Soto back, takes a look and it's out of here.
An opposite field home run for Pablo Reyes.
Reyes' second home run of the spring.
And it's one nothing Yankees.
That swing is A.J.
Give them a fastball in the middle, out over the plate.
And Pablo stays on it.
Looking at the flags to right field.
Slides it out of here.
Now he's found Munguia having a terrific spring.
900 OPS.
He had a great spring with the Giants last year.
But then he went to the minors last year and had a pretty good season.
Not a lot of position players from Nicaragua.
Marvin Bernard from Nicaragua.
Is that possible?
Haven't been many.
Where's the most famous big league games?
Good cutter that Munguia does a good job fouling.
Mr. Renz took a beating yesterday.
Yes, he did.
I don't know how many innings it's going to catch today.
The dirt maybe in front of the plate.
1-2 coming.
There is El Presidente.
The perfect game.
Presidente El Perfecto.
That's.
He was one of those guys you could get too early.
And he'd give up three or four runs in the first inning.
And then he'd go nine.
I remember him.
I know it's a family show.
But it's his.
Big bubble gum in his cheek.
And then.
This will be the ninth pitch coming from Minter to Munguia.
A little short today.
Coming back.
Second time in three days.
I think that even especially after Stanek as well.
I'm just thinking about how if you're evaluating his availability.
To be on the opening day.
Ross Hatterday.
And do you say.
This two out of three.
He's pitching well enough the second day.
To take really long at bat.
I look at this one more as how he would say he feels.
And just his ability to it.
But if not.
With as good as his outing was the other day.
I think just the ability to get up.
This is enough for me.
This will be the 12th pick to run.
But Minter's got his second strikeout.
And they're two away.
And of course it's going to come down to how he feels.
With AJ the other day.
He said.
That.
That hip had been bothering him for three or four years.
The surgery last year which cut his season short.
He was only in 39 games with the Braves.
Testament to him.
But this is again quite a testament.
But you want to make sure you get it right.
So you don't hurt anything else.
Oswald Peraza.
Stroman.
Gets a swinging strike on the sinker.
One at one.
Catch the inside corner against the lefties.
Yes he wants you to give up on it.
And he kind of throws that kind of the kill shot.
The freeze pitch as you said at the front hip.
Good strikeout for Stroman.
One down in the second.
Three days until opening day.
Presented by PNC Bank.
Settled in.
They'll have a workout.
At the newly renamed Dyken Park.
On Wednesday at 10 eastern time.
Thursday afternoon.
If all begins.
Or as they used to say.
Maybe they some Texas with my oldest son.
But we're going to the Rangers Red Sox.
Opening day.
Celebrate my son's birthday.
Killer in Atlanta.
Who's uh who's going opening day for the Rangers?
Is Jake Gisland starting or no?
You know what?
I don't know.
Look now.
Down 0-2.
Takes the cutter for strike three.
So Stroman with three straight.
And gets Marcus gets this.
Cutter out over the plate.
More edge than anything.
Nicely framed by Ascara.
Yeah tasty.
I remember facing Nate.
That makes me feel young.
Or him old.
You can pick.
He's been around for.
I think he started learning his splitter.
If I'm not mistaken.
And it has been a pitch for him that.
Has really.
And Crochet is just fabulous.
The question is how many innings can he throw?
I mean last year when we gave up no runs one hit.
And I don't know whether the Red Sox can have more of a leash on him this year.
Well then you end up in the Sox.
It hardly matters.
Once Crochet left the game.
So did everybody else.
They get their teeth kicked in.
Innings five to six.
To be go through as a player.
Yeah.
41 wins.
More losses.
0-2 coming to Beatty.
And it's out of here.
Brett Beatty with his fourth home run of the spring.
Got that one.
Like a splitter.
Yeah.
Like a splitter that was down a little bit.
Brett.
About the biggest carry on the field.
That was pretty deep right center field on the 0-2 splitter.
There's been one thing that Beatty.
Well then it gives you the opportunity to possibly.
You know get him to the poolside.
But if they happen to beat you.
And get you deep in the zone.
You can still shoot it.
Perhaps remember back to like Francisco Lindor's double yesterday.
Down the left field line.
Like if you get your bat in the zone early.
You can.
Since last year was strengthening his left hand.
To the point where.
He has a little more power with it.
So that could.
Work really.
That it'll go where I want.
Because my right hand right.
I'm right hand dominant.
This goes where I'm more success.
And even more so with Brett.
Being able to make contact.
And hard contact with two strikes.
Well it's been a really good camp for Brett.
And he's going to get the majority of the play of the spring.
With a home run against an established pitcher like Marcus Stroman.
That's going to feel like a nice finish.
Yeah.
Go where you want.
Kind of send that punch right in there.
And then just finish it right through right center field.
And that one had some real takeoff.
And down in the first inning.
This year he had 14 last year.
Probably capable of more than that.
Takes a lengthy lead against side 3-0.
Stroman was vulnerable to tries.
