some of the most gigantic fish you will
ever hook into are located around
bridges that is why Bridge Fishing is
one of my top choices when it comes to
kayak fishing when you consider the size
and power of these fish the structure
that they're swimming in and factor in
that I'm doing this all from a kayak
makes it a super high degree of
difficulty to land these fish but that
won't deter me because I love a good
challenge and as you will see I'm not
afraid to screw up to figure things
out all right good morning guys we are
out at Rocky Bayou bridge this morning
got a beautiful flat calm light North
winds a beautiful
morning we got a box full of fresh dead
blue crabs I've got a few mud crabs in
the bucket here we're just going to drop
down and see if we can catch anything
big at the
bridge for the Blue Crabs today I've got
my Shimano travala jigging rod with my
live liner my pen live liner on here I
like using this for like the big black
drum dropping crabs and stuff let's go
ahead get this guy
ready so when cutting Blue Crabs they
have this little flap on the back the
males and the females both have it and
you just pull that flap back trim it off
and it makes cutting them in half way
easier all
right got crab
ready and when hooking these crabs with
a circle hook I like to break a couple
of the legs off and then go in through
one of the leg Knuckles and then come
out the one next to it all right take
that go in one
knuckle come out the other
knuckle
okay go half a crank keep the weight
off all right we're good when fishing
for black drummer sheep's head around a
bridge it always helps to do a little
chumming but this is not the way to do
it I went about the whole first hour and
a half without getting a bite and I made
the cardinal sin of losing
focus okay we're on we're on so on this
reel I've got mono line on it instead of
braid we're going to see how that works
today yeah oh
boy there's the
wait
oh should have loosened the drag some
damn
it God dang
it oh was out of the structure I should
have loosened
it that was a
monster I got the drag locked
down in case they go straight into the
structure
and you kind of caught me off guard
there I wasn't really thinking dang
it
ah that was my screw up my screw
up okay here we go here we
go let him get it make sure he's got it
good
nope you did not get the
hook all right let's drop it back down
he got the he didn't get the meat you
did not get the
meat
who okay see where this guy's
going so this monofilament line was
making it tough to horse the
fish so my thinking was that the
monofilament line will provide abrasion
resistance when these fish get get into
the pilings but what was happening was
it was allowing way too much
stretch all
right leave that meat on there hook it
again there we go all
right
oh here we go here we
go these giant fish are so powerful just
look how quickly the fish turns the
kayak
around come on get out of there stay
away from
there
oh he's trying to go back the other way
all
right keep working
them
dang it I really thought I had that one
but I guess he got a second wind they're
whooping me this
morning let's go back over
here let's do it like this
that one we had him he
just he got over and he just cut the
leader like right on the piling so he
barely got past the piling but once they
get on it you're pretty much toast
unless you can figure out exactly which
one they're on and you
can go through there but man it's so
tough
there we
go all right we're on now oh yeah this
is a big
boy got to keep him centered keep him in
the center of the
kayak
oh yeah that's a good
one oh
yeah
finally
woo
jeez that took long enough guys how many
how many fish did I have to go through
jeez
Louise all
right yeah this is a good one let's see
here that's a nice one not a giant I
know I've hooked bigger ones today but
we're going to let him
go he is gone all right
our last two halves of
crab I know what you guys are going to
say why don't you loosen your drag and
let them run and not put all that
tension on
them I've tried that
here and these fish are so smart they
know they head immediately to the
pilings to wrap you up and to break you
off you notice not a single one of these
fish has headed out to open water
water all of
them have headed straight to the
pilings so your best bet is lock down
drag stay mobble in the
kayak so you can use the petals to put
more tension on the fish and just try to
use pressure to keep them away from the
pilings once they get into them your toe
I mean I've got mono on here but still I
mean these oysters are so
sharp and the pilings have just so
much sharp stuff barnicles rough edges I
mean you pretty
much can't get let the fish get to the
pilot so we got two halves
left
okay here we
go did he take
it I don't even know if he's got
it yeah he's got it he's got
it God
dang
hook
pulled
jeez all right guys I think we're going
to call it a day we're going to come
back tomorrow
morning uh I'll be a little more
prepared I'm going to beef up my gear a
little bit I mean I was expecting 20 to
30 lb black drums but uh I think several
of these I hooked today were way over
that
so uh I'm going to come back with some
50 lb
braid all right
guys I'm back at the scene of the crime
from
yesterday a little
different strong East Winds choppy water
and we got severe storms rolling in
around
lunch so you can
tell I beefed up my gear
today I brought my
avit I brought my
Saltiga and I brought my floor flid to
fishing products on the teramar the
6000
so all of these have braid on
them it just seemed like yesterday I
thought the all mono would be good here
because of how often those black drum
run into the pilings thought it would
help with the brachion
resistance but there was just way too
much
stretch even with the drag lock down I
think they were stretching that line out
and getting to the pilings before I
could do anything
so probably going to have some break
offs
today uh with the braid but I should
have better luck horsing those guys so
we're going to come over do some
chumming lost my scraper yesterday so
had to bring a
uh hammer
but anyways we're going to get over here
and we're going to get
started okay first drop I hooked up on
the 8ft teramar rod but I got broke off
and I didn't want to make you guys sit
through another break off switch to the
Saltiga we'll have a lot more control
over
this a Long Rod gave that fish too much
Leverage
all right this one's kind of small here
let's just use the whole
thing they'll save a lot of the meat
from
getting pulled out by pinfish and stuff
I have found that when you get the
smaller Blue Crabs cutting the legs off
and using the crab hole it really lasts
a lot longer and the smaller black drum
have trouble fitting the whole crab in
their mouth all right
all right here we go getting a bite I
think oh yeah all right I changed up my
tactics today and decided to leave the
line in free spool until I was out away
and clear the pilings that way I could
pull the fish directly away from the
structure and not giving him that room
he needed to swim into the
pilings so as soon as I was clear I
locked the drag down and went to
work come
on all right I got him
out
all right loose some drag just a
little got him out of
there oh he's trying to go back
now
yeah the braid is definitely the way to
go oh boy I just saw him Flash
it's a good
one oh my
gosh oh yeah this is going to be my PB
that's for sure
100% oh boy thing
massive God come on
ah all right braid was definitely the
way to
go look at him look at him oh oh my
God
lad
lad had to bring out the heavy gear
but oh my word holy
crap
oh hooks free
yeah golly see if we can get him out of
the
net what who about to lose my
net I always clamp on my
thumb how's that for a big boy oh yeah
ha finally been trying to catch one of
these big beasts look at that tail all
right we're going to let him go I think
he's
ready oh yeah swimming right
off
wo I love
it when a plane comes
together all right that worked really
good if you didn't see what I
did I left it in free
spool
and backed all the way out here
so he was going to have to drag the
kayak against the
current to get into the pilings so that
worked out
perfect hook still
good all right there's another good hole
one there we go
Perfect all
right oh damn already
on where's he
at okay let's
go ah all right I got him coming out I
got him coming out he's swimming with me
swimming with me he's GNA try and
turn
all feels good but may not be as big as
the last one oh maybe he's turning
me
God these fish oh what
happened the hook
pulled should have loosen the drag up
some God dang
it
dang
it had him I had him 100%
whooped okay here we
go
is he on or am
I yep he is oh
boy get him out here I'll loosen the
drag come on keep coming keep coming
keep coming loosen the drag a little
oh not that
much oh God this guy's
strong we're going to have to get him
way
out come on keep cruising
buddy all
right all right now loosen it a
little it's coming
up going
down oh I just got a glimpse he is
pretty dang big might be bigger than
that last one I
landed
oh oh did you see that oh my God it is
bigger than the last
one oh oh
oh oh my God all
right
oh woo all right
let's see if I can get the hook
out all right I'm going to have to bring
him in hopefully I can do without
tipping oh he just broke my net
he's so
heavy oh
wow holy
cow oh all right now let's see about
getting oh that hook wasn't coming
loose
holy oh all right let's
see
look H holy
cow how big is that wow all right let's
see if he's
ready
oh oh
yeah I was going to try and revive him
but I guess he didn't need it he SAR
right off all right guys it's getting
really nasty out I'm going to head in uh
I hope you enjoyed the video I learned a
lot the past two days uh about fishing
this
spot and uh the best way to do it that's
usually how I learned things trial and
error so uh hope you guys enjoyed it uh
