VIDEO: Police use drone to rescue 3 deer trapped in icy lake

it's an ice rescue operation you don't see every day on Saturday afternoon a passer by reported deer had fallen through the ice of Big Green Lake we've done a lot of human rescues looking for people lost people um search and rescue stuff accident scene crashes never done one uh doing a her deer drive with a drone but the footage obtained exclusively by action 2 news shows a do and her two FS treading in nearly 40 ft of water 200 yards out from Shore the deer trying to get back onto any solid ice grabbing anything they could but we're heading further away in the opposite direction detective Josh Ward with the Green Lake County Sheriff's Office says because deer are afraid of people it prompted a different kind of rescue if we came from the shoreline with a boat they're just going to try and get away and you're you're actually doing more harm than good because you're pushing them further and for away from Shore we couldn't come in from the water side because that's obviously all froze over with the help of a drone and some creative thinking detective Ward was able to Corral the deer veering them closer to shore I'm thinking that drone if I can do it it's easy enough that I can just bring it around and do a cattle drive but for deer and just use the prop wash or the Drone to motivate them detective Ward says windy conditions made flying the Drone a challenge especially so close up to the deer to motivate them to shore rescuing the third deer proved to be tricky With the Wind Shifting the ice on the lake and the deer not having the energy to get over the rocks to detective Ward once again leading the deer back to land with the Drone before the deer was roped into Shore we were able to get her up over the top of the Rocks uh where we then pulled her to dry land and she laid down for a little bit uh had to conserve some energy and then ultimately just met up with her with her mother and off they went with some outside the box thinking deputies safely rescued all three deer in an hour detective Ward calling it one of the most creative rescues the sheriff's office has had for
