What's up guys, we're here in Mostar and in this video we're going to show you our top things to do here, so hope you enjoy it.
The beautiful city of Mostar is located in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Rich in history and stunning architecture, this is the most popular place to visit in the entire
country. Beyond that, Mostar enjoys spectacular natural surroundings and year-round sunny weather.
In this video, we highlight 10 of the best things to do in and around Mostar. Now let's dive in.
We are Zach and Ina. We make helpful videos about destinations around the world so you can easily
plan your own adventures. The heart of Mostar lies in its charming old town, a UNESCO World
Heritage Site that's been rebuilt several times throughout history. It's a labyrinth of cobblestone
streets lined with traditional Ottoman houses, vibrant bazaars filled with handicrafts, picturesque
mosques, traditional cafes, and cozy restaurants. The iconic old bridge or Stari Most stands at the
center of it all and is a true masterpiece of Ottoman architecture. Here, you can watch as
locals jump off the bridge into the Naretva River in a traditional routine. A guided walking tour
is the perfect way to immerse yourself in the city's rich history.
We left a link to the one we joined in the description below the video.
While the Stari Most gets most of the attention, Mostar's crooked bridge offers a more intimate
experience. This charming stone bridge was built during the Ottoman era and is known for its
distinctive curve. Though less famous than its larger counterpart, the crooked bridge is said to
be the oldest stone arch bridge in Mostar. Situated just outside Mostar's old town, the Sniper
Tower is one of many bullet-riddled buildings in the city. This old bank building gained notoriety
during the Bosnian War, when its height and strategic location made it an ideal sniper post.
Today, the tower has been preserved as a memorial to the victims of the conflict.
The tower's walls are scarred by bullet holes and adorned with graffiti and murals. While it's not
allowed to enter inside the building, just seeing it from the outside is an experience in itself.
Located about an hour drive from Mostar, Kravica is a stunning waterfall on the Trebizad River.
During the summer months, it's a very popular swimming spot with large crowds, music, and a
However, the rest of the year offers a more peaceful and secluded experience with few facilities.
You can easily get here via a short but fairly steep trail from the parking lot,
but there's also a paid shuttle service for those with mobility issues.
Located in the center of Mostar, the Museum of War and Genocide Victims explains what
happened during the Bosnian War, which ravaged the country from 1992 to 1995.
This museum is housed in a small building and showcases a collection of artifacts
and personal items, including photographs, videos, and documents. Survivors' testimonies
also tell the harrowing stories of those who suffered during the conflict. There's also a
colorful wall inside where you can write your own note of support or showcase your feelings.
The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and charges a small entrance fee.
Just behind the museum, you can also find a large gravesite,
and most of the death dates here are marked between 1992 and 1995.
One of the best ways to experience Mostar's culture is through its delicious cuisine.
The Old Town is dotted with amazing restaurants and cafes that offer a variety of traditional
Bosnian dishes. You should definitely try cevapi, a popular grilled meat dish served
with onions and bread. Sarma is another popular local dish, and dolma was one of our personal
favorites. You can also pair your meal with a classic Bosnian coffee or a glass of local beer
or wine. Find a link to our blog post in the description below the video
for some of our personal restaurant recommendations.
Only a 40-minute drive from Mostar, Poçitel is a picturesque Ottoman town nestled on a hill
overlooking the Nuretva River. Celebrated for its architectural beauty and historical significance,
this town is filled with quiet cobblestone streets and stone buildings that date back centuries.
A walk through its narrow lanes is not only a journey back in time, but also a scenic experience.
The views get even better the higher you go. The town is scenic from a lot of different angles,
but the best view is definitely from the bastion, so it is worth climbing up the steps to get here.
Fortiza Park is located on a 500 meter tall hill overlooking Mostar, offering a scenic and
accessible experience. Whether you choose to drive, take a taxi, or embark on a hike from
the old town, the journey here is well worth the effort. Once there, you'll be rewarded with
breathtaking panoramic views of the city, the Nuretva River, and the surrounding countryside.
Relax on the skywalk viewing platform, quench your thirst at the bar, or indulge in the thrill
of ziplining or via ferrata nearby. It's also a great place to watch the sunset from.
For the most breathtaking scenes of Mostar's old town and Stary Most, explore the city's
various viewpoints. The beach below the bridge offers a serene setting to admire its graceful
arch. But for a panoramic perspective, head to Kuyun Zhiluk, a charming street with traditional
souvenir shops. For the absolute best views, walk to the viewing platform behind the main mosque.
You can also climb the minaret here and be rewarded with stunning 360 degree views of the
city and its iconic bridge. There is a small entrance fee to access the mosque and viewing
platform. Blagaj is a charming small town just a 20 minute drive from Mostar. Nestled at the
source of the Buna River, this town is known for its stunning natural beauty. Here, the river flows
through a picturesque gorge and is crowned by a 16th century dervish monastery on its riverbanks,
which was considered a place of spiritual retreat and reflection. The area is also dotted with
traditional restaurants offering fresh fish. If you're in this area, we definitely recommend doing
the 10-minute boat tour into the cave because it's really informative and the views are amazing.
So guys, as you can see, it's not a very big cave to explore with the boat,
but it's very fascinating. By the capacity of water, it's the biggest
part of drinkable water in Europe. Local people will say it's a holy water in one way.
Sometimes we see people still coming for their prayers, they are still keeping their tradition active.
