Hello beautiful people and welcome back to creating with Mimi. Today we are all
about the outdoor for Christmas this year and so far I've taken down what I
had up for spring through the summer and now I am getting ready to handle and
tackle Christmas. So I'll talk about different tips that you can use in order
to get set up for Christmas already. Number one is have a theme in mind and
so I didn't necessarily have a theme but I do have a color and I want a punch of
color but I want it to be kind of like peacefully designed and simplistically
elegant. I think it's what I'm looking for so I will use my vases that I have
here. The same vases that I had out for spring because this year we're all
about not necessarily making a big fuss for Christmas but to get Christmas set
up whereas I'm enjoying the year but I do want something different so I can't
wait to get started. First I'm going to start off with my rug selection. I will
be replacing the spring rug and I'm and I will reincorporate a black and white
rug because it kind of ties in with this black and white theme so I will
start with that first. This hello rug has saved my indoor carpet so much because
of the type of fabric this is. I will link this below because I absolutely love
it. I would love to purchase two to three more but they were sold out when I
tried to purchase more because it is a large it's a six foot rug and it's just
perfect. Let me sweep this off.
The second tip is to declutter this space which I've already completed that
portion so that I'm starting from scratch. I literally was not sure about
what it was I wanted for this front porch this year but I think I've come up
with something that I can really get behind and enjoy. We've talked about this
spray. This spray is so amazing. It literally keeps all of the bugs from
entering the ants, spiders, your house. I have this linked in my storefront. I can't
get enough of it. Here's the thing and I really don't know why other than the
color. I'm standing on limestone and so in the winter the worms come up on the
front on this front portico area and the spray stops it. The worms don't go past
the outer walkway areas so that's why I'm spraying again this winter so I
spray twice a year. I spray in after spring and I spray in the winter and the
winter is to keep the worms from entering this portico area. And so since
I'm going with a black and white color theme the front of the house is black
and white. I am going to roll this outdoor black and white rug here and
it's going to be gorgeous.
And I used to place a huge 8x10 outdoor rug outside. I no longer do it because
only a portion of this is covered and so when it rains the rug gets wet and it
looks really gooky.
Designer tip. When you're unfolding a rug and the ends are curled up the opposite
way you take about eight inches of the end of the rug and you fold it inward
and then lay it on the ground for about maybe an hour. Sometimes it's only 30
minutes and you will no longer have that curl on the end of your rug.
Tip is to make sure that you secure. I'm going to place a tree inside of this
planter so I want to make sure I secure it because the wind is going to be
blowing. There's a couple ways to do it. I could actually take wire and try to
affix it and get it into the dirt. I'm just going to place sandbag to weigh it
down so that it's affixed and it's not going to move. I think. Guess what guys?
We're gonna try it and see if it works but I think it will.
So I have four trees to pull out and stuff. Fluff up. So I decided to pull them
out here and then once they're fluffed I'll sit them inside of the different
they're in the positions that I want them to be in. Now I will add the extra
twinkle lights on to the tree and I have four trees in which to do that with.
Now it's time to bring in some of the accents that I'm going to use outside.
And this is the first year that I'm using this type of goat stem outside so
I'm not really sure how it's gonna do. Hopefully they won't get ruined. It
should be okay but we're gonna see. And I need to always have some type of crown.
Well I don't always need to have a crown but for this year's decor most of
the trees that are green trees they have a crown. And I'm spreading this out to
get full coverage. This is what it looks like when it's not spread out and this
is what it looks like when you spread it out. Each limb on the stem has wires.
All right guys I will continue on with my crowns for all four trees because
we're gonna do something that's matchy-matchy this year. I want a full
impact for having something that you use one but you use it massively so they
intensify the effect. All right we are going to start with our bulbs. I have
placed the headers on each one of the trees. Now we'll start with putting our
bulbs on. So the next tip is to add your largest bulbs first and since this is
outdoors I want to add a bulb that is pretty substantial and I will work with
the color green. So these will be our main colors that I will be working with
is this green. I want to do something super super fast. I decided to make
clusters with the colors that I'm using and this is a great designer tip when
you want to decorate fast you have a lot that you want to use. I decided to make
these clusters. They're gonna give me such a huge impact.
I'll bring in the gold cluster and I'll fill in areas with the gold.
So I've added three small gold clusters, three small green clusters and then one
larger gold cluster here. That looks really good. I've already decided that I
wanted to have four trees to flank this area. Four large trees and I shouldn't
say large because these are the pencil trees that I use all the time to make it
simple and easy and they are seven foot pencil trees. So I've already incorporated
those. I am using my existing vases that I've had, the planters that I've had here
before from spring and that fabulous pink front porch entry. So I didn't
really want to change that much this year. So these trees I've placed them
around to flank. So I have four. One, two, three, four and it just acts as a base
for this entire portico area. By landing the four trees it acts as a focal point.
Immediately when you walk up the focal point are the four trees and my large
deer. So I've created a focal point and a base for what it is that I'm doing this
year.
Next step, mix textures and materials together and I have mixed textures with
textures in the gold bulbs, the green. Some of the green are smooth smooth and
some of them are rough. I have frosted and I've also mixed colors. So you'll see
that but the combination is if there is a textured or smooth in terms of the
bulbs and different colors it still has the same elements, i.e. the texture in the
gold, the smooth and then more texture here. The other texture that I've added
is the texture at the crown of the tree which is a gold stem that acts as a
eye-opener and a wow moment and so that texture it's different. I'm mixing it but
it does complement the gold bulb which has a sprinkle and mix texture effect as
well. Next step, add to and build upon your theme and the base items that
you've already chosen, i.e. I know that this gold deer is absolutely stunning
but I don't want to place her by herself. So I will add different things
and elements, i.e. this gorgeous bow and this is a bow that I'm reusing quite
frankly. I am reusing this bow from I don't know how many years ago. So I want
to bring in the element of the green just enhancing it even more by placing a
green bow on this gorgeous deer. So let's give a friend to this space and I
want to place that a little bit central underneath the existing deer. I'll deal
with all the plugs later. Underneath the existing deer but down below so what I'm
creating currently is layers. I've got my top layers with the trees surrounding my
focal point and then I bring it down a little bit here bringing it down one
more notch and creating a layer. So I like to decorate and we all like to
decorate in threes right but look how fabulous this looks just adding a few
more layers and this isn't finished yet. I believe I want to add one more deer
and she's gorgeous to this side and maybe place her right here. See what that
looks like. Okay that's very very unique and you guys see how I'm creating
balance and flow with the decor. I've got the deer on this side I've added a third
deer over here and now I want to address open areas. So this is the base for what
it is that I'm doing. The next thing I'll do is add and address any open areas
that I think need a little bit extra.
Okay since I've added a beautiful bow here and green is my theme I just made
this bow and I'll show you guys a close-up of it and it's simply gorgeous
and what I like about a good well-made bow no matter which way you turn it it
still looks as though it's in a good direction. So I want to add this here
just to dress up the front. Although I've already made this bow I want to show you
guys how I finished it off with this and I've used this before on a in the
kitchen. I think it was last year when I made that beautiful kitchen box display
and I'll insert a few pictures for you to see that out of this and all it is
it's so super inexpensive but it gives a huge impact. Large. You can see what it
did. Look at this tree on this side it has nothing but the gold deer. This one
over here already has the bow so you can see the impact of what it does without
the bow versus placing a bow there so we're adding layers and elements and
this comes in different sizes this is in probably this is a two foot size and I'm
just gonna take it take one end of it scrunch it and create a loop which is my
first bow. Twist it and create another loop.
That overall fussy look. It's so puffy. I will layer this on top. This is the
original green bow and keep in mind that this bow is a mixture of materials and
it doesn't even matter. The green here is not the same as the green on this
side and place it here on this end and that is gorgeous.
So if you're wondering why I haven't placed any ribbon on this deer it's
because I don't want it to be over impact. You want to give each decor area
a chance to breathe. Everything is so dramatic and impactful that you don't
have a chance just to breathe and take in some of the simple beauty that is
displayed. I want to address some open spaces that I do have and I'll identify
them. This is an open area. This is an open area. There's an open area here and
another open area. It is okay to have open areas but you want to make sure
that you're incorporating a full design theme and a full decor from top to
bottom left to right. I will place this tree I believe here. This tree is a small
lighted box tree. I've painted the bottom of the box black to tie in with the
black vases that I have here. Very, very simple. The next tip is to add seasonal
decor and I believe I want to start with this beautiful baby here and I think
that is so gorgeous. Wow, that's perfect. So now I only have one other area on
this side to address and I will finish that with this.
Perfecto. So this complements. Look how well this looks together. I'm gonna place
this a little bit closer to the original bell. So now I've created that triangle
effect. The tree, the large bell and the smaller bell and it's perfect. I've even
added space in between so that the eye can rest.

Angels we have heard on high, sweetly singing o'er the plains. And the mountains in
reply, echoing their joyous strains.
Gloria, in excelsis Deo.
Shepherds, why this jubilee? Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be? Which inspire your happy song?
Gloria, in excelsis Deo.
