Krik of Black Owl Outdoors reviews the Mora Companion Heavy Duty MG knife, with emphasis on heavy duty. While it has similar styling to the Mora Companion MG, the heavy duty boasts a thicker blade and bigger handle. For only about $5 more than the Mora Companion, the Mora Companion MG Heavy Duty is well worth the extra coin.
Hey Turtles, it's Crick here with Black Owl Outdoors and today I'm going to be doing a review on the Mora Companion Heavy Duty.
The knife comes in a military green plastic molded sheath.
It's a friction lock sheath.
Overall length, 8.86 ounces.
Blade length, a little over 4, I think 4.09 inches.
It's a high carbon steel, 3 quarter tang.
Weight, 4.8 ounces.
And there's a rubber handle, which is pretty effective.
I'll show you some of the close ups.
Now on the sheath here, where my thumb is moving, is this little nub that helps assist when pulling the knife out of the sheath from the friction lock.
It's not really necessary, it's not being held in by so much force, but it's a nice little feature to help pull out.
It's a Scandinavian grind on the knife.
The blade thickness, .126 inches.
And I actually have done a review on just the regular Companion, not the Heavy Duty.
I'm going to show you some of the slight differences.
And the first thing I notice, I don't know if it will pick it up so much on the camera, is the size of the handle on the Heavy Duty.
Here's the Heavy Duty, and here's just the regular Companion.
And the handle is definitely thicker on the Heavy Duty.
It weighs more than the regular Companion.
And the thickness of the blade is increased with the Heavy Duty in my left hand.
You can see that.
And it's a tad bit longer.
The Heavy Duty is a tad bit longer than the regular Companion.
And the Heavy Duty retails, I think $19.99, somewhere around $20.00.
It's a great deal, like all Mora's, it's a great buy, great quality knife for the price.
Just to show you some of the cutting, show you how sharp it comes from the factory, like I do on all my knives.
Let's grab a little sticker here.
And what's great about all Mora's, I'll just keep saying it until I'm blue in the face, is they come sharp from the factory, razor sharp.
This high carbon steel comes very sharp from the factory.
And it's Mora's, the sweetest company.
I have no problems buying from not a U.S. manufacturer or company because I know it's quality, it's coming from people made in Sweden.
So it's a great addition to any survival kit you want to have, a car kit, just for an inexpensive knife that has quality.
Buying an extra one or just throwing it in a pack you don't touch or makes for a great gift for someone.
Like I said, in a car kit, it's a Mora.
What you expect from a Mora is what you get from a Mora.
So this is the Mora Heavy Duty Companion, this is Crick signing out with Black Isle Outdoors.
Stay safe turtles.
