Right, so I'm going to try and do a video diary of this next adventure.
See how it goes. I hope you just sort of do a bit every day.
So we're ready to leave the yard now finally. I've got everything I need I believe apart
from some AdBlue. I'll just have to quickly stop and fill that up and then head off for Dover and
the ferry. The yard's pretty busy at the moment actually. I don't think I can get the AdBlue.
Probably not. This is a good start isn't it. Let's give it a try.
Right, try again.
Bloody hell. So, Dover, then head down to Switzerland to load on Friday.
how many we rack up on this then.
Right, we're now leaving Stradbroke so I shall speak to you in a bit.
Well, now approaching Dover, gateway to Europe and beyond. I don't know if there's a ferry in,
there's a P&O in, but I'm going on DFDS. I like the smell.
So I think the next one is at six o'clock so I've got a little bit of time to play with.
But then all I've got to do really is get across the water and
just do a couple of hours really.
It's a days drive from Calais down to Aisne, Switzerland where I'm going and
so I just have to try and find somewhere quite nice to park up before everywhere gets full,
which can be the biggest problem. It'll be interesting to see if the roadworks are still
on in the docks. I'm sure there was some last time I came out.
It's been quite an uneventful drive down really. The A14 came to a standstill as soon as I joined
it. Other than that, that's the only hold-up, which is nice. The M25 is running nice and
smoothly for once. I seem to have a bit of hay fever, that's the only other major thing to report.
on the P&O ferry this morning, so it's all sort of stemmed from that, these problems,
apparently. So I'm on the 20 past six ferry, so I'm just now heading for my lane and
A bit of a palaver yesterday with the ferries after they caught some immigrants
in a tanker. It sort of set everything back quite a bit, so I lost a fair bit of time, but
I got parked up near to a ream somewhere and nine hours off and off we go again. So I've done
three hours today, just come off the motorway. Now I'm going to come across the E19,
just sort of heading down towards Belfort and that sort of general area. I'll have to stop in
about an hour and finish my break. It's a lovely day today, it's about 22 degrees at the moment
and this is a great national road to come down. It's good moving, some very nice sights as well
on it now and again. Maybe not a 2CV, you can't have it all, can you? So I'll just do a little
bit of filming along here I think and just see what I can find. Probably not a great deal. Now
I've said it's really nice, it's also a good road at night because it's nice and quiet.
They're putting a bit of dual carriageway in at the other end down towards Belfort
and whatnot, which helps speed things up even more as well. There's a few routiers along here,
I've stopped in one before, that's just the way it's sort of gone really.
It does seem to be quite a popular route with trucks. I should be getting into Switzerland
probably around probably about six o'clock time I guess, something like that, once I've done customs
and faffed about. So off to the pizzeria up the road, pizza, just a couple of beers and
go to bed and have a nice long evening. Unfortunately my phone went forward an hour
during the night so my alarm went off an hour early than what I was expecting so
that's a nice way to start the day. Plenty of time to sleep tonight and tomorrow.
There's a couple of small towns along here which get a bit narrow.
I was going to do a bit of filming last night but I didn't realise I left the camera running
and so obviously it went flat and then it wouldn't charge as it was filming so I just gave up.
I think it's probably what this whole diary thing is going to be like if I manage to
sort it all out. It's going to be full of me being pretty rubbish with technology.
A lot of the national roads have got weight limits on them and whatnot. Just to break up
the journey occasionally and this cuts off quite a bit of time and kilometres, this route.
I normally use this heading down to Switzerland.
Well, customs formalities done.
It's now only a short hop down to Clare Brothers.
Although I'm going to hit all the foul rush hour traffic I expect looking at the times.
It's now sort of half five-ish.
It's about 15km to Clare Brothers roughly from here. I'm going to try and film the whole journey.
It shouldn't take long. It's all going well.
I would have thought they'd be gone home by the time I get there which really isn't a problem.
Here comes a queue.
This is the final approach to Aiche and it's only a couple of minutes down the road here.
The motorway wasn't too bad in the end.
It's a nice little town. It's just quite expensive like the rest of Switzerland really.
But where we're going, it's nice and quiet apart from the railway line.
Nice and secure.
On our kind.
Certainly doesn't seem it but just down here, that's where I'm turning left.
When I first came here I really thought that I'd gone completely and utterly wrong.
Is the car going to hold back?
A lovely day for a bit of alfresco diving anyway.
27 degrees.
Spot on.
Here we are, home for the night.
It's getting pretty quiet.
Take this first bay I think.
Tip tonight, load in the morning.
Super duper.
