The Sanctuary of Guadalupe or Temple of San Diego, located in Morelia, Mich. is an 18th century construction with a sober baroque façade. Its construction lasted 8 years, starting in 1708 and concluding in 1716, (it belonged to the Franciscan Order of the Dieguinos (OFD)).
The characteristic that makes this temple special is its interior, magnificently decorated by the local artisan Joaquín Orta in 1915, full of diverse floral forms where pink, red and gold colors predominate. The opulent decoration that can be seen on walls, vaults and domes is a combination of the clay sculpture technique of the indigenous tradition with the European plaster technique.
This ornamentation is in contrast with the main altar that has a neoclassical cut with Corinthian columns that strengthen the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe that is in the center.
