A clan of spotted hyenas and one lone black-backed jackal converge around a fallen giraffe (same one the elephants were chasing the hyenas away from in a previous video) The feast continued well into the night! Filmed in the Sabi Sand Nature Reserve, Greater Kruger National Park, South Africa
About Rob The Ranger Wildlife Videos: The purpose of the channel is to show what it is like to experience seeing wild animals on an African safari. Nature Documentaries are often highly edited to tell a story, wildlife safaris are not, and the idea here is to show the wildlife sightings the way they were seen. Safari tours in Africa are generally suitable for all ages and this channel can be considered an educational channel about incredible nature, some scenes in the nature videos may be more graphic than people are used to but this is the reality of nature and is what you would see if you were present on such a safari in person. Safaris in Kenya, South Africa, or any other African country are an unrivalled experience for anyone with a passion for nature, wildlife photography, and travel. Hopefully the animal videos on this channel can provide a glimpse into what the nature experience is like and encourage more people to take a wildlife safari one day. hi I'm Rob the Ranger that's enough
about me let's look at some animals
flies buzzing around there will be feel
carefully inside you'll find some of
them
[Music]
are they're always very alert listening
what's going on everywhere there was
another one lying up further back we
only had to hear the other night as well
that there's this so much meat here for
them they don't have to eat very much
see no one else to show I'm completely
unconcerned by the hyena who's much
bigger than he is
very cool
a mantra drove it over at the quarry
it's pretty cool it's very very scared
of the high in it so it's hungry so it's
gonna take the risk the only we see
sighs trap jackals in the area rather
than black-backed because the
black-backed have to compete with
animals such as hyenas they're not as
common black back to Jekyll
yeah let's play two players with at
least four different plans in the area
[Music]
honey they're in the background
so both of these animals are often very
negatively portrayed in the media the
jackals always portrayed as being a sly
slinky sort of conniving little creature
and their pain is always portrayed as
being a a smelly coward
both jackals and hyenas hunt their own
food
both jackals and hyenas hunt their own
food they don't have to rely on
scavenging off carcasses like this both
lions and leopards will also scavenge
off a carcass like they don't only hunt
food so all the big predators scavenge
except for maybe the hope that the
cheetah and all the big predators hunt
so no one is better than the other they
all do the same thing some of them do it
in different ways and some of them do it
more efficiently and the Heian is
actually one of the most efficient
predators know how you know hunts like a
lion does but it has a higher success
rate at hunting it scavengers like to
lined us but it has better equipped jaws
to scavenge so it can get more of a meal
from a carcass than a lion could
actually a more well-organized social
structure and they have a higher
survival rate their Cubs because Lions
have pretty hair they're always the good
guys in the stories and the hyenas are
always the bad guys in the stories
again the jackals also hunt they hunt
small things so they don't get really
seen you know hunting so again they're
because they're often spotted scavenging
at a carcass like this and sneaking
around and avoiding the others so
they're portrayed as being sneaky
being clever he's just having trouble
getting in a mouthful bull burger shot
is so small and the meats so tough
is the jackal in the Canaan yes such a
jackal is staying around for that
[Music]
everyone who's would be animated
[Music]
the scars on this Alana's face
this is behind the treatment they have a
hierarchy within within the clan so it
doesn't work on size it's on birthright
[Music]
females will inherit a ranking from
their mother depending on their age and
that's ranking will stay with them
throughout their life and this they can
somehow overthrow the ruling family but
because they get an individual ranking
if you have two females born in the same
litter which obviously can happen they
will try and kill each other from birth
instinctively 3 hyah
to be on the tree there so younger ones
so won't they also compete with the big
ones so we're finished
after become knowledge
getting right inside the draw
I was right
Oh
lots coming
we'll anything to eat the legs yes the
photo shows all that will be left when
they finished greeting each other with
hyenas you can't tell whether it's male
or female by looking at the dangly bits
because they both have very similar
looking genitals and they will greet
each other by sniffing and looking for
those similar looking genitals
he's looking at us actually
Oh utilizing
[Music]
