Once upon a time, in a small village, surrounded by mountains, lived a young boy named Rohan.
He was an ordinary boy, not exceptionally talented or the best at anything, but he had a habit
that made him unhappy. He always compared himself to others. Whenever he saw a boy with a strong body,
he would think, I wish I were stronger than him. If he saw a rich boy, he would think,
I wish I had as much money as him. Whenever he saw an intelligent classmate getting praised,
he wished to be as smart. If someone sang beautifully, he longed to have a voice like
Because of this habit, Rohan often felt sad, believing that he was not good enough.
Over time, this habit grew stronger. He started avoiding people and spending time alone,
always thinking about what he lacked. One day, while walking near a forest
outside his village, he saw an old monk sitting quietly by a river. The monk looked peaceful,
his eyes closed in meditation, and a gentle smile on his face. Curious, Rohan went to him
and sat beside him. After a while, the monk opened his eyes. Rohan bowed and said,
Master, you seem so happy and peaceful, but I am always unhappy. Everyone else seems
to have something better than me. Why life is so unfair to me? The monk smiled and handed Rohan
three different seeds, a lily flower seed, a mango seed, and a bamboo seed.
I will give you a simple answer, the monk said, plant these seeds in the soil and take care of
them. Come back after one month. Rohan took the seeds and planted them as instructed.
He watered them daily and eagerly waited for them to grow. After a month, he returned to the monk
and said, Master, the lily seed has grown and bloomed with beautiful flowers. The mango seed
has also sprouted, but it is small, but the bamboo seed has not grown at all.
The monk nodded and asked, Okay, do you think the bamboo seed is useless just because it has
not sprouted yet? Rohan thought for a moment and replied, Maybe it is just slow to grow.
The monk smiled and said, Exactly, the lily blooms quickly and adds beauty to the world.
The mango tree takes longer, but one day it will bear delicious fruits. The bamboo takes the
longest. It stays unclouded for years, growing its fruits, but when the time is right, it grows
taller and stronger than the others. Each plant has its own time and purpose. Would it make sense
for the mango to be jealous of the lily or for the bamboo to feel bad because it has not grown yet?
Rohan shook his head, understanding the lesson. The lily brings beauty, the mango gives fruit,
and the bamboo grows strong. All are different but important in their own way, the monk explained.
You are also like one of these plants. Some people succeed early, like the lily,
some take time to achieve big things, like the mango. Others may take years to grow,
like the bamboo, but they become strong and unshakeable. No one is useless. Everyone has
a purpose. You too have your own special path. So stop comparing yourself with others and focus
on your own growth. One day your time will also come. Rohan's eyes brightened with realization.
He finally understood the monk's point. From that day on, he stopped comparing himself
with others. Instead, he started appreciating his own strengths and worked hard without jealousy.
He knew that, just like the bamboo, he too would grow and succeed at the right time.
If we see in our life, we will find that we often keep comparing ourselves with others,
wishing that we were smarter, richer, stronger, or more talented like others. But just like the
lily, mango, and bamboo, each person has their own path, their own time to grow, and their own
purpose. The lily blooms early, the mango takes time to bear fruit, and the bamboo takes years
to develop strong roots before growing tall. Similarly, some people achieve success quickly,
while others take time to grow and flourish. Comparing ourselves to others only brings
dissatisfaction and unhappiness. Instead of focusing on what we lack, we should recognize
our unique qualities and strengths. True happiness comes when we accept our journey
and trust that our time will come. Just because we don't see progress immediately does not mean
we are failing. It only means we are preparing for something greater. If we constantly compare
our lives with others, we will always feel we are missing something. But when we focus on our
own growth, we become content and peaceful. The key to a happy and fulfilled life is understanding
that everyone has a different timeline and purpose. Like the bamboo, we must have patience
and faith in our own journey, and success will come when it is your time.
