March is a paradox. Everything appears to be unfolding quickly but even with a lot of noise, we are just moving in circles. Although combative Mars turned direct on February 23, it remains in cautious Cancer and inches along quite slowly all month. Captivating Venus is stationary retrograde on March 1 and falls back 12 degrees by April 1. Meanwhile, communicator Mercury starts the month in celestial Pisces, jumps into cantankerous Aries on March 3, turns retrograde on March 14, and ends the month back in Pisces only one degree from its starting point. The outer planets, too, make very little progress, leaving us with a month of surprisingly few planetary aspects. Chaos and confusion are likely to trigger complex conversations or impulsive decisions, especially as we focus on relationship matters and financial affairs. Reflecting on the lessons learned from our past and taking accountability for our mistakes offer us an opportunity for growth and evolution.

Ironically, there is still plenty of action in the cosmos this month. Eclipse season is upon us with the Lunar Eclipse at the Virgo Full Moon on March 13 at 11:54 pm PDT. Authoritative restraint is apparent from the Moon’s opposition to sobering Saturn while its trine to shocking Uranus suggests many surprises are in store for us. The Aries New Moon on March 29 at 3:57 am PDT is a Solar Eclipse that is anxiously semisquare unpredictable Uranus. Together these eclipses remind us of the instability of these times as stress levels remain high and resolutions remain elusive. Taking time for grounding and meditation enables us to cultivate an inner peace we will need to stay in this fight for humanity.

The other part of the story is the planetary dance around the beginning of the zodiac at zero degrees of Aries. The Sun enters Aries on March 20 at 2:01 am PDT, marking the Spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and the beginning of the astrological new year. Mercury, and Venus each trip the Pisces-Aries cusp, with Venus and Mercury retrograding back into Pisces on March 27 and March 29, respectively, leaving us wondering if we’ve made any gains throughout the month. However, it’s Neptune’s entry into pioneering Aries on March 30 that sets the stage for what’s coming over the years ahead. Neptune’s visit to each sign lasts about 14 years and its long-term visit to Aries will likely bring clarity to the previous decade’s delusions. The last time Neptune shifted from Pisces into Aries was on April 13, 1861, within one day of the start of the American Civil War. Nevertheless, it’s essential to remember there were other outer planet stresses at that time which do not currently exist, and exerting free will now enables us to change our destiny.

All in all, March is a study in sleight-of-hand magic. Events will point one way and then circumstances later reverse and point another, revealing a different perspective. It’s as if the planets are utilizing the magician’s favorite tool: misdirection. Above all, it is mandatory that we remember The Wizard of Oz and pay careful attention to the proverbial “man behind the curtain.” Although we are advancing into new territory, we have not yet left February’s “Hall of Mirrors.” When uncertain about what is real, think cosmically and act locally.
