Guangzhou in the south of China, is the birthplace of Cantonese cuisine- perhaps the most well known regional cuisine of China. From dim sum to Cantonese barbecue and roast meats, and wonton noodles to congee- Guangzhou has something to suit all tastes. This is a 6 part series of our exploration of Guangzhou’s delicious food scene.

Guangzhou has a lively food scene- there are restaurants and street food EVERYWHERE. It’s an affordable place to eat well and there is something for everyone. In this video we explore the Liwan district- a historical area of Guangzhou where you’ll find many traditional dishes and heritage eateries that have existed for decades. It’s an excellent place to explore if you love to eat!

Half a poached chicken $79CNY/$11USD and 2 x bowls of rice and tea $30CNY/$4USD

Guoqiang Congee Vermicelli Noodle, No. 63-65 Fengyuan Rd, Liwan
Beef hor fun, pork and egg fried vermicelli and braised lettuce $54CNY/$7.50USD all up

NB- the best and easiest way to pay for food is via Alipay or WeChat pay- you can link your international bankcard to the platforms easily. To get around we used Amap as Google maps is quite outdated and isn’t necessarily accurate.
