It's a long water splash Okay, I think I'm good I can see the bottom Oh god, it's deeper than I thought I have to keep going, I have to keep going Look at those rocks down there Oh, there's a motorbike there Oh, I wonder if he stopped because this is so big My journey around the planet begins at North America's most northern drivable point The plan is to ride through Canada and America before crossing over to Europe From there, I'll make my way through the Middle East and Asia After island hopping through Indonesia it'll be Australia and finally New Zealand The end of my journey will be marked by the southernmost point of the South Island I'm calling it the Big Spiral and this is Act 2 to an Alaskan beginning So today is going to be an awesome day Let me show you what I have planned on the map So our current location is in Smithers So just on the edge of the coast mountains here Normally, to get to Terrace you would drive all the way up here and it's all paved and it's, you know, a bit easy and things like that Now, if you go south of Smithers to Tekloa you can basically ride your motorbike all the way across to Terrace Now, it's not a highway In fact, it's not going to be easy at all and I've heard people say eh, maybe it's not a good idea to do this by yourself but I've seen images of the top and it's so gorgeous I just have to try Oh, and there's one other little detail As you're driving through the pass there's a mountain somewhere in here that you can kind of make a T-junction up to I'm not sure if it's south or north but it's there and I may do that as an option Anyhow, I'm really stoked to be back in the mountains This is kind of like where I like to be and I'm kind of excited to challenge myself I think it's going to be right on the edge of my abilities but I won't know unless I don't try So, let's get going Alright, so So, if you're wondering why I'm in a campsite and not a hotel Well, yesterday I moved to the campsite cause, well, I think I prefer camping over the hotel especially because the hotel, ugh I just don't like hotels with weird smells, ya know? Ya know, it's a pretty strong smell But anyways, I stayed at Twin Falls campsite outside of Smithers and quite beautiful waterfall just above the campsite But anyways, first thing first I gotta get some gas Oh, look at this Those are some classic pumps Hey! Ya, I don't know Well, we'll see what happens I watched a bunch of videos about it It seemed like, pretty, fairly full on but not too bad So, ya There's some like, loose sections and stuff So, almost made a mess Sweet Alright Got the, the fuel And uh, we're on our way So, the trail, the road, the pass, it starts from Telqua I guess that's why it's named Telqua So, on the very first night of my trip I met somebody at the hot springs Sloquat Hot Springs And she, she wasn't there on her bike But it turned out she's ridden all over the world on her motorbike It, it actually really felt like serendipity Like, you know, it's just like It felt just like a good sign to meet someone like that But anyways, uh, we were talking a bit about my route And she mentioned Telqua Pass from Smithers to Terrace She's like, ya, it's pretty, pretty sketchy that one And she said, uh, ya, maybe, maybe, I don't know, give that one a skip Well, the thing is, is uh, you know, when people start talking about stuff like that I get curious, you know And, uh, I start looking it up And, uh, watch a few videos and things like that I'm like, oh, I think I can do this It's, it's, and it looks actually like I saw how beautiful it is at the top and all this stuff I'm like, well, I gotta go now I gotta try now I gotta give it a go So, here I am On my way to do Telqua Pass And it's cause of Kaylee Thanks Kaylee for, for telling me about it And telling me not to go Because now, now I want to go So, so I'm pretty excited Heading into the mountains That's, that's kind of my thing is the mountains, you know So, pretty excited Ah, there's a campsite down there too Ya, that's the Telqua River So one of the things I'm a bit concerned about is the heat So, all the snow is melting off really fast right now And I'm worried, there's a couple creek crossings up there And I'm worried the water will be really high But, uh, we'll see when we get there I guess Oh, a sign about the trail Perfect Warning, avalanche and rock slide areas This trail passes through rugged, unstable, hazardous terrain Landslides, avalanches, ice, rockfalls are common And can occur at any place along the trail throughout the year It's recommended that riders always carry avalanche equipment Including beacons, probes, shovels as a precaution 100 meter wide avalanche, July 2015 Wow, that's wild Well, I don't have avalanche equipment And it's been a while since I've used avalanche equipment Anyhow, when you use avalanche equipment It's generally because you're with someone else Alright, well, like, I'm a little nervous I gotta say Um, I hope it all goes well I know it's definitely pushing my limits from what I've seen on the videos So, I don't know But, uh, I hope it doesn't turn into another mud lakes Although I had a lot of fun doing that Even, even if I failed, so Trail Left Alright, this is it, huh? Oh my god, I'm so happy And it was so close to falling in the water Oh, super, super lucky It wasn't easy to get here though And I'm gonna have to walk back And I think I can see the bike on the other shore there I'm a bit worried cause, you know, like I'm sure nothing's gonna happen But you're always worried when you leave your bike out in the middle of nowhere So, so anyways Let's watch all that sick footage I got Well, after that unscheduled hike Um, yeah, actually I burned a fair bit of time Retrieving the drone But it was so worth it It looks like the drone is fine And, uh It's a little bit windy here But I can think of a lot worse places to set up camp So I think I'm just gonna set up camp here And we'll continue the ride tomorrow
