FAA finally Gives Out Starship ORBITAL Flight 8 Approve But not Ship 33 Explosion...
Hey, everyone!
So, the FAA has officially issued the launch license for Flight 8, clearing the way for SpaceX to ramp up preparations for liftoff.
Before this highly anticipated flight, SpaceX will first launch two critical NASA payloads: SPHEREx and PUNCH.
Meanwhile, IM-2 Athena has already begun transmitting its first images, marking a significant milestone in its mission.
Let’s dive into all the details on today’s episode of Great SpaceX.

Flight 8 is right around the corner, everyone.
As always, SpaceX has had to tackle two major challenges on the road to launch. The first is hardware preparation, and the second is securing the FAA’s launch license. Now, with Flight 8 approaching, one of those challenges has been solved—the FAA has officially granted SpaceX permission to proceed.
Specifically, the new license includes a section outlining the issued and effective date as February 26. It also contains modifications, particularly in sections 3 and 4 of item 5.2, which adjust the Definition section of the license. These changes, made on February 26, represent a major step forward for Starship’s future operations.
The first key update appears in section 3, where modifications to section 3b introduce the term "Orbital Flight" as a formal category alongside "Sub-Orbital Flight." The license states:

"Added paragraph 3(b)(ii), ‘Orbital Flight’ ends after deployment of all payloads, upon completion of Space Exploration Technologies, Corp. Starship-Super Heavy’s first steady-state orbit if there is no payload deployment, after vehicle component impact or landing on Earth, after activities necessary to return the vehicle or component to a safe condition on the ground after impact or landing, or after activities necessary to return the site to a safe condition, whichever occurs latest."
In short, "Orbital Flight" ends at the latest of the following: payload deployment, completion of Starship-Super Heavy’s first stable orbit (if no payload is deployed), vehicle landing or impact, securing the vehicle after landing or impact, or making the site safe.
