China's thieves bring much trouble to people and government officials/Smart thieves fight corruption
Although China has always claimed to be one of the safest countries in the world, people who live in China may not agree.
In this video, we will not discuss serious safety issues but just focus on the relatively small problems for Chinese people, namely, thieves in China.
On Zhihu, the Chinese version of Quora, a site to ask questions and get answers, people have asked, "Why are there so many thieves in China?”
One responded, "There are so many thieves in China, especially on buses and in shopping malls. If you get stolen, after reporting the theft, the police don't bother to check the surveillance cameras. They just do a report. It feels like a lot of police are just muddling through, taking taxpayers' money and not doing anything."
Another response reads, "coupled with the current Chinese people's strong sense of self-protection and indifference to others, it’s invariably contributing to this crooked environment."
One reply is: "security is really a problem. Thieves are everywhere, even when one is sleeping in the middle of the night. It's useless to call the police, mainly because they don't do anything about it...thieves are getting bolder. As ordinary citizens, we can't afford to mess with them. We can only be scared and fend for ourselves. "
Due to the inaction of police, thieves in China are flourishing. A unique phenomenon has emerged, that is, thieves taking on the task of anti-corruption against government officials.
They are groups of smart thieves who target corrupt officials of the Chinese Communist Party or CCP. This is because they know that corrupted officials receive their money from unknown sources, even when their homes have been stolen, they are afraid to report for fear of attracting attention in the ongoing anti-corruption campaign.
The most prominent example of anti-corruption by thieves was what happened to the officialdom in Shanxi province in 2014. At that time, seven senior officials at the provincial and ministerial levels were removed from their posts, and dozens of bureaucrats and a large number of wealthy individuals were arrested and investigated.
