In the government work report in early March, the Chinese Communist Party or CCP set its 2022 GDP growth at 5.5%. In recent weeks, Chinese officials have repeatedly reiterated the 5.5 % growth target for China's economy. Why did the CCP set such a high target when the Chinese economy is in a very difficult situation amid the epidemic?
On April 26th, the Wall Street Journal quoted sources as saying that Communist Party leader Xi Jinping asked economic officials to ensure that China's GDP growth exceeds that of the US in 2022 as proof of the "superiority" of the CCP's one-party dictatorship over Western democracies.
